3 National Junior Ranking The 2012 National Junior Ranking system is managed by and will start with the Winter Matchplay Series 2011 (it is a 2012 tournament) and run for 52 weeks. Registration All players must have a Personal Identification Number (TI PIN) to be able to enter any Open ranking tournament. New players coming into the system must register with to get their TI PIN to be eligible for ranking points. If a valid TIN PIN is not included with an entry form, ranking points will not be allocated. Ranking Points All junior players entering Irish Junior Open Tournaments will be awarded ranking points depending on the round they reach and the category of the Tournament. Players MUST WIN AT LEAST ONE MATCH before they receive any points (progressing into the second round or further by virtue of a walkover or a bye does not grant any ranking points). Players will be ranked on THEIR BEST SIX tournaments. Tournament Categories Before the beginning of the season, all tournaments have been graded according to the Minimum Requirements Table (see appendix A), taking into account previous year s results. Fitzwilliam Junior Open and the National Indoors will be awarded the highest Category called Championship. All other Irish Junior Open tournaments will be awarded Categories 1 to 4. In all tournaments, each event must be graded individually (i.e. U12 event could be a Category 2 while U18 event could be a Category 4) One tournament in Munster (Sunday s Well) and Ulster (Belfast Boat Club) will be Category 1 (Events for U12 and U14), and one Connacht tournament (Galway) Category 2 in Leinster is likely to have a few Category 1 Events. It is important that Championships, Category 1 & 2 events have 8 seeds (draws should be 24 Girls 18 may be an exemption). Page 2

4 Upgrading The Category allocated to each event guarantees that players entering the event will get that Category s ranking points. After the draw has finished, events that comply with the minimum requirements of a higher Category will be automatically UPGRADED and the players will be granted the points of the higher Category. A tournament CANNOT be DOWNGRADED in the year it has been given a certain Category. Match-plays National Match-plays will be Category 1. Provincial and Regional Match-plays will be graded according to the strength of the event, but can t be higher than Category 2 for Provincial MP or Category 3 for qualifying MP. Qualifying, Provincial and National MP are considered as one item with points awarded only ONCE (highest points achieved within the series) at the end of each series. International Tournaments Points received in International Tournaments are converted to Irish Ranking points using a given conversion rate that reflects the strength of the event. Points will be awarded to players that didn t reach the second round in a main draw if they won one or more matches in the Qualifying round. Points given will reflect the Category of the International Tournament. Page 3

5 As it is difficult to follow every junior playing abroad the onus will be on the player to the Ranking Organiser giving the details of the event they played in and a link to the draw webpage. You will have received a letter, or text from your club advising you of your Personal Identification Number (TI PIN) and the access code required to access the National Player Database (NPD). Each account (profile) on the NPD will need a unique account for communications and control purposes (different content may be sent to junior players of differing ages). It is accepted that it is probably more appropriate for a parent/guardian to manage this account in the current Internet environment and to this end, we have included instructions of how to set up new accounts and forward the content to a parent account. The information held on your NPD account profile is managed in a secure manner and in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. Please see the Privacy Policy at the end of this document for further information. Page 4

6 Registering a new account with Gmail Enter in the address bar of your Internet browser or click on the link. Select Create an account. Complete the details and ensure that you put an alternate address (work or partner) in the Recovery field. Record the user name and password in a safe place. Page 5

7 Forwarding mail to another account automatically Gmail lets you automatically forward incoming mail to another address. Here's how to forward messages automatically: Click the gear icon at the top of any Gmail page and choose Mail settings. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. From the first drop-down menu in the "Forwarding" section, select 'Add new address.' Enter the address to which you'd like your messages forwarded. For your security, we'll send a verification to that address. Open your forwarding account, and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team. Click the verification link in that . Back in your Gmail account, select the 'Forward a copy of incoming mail to...' option and select your forwarding address from the drop-down menu. Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep Gmail's copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to All Mail or Trash. Click Save Changes. You also can set up filters to forward messages that meet specific criteria. You can create 20 filters that forward to other addresses. You can maximize your filtered forwarding by combining filters that send to the same address. How to stop auto-forwarding If you no longer want to auto-forward your mail, follow these instructions: Click the gear icon at the top of any Gmail page and choose Mail settings. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, or if you use Google Apps, you might have a Forwarding tab instead. In the "Forwarding" section, select the Disable forwarding radio button. Click the first drop-down menu in the "Forwarding" section and check for any forwards created by filtering. Page 6

8 You can forward s to multiple accounts. The parent/guardian account doesn t have to be a Gmail account using the example above. Use this procedure if you wish to set up a number of addresses in the names of junior players. Record the user names and passwords safely and use the addresses to create individual accounts on the. s sent through the NPD service, to the junior players, will be automatically forwarded to the account of the parent(s)/guardian(s). Gmail has been used as an example but any service may be used. Page 7

9 Registering a new account with Eircom This account will not be used for sending s but to receive s from and forwarding them to your primary account. Enter in the address bar of your Internet browser or click on the link. Select Sign Up in the left hand menu and select Additional at the bottom of the panel. Follow the instructions by entering your own Eircom account details Page 8

10 Select an address and password for the new account. It may take a couple of attempts to obtain an unused account name but adding 01 to the end of the name e.g. sarahjane01 usually works. Make sure you record the login credentials (user name/password) safely possibly by sending yourself an from the new account. Forwarding mail to another account automatically Once the new account(s) are set up, change the settings so that an received by the new account is automatically transferred (forwarded to) to your main account. 11 Click on Help in the new account and follow the instructions in the following panel. The new address is now set up and ready for use. This is the address that needs to be used for activating the player profile on the. Page 10

12 Account activation Enter in the address bar of your Internet browser or click on the link. Each junior player must have a unique address before proceeding. Please see previous section. Click Account not activated yet? and enter the TI Number (TI PIN) and Registration number provided in your documentation. Click Validate, enter your address and then click Activate. Page 11

13 The final panel confirms that your account has been located and a verification is being sent to the address supplied. Check your account and locate the account activation . Open it and click the link as requested. This action confirms that your account is available and the registration details are correct. Page 12

14 User Name Password Security question Answer You may enter your real name or a nickname Enter a password and confirm. The password may be changed at any time through your on-line account. Enter a question such as Mother s Maiden Name or Favourite Colour Enter the answer to your question. This information may be used by support personnel to identify you before making changes to your account. Click Validate to accept the information and transfer it to your account. Page 13

15 The following panel appears to confirm that the registration process is complete. Click the Logon link to continue. Enter the Username created during your registration process along with your password. At any stage, you can click on the Forgotten Password link at the bottom of the page. You will be asked for your address and a new password will be forwarded to you. Page 14

A QR code looks like this: A QR Code (it stands for "Quick Response") is a smart phone or ipad (tablet) readable bar code that can store website URL's, plain text, phone numbers, addresses and pretty much any other alphanumeric data. Storing up to 4296 characters they are internationally standardised under ISO 18004, so a QR code is a QR code all over the world - they've been big in Japan forever, broke into Europe and the UK a few years back, and are now getting real traction in USA. Think "print-based hypertext links" and you'll get the idea. Install the free app Qrafter to scan QR Codes if you have an iphone or ipad and use the free i-nigma bar-code reader for Android phones or tablets. To use the app, target the QR code using the phone camera and the associated web page will open automatically. will use more QR codes on its publications to allow smart-phone and tablet users faster access to relevant web pages.
