2 I'd like to revisit this question for the new Lightworks v14 just released. I notice in the Tech Specs under Third Party Support the following: Available in 64bit only: - Boris FX - Boris Graffiti Available in 32bit only: - Adobe After Effects Plugins - Premiere Plugins - GenArts Sapphire I am new to video editing and want to start out with the better long-term product. I guess there is an implied question of how important could these third party plugins be? Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. 3 The benefit of the plugins and interfaces listed above depends on your needs. You can switch between 32 and 64 version on Windows as you like it, even install both versions simultaniously (into different folders). As far as I know there are several limitations using the 32-bit plugins listed above. Boris FX and Boris Graffiti work only with the Pro version of Lightworks and can be purchased in differnt bundles. You can actually download and install both in separate program directories on a 64 bit computer OS if you like, but long term 64 bit is the better choice unless you only have a 32 bit computer. If you decide to buy a pro license at some point the annual and outright purchase options come bundled with the Boris apps for free in 64 bit. Your choice of one with annual license or both included in the full purchase license. The 32 bit plugin support is pretty limited, not all plugins work. However in the 64-bit version you can roundtrip to Fusion for heavy duty effects work. That gives you access to the whole world of modern effects plug-ins. 4 The 64 bit computers can run both 32bit programs and 64 bit programs. 32 bit computers cannot run 64 bit programs, because the bit sizes are fundamentally different. Latest Laptops with pre-installed Windows are usually x64 i.e. 64 Bit, old Desktops and Laptops could be having Windows x86 which means 32 bit. When 64 bit processors compatible with the x86 architecture were introduced, they were referred to as x x86-32 (and x86-16) were used for the 32 (and 16) bit versions. This was eventually shortened to x64 for 64 bit and x86 alone refers to a 32 bit processor. The 32 bit processors are designed to handle a limited amount of physical memory maximum of 4GB but 64 bit can handle high memory utilizing 8,16 and some even32 GB.
