Powerful Layers Manga Studio features unlimited layer support, offering an incredible level of precision and flexibility. Work on different layers, change the layer order and name each of your layers for added organization. In traditional paper comic illustration, after inking a page the pencils drawings must be erased. Using Manga Studio a new layer can be created for the inking process, leaving pencils or rough sketches intact for future reference. The opacity and display color can be set individually for each layer, making it very easy to distinguish between a rough layout, a pencil layer, and an ink layer for example. By setting a sketch layer to be more transparent it is easy to draw over the layer. Individual layers can also be hidden completely with the click of a button on the Layers palette. The Layers menu allows you to choose from four different color models for your drawings: Black (1 bit), Black and White (2 bits), Grayscale (8 bits) and Color (32 bits). You can also choose an alternate color such as blue for your pencil sketches, to quickly identify your sketches later in the drawing process, when you are inking and coloring your drawings. Manga Studio also makes it easy to print only the final inked layers by allowing the artist to choose whether a layer is a Sketch (a layer not intended to be part of the final product) or a Finish (a layer that will be printed). Group layers together to keep your manga organized and to save computing resources.
7 ( Page Resolution Page resolution can be set between 72 to 1200 dpi, giving the artist flexibility to choose a high resolution for sending to a printer or a lower resolution for publishing as a web comic. Adjust the Page Resolution according to the level of detail you need. Individual layers can be set to different resolutions for even greater control. Complete Set of Drawing Tools Manga Studio 4 provides a rich array of drawing tools, including pens, pencils, brushes and selection tools. Pencil - Choose from several preset pencil tips or customize your own. Choose from the following default pens or customize and save your own: The G Pen has a smooth, flowing feel with a range of thin and thick lines possible. It is often used for bold, sweeping lines. The Maru Pen (or Round Pen) is used for drawing fine lines. The Kabura Pen (or Turnip Pen) is used to draw very even, uniform lines The School Pen also makes very even lines but is thinner than the Kabura Pen. The Brush Pen allows you to draw strokes like a calligraphy pen. The Gray Use Pen is very thick and is used for shading and similar effects. Eraser - Not only for fixing mistakes, the Eraser tool can be used to scratch off tones and erase shading and other effects as well. Like the Pen and other drawing tools, you can choose between several preset thicknesses for the Eraser or specify your own. Using the eraser point on a drawing stylus automatically switches to the Eraser tool, allowing the artist to make quick fixes just like a real pencil without having to select a different tool. Magic Marker - This is the tool to use when a thick, dark line is needed. Airbrush - Perfect for adding subtle textures to characters or objects, the Airbrush spray size, dot size and density are fully adjustable for total control over the effect. Pattern Brush - Paint custom patterns to create unique tones, hatched patterns and fills. Choose from 80+ customizable pattern brushes. 8 ) number of unique effects. In Manga Studio EX, any drawing can be selected and then saved as a Pattern Brush, allowing the artist to paint with that drawing. Shape Tools - To supplement your freehand drawing, Manga Studio includes a complete set of tools for creating simple shapes, such as circles, curves, lines and polylines. Choose from color correction tools such as the dodge tool and burn tool in EX. Quickly fill a selection using the bucket tool. Rulers Rulers in Manga Studio are used like templates. Set the drawing tool to snap to rulers to trace over part (or all) of the ruler. Rulers can also be rasterized into normal drawing layers, meaning that the artist can create tracings with one click for use as a sketch layer. Use any of the Shape tools to create custom rulers for fast, professional results. Manga Studio EX comes with a library of pre-made rulers, including three French curves to help draw almost any curve. Manga Studio EX provides one-point, two-point, and three-point Perspective Rulers for assisting artists in drawing scenes from a variety of angles. Manga Studio EX also includes Focus Line Rulers and Parallel Line Rulers for hasslefree Focus Lines and Speed Lines: lines drawn by hand automatically snap to form a radial pattern (Focus Lines) or in parallel (Speed Lines). The Symmetry Ruler repeats exactly what you re drawing on one side of the axis on the other side.
9 * Concentric Line Ruler allows users to create circles and ellipses quickly and easily. Panel Rulers Manga Studio 4 provides a Panel Ruler tool to make it easy to create panels, the frames in manga and comics that guide the reader through the story from beginning to end. Use the Panel Ruler layer to easily add and customize panels for your pages that remain editable, saving you the hassle of having to redraw artwork if a panel is not quite right the first time Rasterize all the Panel Rulers and create individual Panel Layers for each panel with a single click. Panel Layers help the artist focus on one panel at a time. Lettering & Word Balloons Lettering is the process of adding dialogue to a comic. Manga Studio 4 makes adding dialog to your characters easy. Any operating system fonts can be used for lettering in Manga Studio. Create your own word balloons or choose from over one hundred word balloon styles for any kind of mood or expression Quickly add pre-designed word balloons to your page with a simple drag and drop. The style, direction and angle of each tail can be easily adjusted. Freely adjust the font, size, style and spacing of the text. Manga Studio has built-in Unicode Support and allows you to enter text directly on your page using a standard text tool. You can also quickly add special characters such as Katakana and Hiragana. Enter and edit the text for your entire story using the Story Editor in Manga Studio EX. Vector Layers & Tools Manga Studio EX allows the artist to work with vector layers, opening up many possibilities for working with images. In contrast to raster (bitmap) images, vector
10 "+ images hold information about their shape, meaning that the drawing can be manipulated as a whole object rather than simply a collection of pixels. Using vector layers allows you to: Adjust the width of previously-drawn lines to a specified thickness with the Width Correction tool. Parts of lines can be made thicker, made thinner, or the entire line can be set to a specific width. The Width Correction tool makes it incredibly easy to lighten or darken lines without redrawing them. Move lines that have already been drawn using the Line Level tool. The artist can pick up and move one end of a line, move the entire line, or adjust the middle of the line while leaving both ends anchored in place. Use the Line Level tool to adjust the position or shape of a curve, the direction of a strand of hair or the angle of a mouth with precise control without having to redraw the lines until they are perfect. The Line Smoother tool corrects for wobbly or shaky lines, a feature that is invaluable for fixing slight imperfections and creating professional looking manga and comics. The Line Smoother tool can also be used to connect two lines together whose start and end points are close to one another, resulting in a more fluid drawing. Finally, because vector layers are resolution-independent, the artist can scale vector images up without any loss in quality. Use Manga Studio EX s Raster to Vector Conversion feature to create vector images out of your regular bitmap Drawings. The view the centerline feature for vectors make spotting trouble areas in need of smoothing a breeze. 2D & 3D Line and Tone Rendering Manga Studio EX allows the artist to import 2D images and graphics and convert them to either lines and tones, grayscale, or keep them in their original form. This is perfect for adding background to panels without having to recreate every nuance of a scene. Manga Studio EX includes a large collection of images for use with the 2D Line and Tone (2DLT) rendering feature for background images or props. Manga Studio EX also works with 3D OBJ files exported from Poser and 3D modeling programs. The native LightWave format (LWO, LWS) is also supported. Th amazing power to the application allowing it to integrate with these and many other 3D tools. There are also hundreds of different 3D models included with Manga Studio EX for use with the 3D Line and Tone rendering feature. The 3DLT feature helps artists create realistic backgrounds and human figures by importing 3D data.
