Once you are happy with the quote, we can then dispatch containers either to your office or directly to site. We can arrange next-day delivery if we receive your request before 12:30 pm. Once we have received and logged your samples, our scheduling team will a sample receipt confirmation for your approval. Testing will then start. Test results can be accessed online (please contact your client manager to arrange access) and will be ed to you once they are complete.

4 Container requirements TEST CONTAINER DETAILS Water Dissolved metals 100-ml plastic bottle with HNO 3 preservative (with a yellow top) Only use this if you are filtering into the bottle using a 0.45-µm filter. Please note that Cr 6 + analysis is only done on unpreserved samples. DOC, COD, phenols, ammonia species 100-ml plastic bottle with H 2 SO 4 preservative (with a red top) If you require one or all of these tests, please provide only one bottle per sampling location. Cyanides and sulphides 100-ml plastic bottle with NaOH preservative (with a blue top) If you require one or all of these tests, please provide only one bottle per sampling location. Iron II and manganese II 100-ml plastic bottle with HCL preservative (with a black top) Only use this if you are filtering into the bottle using a 0.45-µm filter. If you require one or all of these tests, please provide only one bottle per sampling location. VOC, VPH, BTEX, dissolved gases (not dissolved oxygen) 40-ml vial If you require one or all of these tests, please provide one vial per sampling location if you are also filling a 1000-ml glass bottle. If you are not filling a 1000-ml glass bottle, please provide two vials per location. If you require dissolved methane, please provide an additional vial per location. Any other inorganic analysis 500-ml plastic bottle To be used for any inorganic testing not already mentioned, for example, TSS, TDS, ph and alkalinity. Please note that one 500-ml plastic bottle will generally cover most inorganic testing. Any other organic analysis (TPH, PAH, EPH, PCB, SVOC, oil and grease, pesticides and herbicides) Soil 1000-ml glass bottle (TPHCWG requires one of these and a 40-ml vial) To be used for any organic testing not already mentioned. This includes PAH, the EPH part of a speciated (CWG) TPH, PCBs, total and banded TPH, SVOC and pesticides. Please note that we will require one full 1000-ml glass bottle for two tests, so if, for example, you require TPH, PAH and PCB, you need to provide two full 1000-ml bottles. We always recommend that we receive an additional 1-L glass bottle per sampling location. All soil suites (even if they include WAC and asbestos) 825-ml tub, 258-ml glass jar and 60-ml glass jar Organic leachability testing (TPH, PAH, PCB and/or SVOC) 825-ml tub Please provide an additional 825-ml tub if significant additional leachability testing is required. 5 Sample holding times Holding times start as soon as the sample is taken. If you take your sample on a Monday, your sample will be one day old on Tuesday. Please note that samples collected on a Friday will not be processed until the following Monday, i.e., when they are three days old. 8 Sample collection and transportation COOL-BOX PACKING GUIDE Bubble wrap all glassware Fill in any voids with bubble wrap, cardboard or other suitable items available on-site Add frozen icepacks (where possible) Secure the lid with packing tape Tape a return label onto the top of the box Keep bottles upright ARRANGING A COLLECTION Same-day collections or next-day deliveries of sampling media are available if you let us know by 12:30 pm. To arrange a collection or a delivery, we simply need the following information: 1. The full address including the postcode of the pick-up or delivery address 2. The name and telephone number of the site contact 3. The number of cool boxes to be collected 4. What time the samples will be available. REQUIRED PAPERWORK Ideally, your samples should arrive with a completed analysis request form (ARF). If an ARF is not available, please include your company name and the name and contact details of the project manager. Please forward the ARF by later.

10 Real-time results ONLINE WITH LIMS VIEW REAL-TIME RESULTS USING ENVIROLAB S WEB-BASED OWL TOOL Log onto Envirolab s website ( click on the OWL icon at the top and enter your login details. You can then view real-time results as soon as they become available, any time day or night, and access previously reported projects. If you are unsure of your account details or require a new account, please contact your client manager on +44 (0) or ask@envlab.co.uk. Deviating samples A deviating sample is one that may have been compromised in some way during sampling, transportation and storage. WHAT DOES ENVIROLAB DO TO PREVENT DEVIATIONS? We provide you with the correct containers and sampling advice. We prioritise samples through the laboratory in holding time order when critical. We can arrange same-day couriers on request. HOW CAN YOU HELP PREVENT DEVIATIONS? Pack samples well to prevent breakages. Provide the correct containers for the testing you need. Completely fill sample containers; pack soil down if necessary. Complete the ARF fully. Do not delay submitting your samples and ensure that they include clear instructions. Our sample receipt confirmation includes the following disclaimer for when deviations are identified: It is possible that test results may be compromised where a deviation code is indicated. Please contact the laboratory and advise whether testing is to continue; affected analysis is on hold in the meantime. If we are not contacted within 24 hours, analysis will commence and there will be a pro-rata charge should you advise us to terminate testing after this time. If analysis is completed, results and samples will be marked as deviating on your report. If any deviations are reported, all accreditations will still be valid.
