1 Lab: Relational Universe Create Predefined Filters Scenario You will add and configure predefined filters in the Business Layer to make them available in the Business Layer outline to be re-used in the query panel. Some pre-defined filters will include prompts and they require user to enter values to filter on at run time in the query Objectives In this lab, you will: Create a new native pre-defined filter Create a new business pre-defined filter Define a prompt in the filter Define a business filter that combines many conditions with AND Consume the predefined filters in Information Design Tool Duration 10 minutes Prerequisites You must complete the following prerequisite(s) before performing these steps: Create a Relational Business Layer SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 1

2 Perform the following steps as described in order: Create a new Native predefined filter 1. In the Local Projects view, expand My Relational Resources and double-click My Manual Business Layer.blx to open it. 2. In the Business Layer pane, right-click the business layer and click New > Folder to create a new folder where you will host the pre-defined filters you create. 3. In the Name text box, type Filters. 4. Right click the Filters folder and click New > Filter. You will create a simple filter that filters on a particular year and a particular product category. 5. In the Name text box, type Year&Category. 6. Under Filter Type, choose the Native option. Native filters are filters that are based on SQL expressions defined in the Where property of the filter. They are similar to predefined conditions of Universe Designer in previous releases. The SQL can contain any SQL supported by underneath database and like 7. Click SQL assistant to open the SQL editor. Although it is easy to manually enter the simple condition, it is useful to use the assistant at least to pick the right names of objects, and also to select correct values from columns and list of values of objects since data is available in the SQL editor. 8. In the Business Layer pane, expand Time and double-click the Year object or drag and drop it in the expression field. 9. In the Functions pane, expand Operators and double-click the = operator or drag and drop it in the expression field. 10. In the Business Layer pane, click for the Year object. 11. In the Member(s) list, select SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 2

3 12. Click OK. The expression should be as = 2007 SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 3

Construct the remainder of the expression to add a condition on Product category using Like operator to limit the results to categories where the name starts with Bikes LIKE 'Bikes%' Note that the Validate button will not work in this case because there are many contexts are possible in the Data Foundation and the context selection prompt is not available yet in the SQL editor. You will check the filter in the query. 14. Click OK. 15. In the toolbar, click Save. 16. In the Business Layer pane, click Queries. 17. Click Insert Query ( ). 18. Add the Customer, Product, and Net Sales objects to the Result Objects pane. 19. Add the Year&Category filter to the Query Filters pane. SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 4

6 21. Click View script to view the generated SQL. 22. Click OK to close the script. 23. Click OK to close the query. Create a new Business predefined filter 1. Click Business Layer to return to the Business Layer panel. 2. Right click the Filters folder and click New > Filter. You will create a simple filter that filters on a particular year and a particular product category. 3. In the Name text box, type Year&Product. SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 6

7 4. Under Filter Type, choose the Business option. Business filters are based on structured conditions based on objects from the current Business Layer. Unlike Native filters, Business Filters do not reference tables and columns of the Data Foundation. They only can be built using the filter editor (not the SQL editor). Business filters are similar to Query filters that are managed in the Query Panel. 5. Click Edit filter to open the filter editor. This editor is similar and shares the same functionality as the Query Panel editor for filters. 6. In the Universe pane, expand Time and double-click the Year object or drag and drop it in the Filter Objects panel. 7. In the list of operators, select Equal to. 8. 8 9. Select the Set default values check box. 10. Click OK. 11. In the Universe pane, expand Product and double-click the Product object or drag and drop it in the Filter Objects panel. The new condition is added, combined with the previous condition by an AND operator. 12. In the list of operators, select Equal to. 13. 9 15. Click OK. 16. In the toolbar, click Save. 17. In the Business Layer pane, click Queries. 18. Click Insert Query ( ). 19. Add the Customer, Product, Year, and Quantity objects to the Result Objects pane. 20. Add the Year&Product filter to the Query Filters pane. 21. Click Refresh. 12 25. Click View script to view the generated SQL. Notice that the second prompt actually did not insert a filter on Product name (column Productname referenced in the definition of dimension Product), it inserted instead a filter on Product Id (column ProductID). This substitution was done because the dimension Product has a Key defined based on Product ID.
