1 INSTRUCTIONS TO ENTER DATA FROM THE SOIL HEALTH SURVEYS ON-LINE 1. Find the Data Portal on the internet 2. Create an account ( verification, password setup) 3. Data entry and save 4. Data viewing

2 1. Find the Data Portal on the internet Access the MODIRT website at modirt.missouriepscor.org and click on the Data Portal tab on the top menu or directly type modirt.missouriepscor.org/soilhealthsurveys in your browser (e.g. Google, Firefox, etc.). 2

3 2. Create an account Click here to create your account 3

4 An verification is required to create an account. Make sure that the name or the address entered, is from a person that attended a training. After you click "Create new account", you will receive an e- mail with instructions on how to log in and set a password. 4

6 3. Data entry The Data Portal has three sections: - Data Entry - Last Data Collected - Past Data Collected In the Data Entry section are four types of forms. The forms differ based on the information collected and the frequency of the sampling of the soil variables over a year period. The data for Group Information and Site Description are collected once unless updates are necessary. Soil variables are collected once, monthly, or twice a year. Have your paper forms at hand and go first to the Group Information form. 6

7 Enter the Group Information from your form in the respective fields. It is very important to enter the Date of the Survey since is the field that connects all the data from the different forms of a particular survey. Check that the format of the Date of Survey is correct. Save. You can update this information monthly. 7

9 To continue entering data, go to the Site Description form. Follow the same steps as in Group Information. 9

10 Site Description Form Fill the fields with the respective information from your field form (paper form) for site description. 10

11 Fields with three asterisks (***) can be updated in the following surveys. The other fields are locked after saving the form. If you need to change one of the locked fields contact us at: 11

13 You can view the information of the site description after saving. Click the link at the bottom of the page to go back to the Data Portal home. 13

14 Go to the Monthly Data Collection page. 14

15 Enter the Date of Survey again. Make sure it matches the date in your form. Fill the fields with the respective information from your field form (paper form) for the monthly variables. Save. Click on the link at the bottom to return to the Data Portal home page. 15

16 You can view the monthly data entered after saving. Click the link at the bottom of the page to go back to the Data Portal home. 16

17 Go to the Twice a Year Data Collection page during the months of May and August. 17

18 Enter the Date of Survey again. Make sure it matches the date in your form. Fill the fields with the respective information in your field form (paper form) for the Twice a Year variables. Save. Click on the link at the bottom to return to the Data Portal home page. 18

19 You can view the twice a year data entered after saving. Click the link at the bottom of the page to go back to the Data Portal home. 19

20 4. Data viewing After you entered the data of your first survey, you will have a view of Last Data Collected. Click in any of the links to view data for each of the forms. 20

21 Go to Past Data Collected to search data from your surveys. Search by month and year and or by form type. Click in the list below for the form you want to view. 21

22 The view of your data using the Past Data Collected looks like your form. Click Data Portal in the Menu above to go back to the Data Portal page. 22

23 In the Data Portal menu you can: - Click on Overview to go to the main page of the data portal. - Click on Data Entry to go to the data entry page if you are logged in or to the Login page. - Click on Manuals to download the manual of the soil health surveys and or the manual to enter data in the portal. - Click on Training Sessions to find out about future and past training sessions on how to conduct soil health surveys. - Click on Demographics to see how many survey sites, participants, and institutions are involved in the soil health surveys. Also see a map including locations and habitats being monitored. 23

24 THINGS TO CONSIDER: - At the end of a calendar year (December 31), the fields of variables taken once a year are reset. This will allow annual updates of the soil core variables in the Site Description form, and the bulk density variables in the Monthly form. - You will not loose your data and you will be able to search and view it using the search engine. - Downloading and sharing of data among participants will be possible this summer of NEW! The mobile version for the Data Portal is now available.
