Use the information in this section to ensure that your problem is resolved efficiently and successfully. If you are not a designated support contact at your company, contact your IBM Unica administrator for information. Information you should gather Before you contact IBM Unica technical support, you should gather the following information: A brief description of the nature of your issue. Detailed error messages you see when the issue occurs. Detailed steps to reproduce the issue. Related log files, session files, configuration files, and data files. Information about your product and system environment, which you can obtain as described in "System Information" below. System information When you call IBM Unica technical support, you might be asked to provide information about your environment. If your problem does not prevent you from logging in, much of this information is available on the About page, which provides information about your installed IBM Unica applications. You can access the About page by selecting Help > About. If the About page is not accessible, you can obtain the version number of any IBM Unica application by viewing the version.txt file located under each application s installation directory. N60002 New features and changes in emessage Because emessage is a hosted service, IBM delivers many new features between scheduled software releases. For a summary of emessage changes introduced since the previous software release, see Changes to emessage since the previous release. However, some new emessage features require changes to components that operate in your local environment. Making changes of this nature requires that you install new IBM Unica Marketing software. In these cases, IBM provides new emessage features in conjunction with a scheduled software release. The following sections describe emessage features and changes that are being made available in this release. You must install or upgrade to the new software to use them. 6 IBM Unica emessage - Release Notes

7 New features and changes in emessage emessage is included in every new IBM Unica Campaign installation In-place upgrade of emessage 8.x installations when you upgrade to Campaign New method to connect to hosted services through an implicit FTP connection Integration with the IBM Unica Marketing scheduler for enhanced scheduling Support available for more languages, including GB18030 compliance NB0002 emessage is included in every new IBM Unica Campaign installation Starting with IBM Unica Campaign 8.5.0, locally installed emessage components and tables are automatically installed during the Campaign installation process. This means that every instance of Campaign is now hosted ready. You do not have to install emessage software, system tables, or the emessage report pack separately. For more information about installing emessage with Campaign, see the IBM Unica Campaign Installation Guide. To start using emessage features integrated into Campaign to send personalized marketing , you must subscribe to emessage as a service. When you request a subscription, IBM begins an interactive consultation process designed to help you connect to hosted emessage resources maintained by IBM, begin using emessage in your online marketing campaigns, and establish your reputation as an marketer with leading ISPs around the world. IBM has created a new team of Account Services consultants to provide close support during the initial startup process, and continuing support for your online marketing efforts afterwards. For more information about enabling and configuring emessage after you have purchased a subscription, see the IBM Unica emessage Startup and Administrator's Guide. NC0002 In-place upgrade of emessage 8.x installations when you upgrade to Campaign If you are currently using IBM Unica emessage 8.x, you can upgrade to the latest emessage software by upgrading your IBM Unica Campaign installation to Campaign The IBM Unica Marketing installer automatically upgrades your emessage installation when you upgrade Campaign. During the upgrade, the installer moves the existing emessage file directory and recreates it as a sub-directory to the Campaign directory within the IBM Unica Marketing installation. If you are currently using Unica Affinium emessage 7.x, an in-place upgrade is not available. If the installer detects an Affinium emessage 7.x, it stops the upgrade immediately. Contact IBM Unica Product Technical Support for information about how to move from Affinium emessage 7.x to hosted using IBM Unica emessage Version

8 1 - IBM Unica emessage ND0002 NE0002 NF0002 For more information about how to upgrade your current emessage installation by upgrading Campaign, see the IBM Unica Campaign Installation Guide. New method to connect to hosted services through an implicit FTP connection Installing or upgrading to IBM Unica Campaign modifies the emessage Recipient List Uploader (RLU). These modifications enable the RLU to upload recipient data using implicit FTP, also known as FTPS. Servers in IBM Unica Hosted Services listen for these upload requests on Port 990. Using implicit FTP is optional. To enable it, you must update the emessage configuration maintained in IBM Unica Marketing Platform. For more information about how to enable implicit FTP upload, see the IBM Unica emessage Startup and Administrator's Guide. Integration with the IBM Unica Marketing scheduler for enhanced scheduling emessage uses the IBM Unica scheduler to now offer two ways to schedule a mailing. Schedule a mailing to run immediately after a scheduled run of a flowchart in IBM Unica Campaign. Select this option to use up-to-date recipient data in your messages. When you schedule a mailing to run immediately after running the flowchart used to create the recipient list, your messages reflect the most current recipient data available. Schedule a run of the mailing only. Because this option does not depend on a flowchart run, this option increases your scheduling flexibility. These scheduling options have been available previously to emessage users that have installed IBM Unica emessage patch Now, these scheduled mailing options are available in all emessage installations that upgrade to IBM Unica Campaign Support available for more languages, including GB18030 compliance With release 8.5.0, IBM Unica Marketing products support the following languages. To be in a position to apply the latest developments to your online marketing campaigns, it is especially important to stay current with changes for emessage. IBM provides several channels to get the latest information. N Hosted documentation and online help Documentation for IBM Unica Marketing, including emessage, resides on a remote server hosted by IBM Unica. When you click a help link in Marketing Platform, Campaign, or the emessage Document Composer, you access help content on a hosted documentation server over the Internet. The hosted documentation includes more than the online help. The help links also provide access to additional product information and implementation guidance in PDF format. Because the documentation is hosted, IBM continually updates and adds to the content. You do not need to wait for a software release to access new or updated documentation. Hosted documentation always provides the most up-to-date content. N Customer Central IBM Unica Customer Central is a community-driven website designed to facilitate collaboration and communication among customers, partners, and employee experts. Due to it's highly collaborative structure, it gives you an easy, dependable way to tap into a world-wide community of marketers and enterprise-level marketing management resources. Customer Central maintains various notification pages for service and product updates. You can subscribe to any of these pages so that Customer Central automatically informs you in advance of pending service intervals and new product features. To get started, go to customers.unica.com. The first time you visit Customer Central, you complete an automated process to create your personal login credentials. After establishing your login, enter the site and explore an assortment of resources, including product blogs, instructional videos, customer forums, and product documentation. N What's New for IBM Unica emessage IBM provides What's New for IBM Unica emessage to describe new features and enhancements to emessage, listed according to the date that they were introduced. Revised documentation to reflect changes in IBM Unica emessage Integrating emessage more closely with Campaign represents a substantial change in how to install and use emessage. Further, the creation of the Account Services team represents a substantial change in the way that IBM supports emessage users. The emessage documentation has been updated to reflect these new ways of working with emessage. The following table lists the emessage documents that have changed. 11 Changes to emessage since the previous software release About Release Notes In future releases, the IBM Unica emessage Release Notes will be included in the IBM Unica Campaign Release Notes. Starting with version 8.5.0, standard emessage reports are included in the reports pack for IBM Unica Campaign. See the IBM Unica Campaign Reports Package Release Notes for release information related to emessage reports. N70002 Changes to emessage since the previous software release Since the release of Unica emessage 8.2.0, IBM has introduced significant enhancements to emessage, as described below. For more information on these major changes, and on other, smaller changes and defect fixes, see What s New for IBM Unica emessage on Customer Central. Advanced scripting is available for sophisticated personalization emessage advanced scripting for is a template-based scripting language that you can use to create new ways to enhance and personalize HTML and text-only . With advanced scripts, you can create data tables to create personalized lists in and create multiple levels of nested conditional content for precisely targeted personalization. You add the script directly to the HTML code of an template. When you execute a mailing that uses the modified template, the script output displays seamlessly in the body of the . Support added for personalization fields in the Bcc field emessage now allows you to add personalization fields in the Bcc field of the header to provide expanded flexibility when addressing marketing . Deliverability reports are now available for scheduled mailings Previously, deliverability reports were available only for standard mailings. Now, you can also select a deliverability list when you schedule a mailing. Version

12 1 - IBM Unica emessage N80002 Link and image URLs now display your marketing domain When recipients hover over links and images in your , they see a URL that contains your marketing domain name instead of seeing a generic URL pointing to IBM Unica Hosted Services. This is sometimes referred to as a branded URL. Improved mailing tab does not display the Test Send Unique Permutations link unless this option is enabled You cannot use the Test Send Unique Permutations link to test a mailing's unique conditional content permutations unless IBM has configured a default test distribution for your account. Fixed defects The Fixed Defects section lists defects fixed in version 8.5.0, sorted by defect number then by incident number (if applicable). Except where noted, these defect fixes were introduced since the release of emessage and do not require that you install new software. For a description of other defects that have been corrected since the release of emessage 8.2.0, see entries in What's New for IBM Unica emessage that are associated with an incident number. Defect Description INC56603 INC58818 emessage generated an error and prevented progress if the logged in user was not configured with a first name or last name. Occasional failure to connect to the system tables because the RLU was using the wrong JNDI data source. INC60427 When an emessage process is cut and pasted in a Campaign flowchart, the previous OLT still exists instead of being deleted. INC62322 The emessage RCT required a restart if the local database failed or was restarted. INC64977 Incorrect encoding caused misleading error messages in the Campaign web log. emessage-627 Repairing a corrupted contacts file required restarting the RCT. 12 IBM Unica emessage - Release Notes

13 Known issues Defect Description emessage-634 emessage did not track and distinguish individual responses to personalized, conditional links in messages even when logpersonalizedcontactattributes was configured correctly. emessage-1160 When scheduling a mailing, emessage did not use the correct time if Marketing Platform was installed in a different time zone. emessage-1314 emessage did not correctly recognize and process international characters (such as GB18030 characters) in names assigned by users to objects such as personalization fields and campaign names. If you are using emessage with IBM Unica Marketing products deployed on IBM WebSphere Application Server v7.0, you must confirm that you have applied a required fixpack to address a security issue. 14 1 - IBM Unica emessage Issue Issue ID Description Using single locale emessage-1037 In Oracle databases configured for UTF-8 character scripts to create emes- sets, the database can use up to 3 bytes per character. sage tables in a UTF-8 Single locale scripts limit the column width to 1024 Oracle database can characters.
