3 Overview WebSphere Adapter for JDBC allows you to create integrated applications that can interact and exchange of information with a database. By using the adapter, an application can send requests to the database, as well as receive events from the database. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 3 of 26

5 Frequently asked questions on JDBC database server and database driver Problem: There is a need to collect all technotes that summarize frequently asked questions specific to the database server or JDBC driver. Cause: Some technotes that describe problems specific to database or JDBC driver are difficult to search for expected technotes. Solution: This technote summarizes frequently asked questions specific to database server or JDBC driver. 6 WebSphere Adapter for JDBC fails to initialize cursor when receiving null BO Problem: When invoking an import from JDBC Adapter, it fails with the following message: Failed to initialize cursor at com.ibm.ws.sca.internal.j2c.j2cmethodbindingimpl.invoke Cause: The business object data sent to the JDBC adapter is null and the adapter could not generate the corresponding business object instances according to the schema definition from business object data. This will cause the JDBC adapter not to initialize cursor Solution: Ensure that the business object sent to the JDBC adapter is not null. uid=swg WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 6 of 26

7 Unable to start more than 20 WebSphere Adapters using WebSphere Process Server Problem: Running a large number(i,e 20 or more) of JDBC JCA adapters with WebSphere Process Server as the runtime, some of the adapters would not start. Cause: WebSphere Application Server threadpool default was set to 20. [11/25/08 17:37:43:718 PST] WorkManagerIm 3 Threadpool maximum pool size: 20 Solution:Change the application server threadpool from default of 20 to a larger number. The threadpool size can be found Admin console->servers -> Application Servers-> server1-> Thread pool->default Enable tracing as follows to see the maximum threadpool setting: "*=info: com.ibm.j2ca.*=all: com.ibm.ejs.j2c.work.workmanagerimpl=all". 8 JDBC Adapter 6.1/6.2 does not poll for events on WPS 6.1/6.2 when High Availability is enabled Problem: WebSphere Adapter for JDBC stops polling for events after deploying to the server Cause: The messaging endpoint is not activated for the Webphere Adapter for JDBC when High Availability is activated Solution: To fix this problem, apply WebSphere Application Server Fix Pack WebSphere Application Server Fix Pack introduces a new JVM custom property called "com.ibm.ejs.j2c.rawrapper.changememberstateonactivating". Set this property to "true" from the administrative console. In a clustered environment, you must set this property on each server in the cluster. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 8 of 26

9 JDBC adapter fails when database object names contain a database reserved keyword Problem: Customer is running WebSphere Adapter for JDBC V and invoked a Stored Procedure on MS SQLServer database and received the following error: microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.sqlserverexception: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'user'. Cause: When column name, table name, stored procedure name and other database object names includes a database "reserved keyword", the JDBC Adapter fails to operate on them. For example, when invoking a stored procedure "dbo.user.save which contains a reserved keyword "user" in MS SQL Server, the JDBC Adapter fails to execute stored procedure. Solution: An ordinary identifier should not be a reserved word. Nonquoted identifiers cannot be Oracle Database reserved words. Quoted identifiers can be reserved words, although this is not recommended. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 9 of 26
