4 Sign in and membership Autodesk Pixlr The how s and why s of signing in When you download Autodesk Pixlr from the Windows Store, you get the tools you need to do basic photo editing and familiarize yourself with the power of Autodesk Pixlr. When you sign in and sign up for a free Pixlr account, you can download effects, overlays, borders, and stickers. You get expanded flexibility and power to create amazing images. How do I sign in? Click sign in along the bottom of your screen. In the sign in window, either use a social provider, such as Facebook, or your Autodesk ID or associated and password to log in. Once logged in, sign in changes to your user name. Click it to access account settings, help, and to sign out. Why should I log in? Setting up an account makes you an Essentials member. Logging in gives you access to all the Essentials tools and options. I don t have a log in If you don t have an Autodesk ID, just click New User? Sign Up to get one. Either sign up through a social provider, such as Facebook, or enter your and create a password. Press Create Account and you are all set. 4

5 Autodesk Pixlr The Basics Loading an image To load an image and get started, swipe down from the top of the tablet. In the menu bar that appears, tap open and select a file. Once you have loaded an image, you can check out the UI and get started. Here s a run-down of the tools at your disposal. Along the left, you ll see tools for adjusting and enhancing your image. Along the bottom are zoom, metadata, undo or redo, share, and sign in. 5

6 What file formats do you support? You can load just about any image format, such as JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and PSD. If layered files are brought in, they are opened as flattened images. When it comes to saving your image, you have these options: BMP, JPEG, PNG, and TIFF. Autodesk Pixlr NOTE You can only open JPEG and PNG files when using double exp. What is the maximum image size? The 32-bit version currently has a maximum image size of 8000 x The 64-bit version has no limit. Saving an image To save your image, swipe down from the top of the tablet. In the menu bar that appears, tap save as and navigate to where you want it save it. 6

7 Adjustment Tools Autodesk Pixlr Use the tools to make changes to your image. For long lists of tiles, scroll or use shuffle to access the rest. Tap-drag a tile up or down to scroll through the list. To move the grid into position, tap-drag within the grid. To resize the grid, tap-drag the corners. crop 7

8 Autodesk Pixlr straighten Is one of your images not quite straight? Is the horizon on an angle and you want to correct that? Use straighten. To control the angle of rotation, change the angle slider. To rotate the image in 90 degree increments, tap. To flip the image, use either or. When finished, tap. autofix Take any image, whether the color is slightly off, it s too dark, what have you, and use autofix to improve it. heal Remove spots, lighten shaded areas, and reduce shine. To darken of an area, select brush, then size and set the brush size, tap shine, then tap wherever there is excess shine. To lighten a dark area, select shade and tap wherever it is too dark. To make spot corrections, select spot and tap the area to remove the blemish. TIP Try using these options in combination. When finished, tap. 8

9 Autodesk Pixlr red-eye Remove red-eye from any image. Tap, then the eye. focal Play with focal blur to focus on a specific part of your image. 9

10 Autodesk Pixlr Tap-drag over the color your want. To change the amount of color you see, move the tolerance slider to the right for more color or left for less. splash Select splash to isolate a color or range of colors in your image and change the rest of the image to black and white. To add color to areas, tap and brush over them. To remove color from an area, tap and brush over the area. Tap to apply the effect or to cancel it. 10

11 Autodesk Pixlr color Change the hue, saturation, lightness, or vibrance of an image. contrast Fix issues with shadows by lightening these areas and pulling out hidden details. For images that are too light, it darkens them to pull out more detail. 11

12 Autodesk Pixlr blur Make an image appear softer or out of focus. smooth If your image is pixelated, you can soften it to give it a smoother and more unified look. Tap, then adjust the amount. sharpen Make blurry or fuzzy images crisper. Tap, then adjust the amount and radius. 12

13 Double exposure Double exp, found in the refine tool set, is a custom overlay effects tool. It enables you to import an outside image, position it over the original image, resize it, and finally apply a blend mode to it. Autodesk Pixlr Tap double exp and select an image. Resize and reposition the image. To resize the image, tap-drag the corners. To reposition the image drag the handle. Now, it looks like these people are checking out Niagara Falls from the window of the helicopter. To make the image look like part of the original image, change the opacity of the image or play around with the blend modes. 13

14 Overlays, stickers, and so much more Pixlr offers a number of things that can be added to your image, such as effects, overlays, borders, stickers, and type. Autodesk Pixlr Effects Apply effects to create vintage black and white or sepia toned images, make subtle changes to colors, and/or instantly create new layouts. NOTE Only the default effect pack is available upon download. Sign in to get many more free packs. Overlays Apply an image or effect over top of your image. Choose from bokeh, chemical burns, flames, and many more to alter the feel of your image. NOTE Only the default effect pack is available upon download. Sign in to get many more free packs. 14

15 Borders Add a border from a variety of categories to frame your image. Some are very subtle, others are not. Stylize Transform your image to look like a pencil drawing, silk screen, poster, lithograph, and much more. Autodesk Pixlr NOTE Only the default effect pack is available upon download. 17 Type Use type to add text to your image. Pick from a variety of typefaces, scale and reposition the text, and even change the color. Autodesk Pixlr 17

18 Sharing my image creating something really cool, you may want to share it. Any app used for sharing will be available, such as , Facebook, and Twitter. Pick your method. At the bottom right of your screen, click share and make a selection for the options that appear.
