1 Hardware Announcement August 8, 2006 Expanded IBM System i5 Capacity BackUp (CBU) Editions Now more flexible for your system backup needs Overview IBM expands the range of CBU Editions for System i5 servers. The new CBU offerings can now deliver flexibility and savings to a broader set of clients who need a second system to support their varied requirements relating to backup, HA, and DR. This update of the CBU Edition was announced July 11, 2006, with the introduction of new capabilities for the 2/16-way 570 and 4/32-way 595 CBU Editions. New System i CBU Edition offerings include: Additional CBU n-way performance points for the CBU Editions supporting i570 and i595 Enterprise Editions New System i model 550 CBU Edition CBU Editions to support i550, i570, and i595 Standard Edition systems, and i825, i870, and i890 systems Upgrades into and within the CBU Editions The new CBU Editions provide the flexibility of permanent processor activations and the ability to temporarily move optionally purchased i5/os processor entitlements and Enterprise Enablement entitlements from the primary system to the CBU system. Planned availability dates August 25, 2006, except for feature #7119, HSL/RIO 2-Ports Optical December 15, 2006, feature #7119 At a glance Additional CBU Editions for the System i family provide broader flexibility to help mid-market and large enterprise clients meet their requirements for backup, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) with: Additional CBU n-way performance points for the i550, i570, and i595 CBU Standard Editions to pair with i550, i570, and i595 Standard Edition systems, and i825, i870, and i890 systems Many upgrades into and within the CBU editions For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or the Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL Reference: YE001 This announcement is provided for your information only. 2 Description Enhanced System i CBU Editions The enhanced CBU Editions provide greater flexibility in better meeting your requirements for backup, HA, and DR. Four new, n-way performance points (1/4-way 550, 1/4-way 570, 1/8-way 570, and 2/16-way 595) deliver more affordable options for midmarket and enterprise clients with Enterprise Edition systems. Combined with the existing 2/16-way i570 and 4/32-way i595, these six CBU Editions provide a wide range of performance alternatives that can be paired with a corresponding model 550, 570, or 595 Enterprise Edition system or 825, 870, or 890 system. In addition, six new CBU Edition offerings provide great pairing in price and function for i550, i570, i595, i825, i870, or i890 Standard Edition systems. These new CBU Editions are offered without support for Enterprise Enablement features (5250 OLTP capability). All System i CBU Editions offer the flexibility of permanent processor activations to support additional application workloads. They also provide capacity for role-swap operations, where the CBU system maintains application availability when a production system is down for planned or unplanned outages. Similarly, you can permanently acquire Enterprise Enablement features and i5/os processor entitlements for additional processors on the CBU system. CBU Edition systems also enable you to temporarily move your optionally purchased i5/os processor entitlements and Enterprise Enablement entitlements from the primary system to the CBU system when the primary system is down or while the primary system processors are inactive. This move enables a CBU system to support failover and role swapping for a full range of test, DR, and HA scenarios. System registration is required. Optionally purchased i5/os processor entitlements and Enterprise Enablement entitlements refer to entitlements that you choose to add beyond the base definition of the edition. For example, if you have a 1/4-way 550 Enterprise Edition with three i5/os processor entitlements and two Enterprise Enablement entitlements, you can temporarily move up to two i5/os entitlements and one enterprise enablement entitlement. This move is possible because these entitlements are above the base definition of the model 550 Enterprise Edition. Similarly, you may have an i5/os partition on your production ERP i570 4/8-way system with one base and four optionally purchased i5/os processor entitlements and two Enterprise Enablement entitlements. In this example, the i5/os partition uses three dedicated processors and one processor s worth of 5250 OLTP capacity. The partition is taken down for applying maintenance on i5/os. Using HA software to support role swapping, you can move the ERP application to an LPAR on the CBU system, (when permitted by the terms and conditions of the ERP application) on which three additional permanent processor activations support primary system planned outages. In this situation, if the processors on the primary system are not assigned to another partition and are not currently supporting i5/os and OLTP applications, then three i5/os processor entitlements and one Enterprise Enablement entitlement are temporarily moved to the CBU system at no charge until the workload moves back to the primary system. Refer to the terms and conditions on the CBU Editions Web site for more details. With the CBU Edition and CBU Standard Edition, you can activate remaining standby processors using On/Off Capacity on Demand at no charge in case of a disaster that takes down the primary system. The prerequisites to ordering the attractively priced CBU Edition remain as announced in July. Before IBM ships a new CBU Edition system or a CBU Edition processor upgrade, you must register a primary system in the same enterprise at the System i CBU Edition Web site. Before i5/os processor entitlements or Enterprise Enablement entitlements can be moved, you must agree to terms and conditions for this new offering. The primary system must be an equivalent model 550, 570, or 595 that is equal to or larger in size than the CBU system or upgrade being ordered, as measured by CPW. System i5 CBU Editions may also support model 825, 870, or 890 systems of equal or greater capacity, as measured by CPW. If the primary machine or the CBU machine is sold or discontinued from use, then any optional processor entitlements are transferred back to the machine on which they were originally acquired. On/Off Capacity on Demand for temporary standby processors can be purchased as needed; however, high-usage of On/Off Capacity on Demand outside a disaster can be costly. Permanent processor activations should be considered for ongoing requirements. On demand memory features are not activated for no charge during a disaster. Disaster is defined as an event that is recoverable from an off-site location only and that results from the unforeseen loss of a production server s computing ability due solely to forces beyond your control. To qualify as a disaster, such an outage is clearly one that by its nature requires a remote recovery operation. This means that the primary data center is no longer usable and that the outage is not due to a hardware or software failure
3 The CBU edition includes an opportunity for an initial test of the switchover environment. Nine processor days are credited to your account for the 550 and 570 1/4-way systems. Twenty-one processor days are credited to your account for the 570 1/8-way system. Forty-two processor days are credited to your account for the 570 and 595 2/16-way system. Eighty-four processor days are credited to your account for the 595 4/32-way system. These processor days are provided at no additional charge with the On/Off Capacity on Demand function, which can be used for standby processors. Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act IBM System i5 models are capable, when used in accordance with IBM s associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. Product positioning The enhanced CBU Editions provide a flexible set of options for permanent and temporary processor activations and temporary moves of optionally purchased i5/os processor entitlements and Enterprise Enablement entitlements (5250 OLTP capability). Plus CBU Editions with no 5250 OTLP capability are now offered to support 550, 570, or 595 Standard Edition systems, and model 825, 870, and 890 primary systems. The CBU Edition now becomes the primary offering for midmarket and enterprise clients who need a second system for disaster recovery or high availability. The granularity and flexibility of the enhanced CBU Edition deliver more options for tailoring a system to the complete range of your business needs today and into the future. For this reason, it will be a better fit for most client environments than the 550, 570, or 595 HA Edition. The HA Edition remains a good option for the 520 Enterprise Editions because the smallest CBU Edition is a model 550. The /64-way HA Edition is not matched by a corresponding 64-way-based CBU Edition. The 2.2GHz 570 and 1.9GHz 595 CBU Editions installed before the July 2006 CBU enhancements were announced can take advantage of the new enhanced CBU Edition flexibility and continue to use the same feature numbers. Registration is required before ordering additional permanent processor activations and doing temporary moves. A primary 570 or 595 must be declared while registering, and revised terms and conditions apply

Security, auditability, and control System i5 uses the security and auditability features of IBM i5/os. Use of these facilities is optional. The security measures supplied by i5/os are designed to reduce the risk of users changing or destroying data resources, but do not prevent it. The i5/os security features include the use of passwords, a security option to limit a user to only functions provided by customer-designed menus, and a security option to limit read/write access for files, libraries, and folders during normal operations. To achieve increased security, the i5/os controls should be combined with physical security, division of duties, and other appropriate measures. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities. IBM Electronic Services IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available on the IBM eserver platform. These services provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent. Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eserver system. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, customer-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems.
