If you have questions about Stock licensing, etc. contact Annemarie Béliard. Note: Licensing images from Adobe Stock is not reversible. Once licensed you can not (yet) unlicense the image. Preview images downloaded to Libraries can be deleted / reused. Deleting licensed images from your library does not remove the license. A new image will need to be licensed each time you complete the license demo. Check your image licenses when signed into the Stock site: For the above reasons, only preview (watermarked) Stock images are distributed with demo content. In some rare cases where image composition is required (Photoshop mostly), licensed images are provided.* * Distribution / posting for download of licensed Stock images is prohibited (only for Adobe internal use). For more information, contact the Stock team. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 3

4 Start Experience This release features a new startup experience that displays a panel of recently opened files, Creative Cloud Libraries, presets for creating new files, and a host of links to resources such as learning tutorials, Adobe Stock, and library downloads. Note: The Start Experience is new and evolving rapidly. What is shown here is current as of the release of this document (mid-november, 2015). Things will change before the next product release as this Start Experience can be updated without updating the app itself. The content below provides a high-level overview of the current functionality. Watch for updates and adjust your presentations and demos accordingly. The new Start Experience replaces the old Welcome screen. The Start screen gives you quick access to Adobe Stock, available Creative Cloud Libraries, and training resources. Select a recent file to open it, or select a preset to create a new document. 1. Restart InDesign CC and the Start Experience will open automatically. Note that the app launches with the application bar on by default. 2. After first launch, the Start screen is displayed at startup and after the last file is closed. Point out the features of the Start screen including: Resource cards (called the Engagement Stream) at the bottom of the Start screen provide links to Stock, available libraries, and training resources. 6 Enhancements to Creative Cloud Libraries Creative Cloud Libraries, powered by Adobe CreativeSync, lets you access, organize, and share your creative assets, including colors, character styles, images, graphics and more, whenever and wherever you need them, and it connects your mobile and desktop apps. You can share individual assets or entire libraries, and link assets so that you can update them across multiple documents at once. You can use the new search feature to search Adobe Stock, or to search for other assets in your libraries. Searching for assets in your Creative Cloud libraries is easy. Just choose whether to search the current library or all libraries, and then type your search criteria. Results appear in the CC Libraries panel. Now you can search Adobe Stock without exiting InDesign. You ll see the same search results in the CC Libraries panel that you see on the Adobe Stock website. Download a preview, license an image, or go to the web to learn more about it. Search Libraries: 1. In InDesign CC, Start Experience, under Recent Files, open the file FiveDaysFromNowhere_Static.indd. 2. In the CC Libraries panel, choose the Five Days from Nowhere library. 3. Choose Current Library from the search bar menu in the CC Libraries panel. 4. Type Mountain in the search bar to see all the assets with Mountain in their names. Search Stock: 5. Choose Adobe Stock from the menu at the far right of the search bar in the CC Libraries panel. 6. Type Nepal in the search bar. 7. Show the search results in the CC Libraries panel. 8. Right-click one of the search results in the CC Libraries panel, and point out the options. 9. Hover over an image, and click the Cloud icon to download a watermarked version or the shopping cart to license the image. Alert: Be cautious about licensing Stock images during your demo. Licensing images from Adobe Stock is not reversible. You will be charged / need credits for licensing. Also, Adobe prohibits distributing licensed Stock images or posting them for download. See Setup Instructions on page 3 for more information. Search the current library or all your Creative Cloud Libraries for specific assets. Search Adobe Stock, and browse the results right in your CC Libraries panel. You can even download and license assets directly. Search using qualifier words to limit the search, such as: Nepal image or Nepal vector, or Nepal video. This will find assets of the type you specify. Adobe Stock is now providing video content (available within products that can consume video formats). Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 6

7 Enhancements to Creative Cloud Libraries (continued) Moving assets into and out of Libraries is more efficient now. You can add all the styles in a paragraph style group or character style group to a library with a single click. Paragraph Style Groups in Libraries: 10. Choose Window > Styles > Paragraph Styles to open the Paragraph Styles panel, if it s not already open. 11. Select the Five Days style group. 12. Select Add Selected Style To My Current CC Library button at the bottom of the panel to add the entire style group to the library. 13. Point out the paragraph styles in the CC Libraries panel. Note: The paragraph styles are added to a library individually, not in a group. 14. Show that paragraph and character styles can be applied to text directly from the Library. It s just as easy to add all the swatches in a group to your library. In the other direction, you can now add all the swatches from a color theme to your Swatches panel. Swatch Color Groups in Libraries: 15. Choose Window > Color > Swatches to open the Swatches panel. 16. Select the FIveDaysFromNowhere Colors group of swatches, and click the Add Selected Swatch To My Current CC Library button at the bottom of the panel. 17. Point out the swatches in the CC Libraries panel. 18. Right-click the FiveDaysFromNowhere Colors color theme in the CC Libraries panel, and choose Add Theme To Swatches. 19. Point out the swatches that were added to the Swatches panel. Note: Swatches are added individually to the Swatches panel or the CC Library; they are not grouped in their new location. 20. Show that color swatches can be used directly from the Library. Select the paragraph style group, and then click the Add Selected Style to My Current CC Library button at the bottom left side of the panel. Select the swatch group, and then click the Add Selected Swatch To My Current CC Library button. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 7

8 Enhancements to Creative Cloud Libraries (continued) You can now edit images and graphics that are in your CC Library, no matter which Adobe app created them. Similar to Edit Original, simply double-click (or right-click and choose Edit) any image or vector illustration, and Photoshop* or Illustrator will launch and that asset opens for editing. Make your changes, then Save and the asset is updated in your CC Library. The asset will be updated anywhere you used it in any InDesign file, just like any linked asset. Edit Original from Libraries: 21. Open the Five Days From Nowhere library. 22. Double-click or right-click the Mountain3 vector illustration and choose Edit. 23. Illustrator will automatically launch and open the file. 24. In Illustrator, change the color of the sun to yellow and save the file. 25. Return to InDesign and point out the updated asset in the CC Libraries panel. *Alert: As of the posting of this content, Photoshop is not participating in the Library > Edit functionality. They will, supposedly, be doing so in the near future. For now Illustrator and InDesign are working using Edit from the Library menu. The CC Libraries Edit option now understands which application created the asset, making editing easy and quick. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 8

11 Touch workspace If you have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (or higher) or any touch-enabled tablet running Windows 8 (or later), you can use intuitive gestures to draw layouts in InDesign. The new Touch workspace lets you use the same gestures that Comp CC recognizes, and you can also access many familiar InDesign tools in a new way. When you want the full InDesign feature set, simply switch to the Standard workspace. Touch screens offer a more natural and intuitive way to manipulate elements of a layout. When you open InDesign on a touch-enabled device, such as a Surface Pro, InDesign prompts you to switch to the Touch workspace. The Touch workspace features a tool that isn t otherwise available in InDesign the Drawing tool. With it, you can use intuitive gestures to create a layout, just as you can in Adobe Comp CC. 1. Open InDesign CC on a touch-enabled tablet, such as a Microsoft Surface Pro. Have the keyboard attached. 2. When the app opens on a touch-enabled device, it will automatically switch to the Touch workspace. Removing the keyboard will also switch to the Touch workspace. You may also tap the Switch to Touch Workspace in the upper right corner of InDesign or choose Touch from the Workspace menu. 3. Open the FIveDaysFromNowhere_Static.indd file and go to the slideshow on page View the page, then create a new blank page after it by tapping the Create new page icon at the bottom of the Touch UI. You ll use this blank page to show the Touch workspace and touch-enabled tools. 5. Point out the simplified tools around the edge of workspace. 6. On the new blank page, select the Drawing tool in the left Tool panel. 7. Draw out the shapes of the objects that are needed for the slideshow page: Draw perfect squares or circles and note how the shape snaps into the perfect dimension while sizing the shape. On the lower left side of the page, draw a large rectangle with an X in the middle. Point out that the outline color changes when InDesign recognizes the near-complete shape. The roughly drawn shape is converted to a rectangular image frame, which is gray by default. (If you want a rectangle, not a frame, don t draw the X. The simple rectangle will be black by default.) Show the context menu options at the top of the rectangle : Cut, Copy, Paste, Arrange, and more (Lock). Context options are also available in the panel on the right. Laying out a page like this is easy and intuitive using the new Touch workspace. Use natural shape drawing gestures (similar to Comp) to sketch out where you want picture frames or text boxes. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 11

12 Touch workspace (continued) Once you ve drawn a shape, you can resize text or place a graphic in the frame. 8. In the upper left corner, draw a line with a dot at the end. InDesign converts it to a line of placeholder text. This will be the header text. 9. Drag the slider on the right side of the text frame to change the text size to 24 pt. 10. Double-tap on the lorum ipsum text and type Preparing for the climb. Notice that you have been switched into the Type tool. If you need to move or resize the frame, switch back to the Draw or Selection tool. 11. Select the header text, and change the font and size using the Type panel on the right. Use Source Sans font. = Drawing a simple line with a dot at the end creates a text frame filled with placeholder text. Type in your text and select a font, etc type styling using the Text panel. The Touch workspace is simplified, but it contains many of the features of the standard workspace. For example, you can align text frames or other objects using the Align panel. 12. Below the header, draw a small rectangle with three horizontal lines in the rectangle. This creates a text frame and fills it with lorum ipsum placeholder text. You could also simply draw three horizontal lines with a dot at the end and then adjust the shape of the text frame. 13. Copy and paste the text frame so there are four columns of text across the top of the page. 14. Tap the Select tool and drag to select the heading, left frame of text, and the large rectangle that you drew first. Use the Align panel to align to the left. 15. Select all four text frames and select Distribute to vertical centers in the Align panel so the frames are evenly spaced and then select Align to Top. You may also tap and drag the frames to see alignment and spacing smart guides. Laying out the structure of a page is fast and easy using touch tools and drawing gestures. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 12

13 Touch workspace (continued) And you can place an image to fill a frame. I can even round the corners just by tapping. If I m not happy with a change, there s a Redo button handy. Of course, you can also use the same pinching gestures you re used to using on all your other touch devices. When you want to access the full InDesign feature set, just tap the Workspace dropdown at the top of the window to exit the Touch workspace. You can return to it at any time with a simple click. 16. Double-tap the large image frame you drew first (or choose File > Place, or open the CC Libraries panel to bring in a photo). Place the Blessing jpg image. 17. Using the Selection tool, tap the picture and show the small yellow button near the upper right corner. Tap to change to rounded corners. 18. Point out the Undo and Redo buttons on the left. 19. Draw six squares to the right of the large rectangle (for thumbnail pictures, plus a frame of text for captions under that. 20. Pinch the screen with two fingers to zoom out, and then spread the fingers to zoom in. 21. Continue designing the page using the Touch workspace or tap the Touch workspace menu at the top of the window to return to the standard InDesign UI. 22. Finish designing the page. Do not save it. Place photos and continue laying out the page using the Touch workspace or switch back to standard InDesign. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 13

It s now easier than ever to find the right character alternates when you re using Opentype fonts. If you need an accented character, or a true fraction, just select the text and click the option you want to apply. You can choose from any alternate glyphs available in the selected font. Choose Window > Type & Tables > Glyphs. 10. In the Glyphs panel, choose Entire Font from the Show menu. Select a character to see all the available OpenType alternates, and then apply the one you want. Adobe InDesign CC (November 2015 Release) Feature Guide 14

15 OpenType enhancements (continued) Just type part of the name for example, copyright or tilde to find what you re looking for.
