3 Adapt to your community Take a look at your community. How is your community connected to the organization and to each other? Internet? Phone? Church? Sports? Key businesses? Use technology to target those pathways. Use multiple avenues and change it up.
4 Adapt to your volunteers Look at how your volunteers work, play and connect. Build a tech platform that supports them as a whole and makes doing the business of PTA as effortless and productive as possible.

8 If you aren t already doing it, We RECOMMEND that you STOP using personal addresses for PTA communication. Create addresses for each of your board positions. This is vital for keeping communication flowing through board transitions. 11 Yes please! I ll have some social media with my non-profit. 97% of non-profits maintain a social media presence. 1 For our discussion, we are focusing on how to use more mainstream social media services like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
12 How should you use social media?
13 Don t blog. Talk. The strength of social media comes from the buy-in of real relationships, the open and non-authoritative voice and the immediacy of its content.
14 Use it to remind. Post reminders about your events and advocacy efforts. Do this, not only well before these occur, but also an hour or two before them as well. These little reminders will increase your turn outs.
15 Use it to connect. Share images and video to connect people to those events and other people. Facebook Live is an awesome tool. However, don t forget to get permission from anyone that will be live!!! We are all hesitant to invest time into people and events for which we aren t familiar. Help us get familiar from the safety and anonymity of the Web by giving us insight into who you are and what you are doing.
16 Be a cheerleader! Post follow ups details that reiterate the reasons why we do what we do. Give those who participated or helped some thanks and kudos.
17 Use it like a boss. Well maybe not exactly like a boss. Be professional, but also be friendly. Keep your posts short and sweet. Up to once a day is fine when an event isn t going on. Ignore the drama, but don t be afraid to edit/remove comments.

23 Putting It All Together MANAGING YOUR TECH
24 The Domain Name A domain name is a human-friendly address on the web, e.g. happyfacepta.org. Get a domain name that makes sense for your org. Domain names cost about $10 per year. Domain name hosting is not the same as Web site hosting. PCCPTA uses GoDaddy.
25 Managing Your Domain Name Register your domain name using a personal address*. Register for just one year. At the end of each PTA year, remember to renew your domain name lease and update its contact information if it is changing hands. Very important!
26 Getting Your Set Up Choose an (and possibly website) host.* Sign up with the personal account** you used for registering the domain name. Create accounts for each position on your board using a standard default password that your users should change the first time they log in to their account. Don t forget to create an admin@ or techadmin@ account for your domain as well.
27 Choosing a Web Host A Website Host allows you to put your content on their computers for all the world to see. Choose a host that provides simple, easy-to-use content management. Hosting can be free to expensive. Go with free to very cheap.

29 Keep your contact list secure! Don t share it with any partners or vendors or well intentioned grandparents. Practice discretion even within your member-base.
