1 University of Southern California Marshall Information Services Qwickly - Blackboard Pushing Content to Multiple Sections Simultaneously Qwickly allows instructors and teaching assistants to post files, announcements, links, assignments, calendar events, and send to multiple section simultaneously. If you are teaching multiple sections of the same course you should find Qwickly an enormous timesaver as you will no longer have to post the same content in each section one-by-one. Log into Blackboard ( using your username and USC password. 2. If necessary, click the Home tab. 3. Click Qwickly (Faculty & TAs). 2 Qwickly Overview An overview of the tools is below. Note that you will only be able to access active courses via Qwickly. Set availability (Yes/No) of multiple sections simultaneously. Post an announcement to multiple sections simultaneously. students, instructors or TAs in multiple sections simultaneously. just instructors of the courses you select simultaneously. selected groups of multiple sections simultaneously. Post a file to multiple sections simultaneously. Post a link to multiple sections simultaneously. Create a Blackboard assignment in multiple sections simultaneously. Create a calendar event in multiple sections simultaneously. Jump to a section containing an assignment that need grading. Course Organization: Advantages and Limitations of Qwickly The most obvious advantage of using Qwickly is being able to post content or send an to multiple sections at once. Depending on how you organize your classes, it could eliminate the need to merge sections. Postings Go Under Left Menu Choices Qwickly can post files, links and assignments directly under a section s left menu choice. Further, if a left menu item does not exist, Qwickly will create it in the section for you. Other Limitations Qwickly is primarily a method of pushing content out. Qwickly cannot edit content. Qwickly cannot delete content. Limitation: Qwickly Cannot Post to Folders Unfortunately, Qwickly cannot post files, links and assignments to folders you have created within a content area in a section. 3 By default, when courses are created in Blackboard for the new semester, students cannot access them until the instructor makes the course available. Qwickly allows you to make multiple courses available (or unavailable) simultaneously. Setting Course Availability 2. Click the Course Availability arrow to see your courses (it may take a few seconds to load them). 3. Click your course s On/Off button to make the course available or unavailable. Posting an Announcement in Multiple Sections Simultaneously 2. Click Post Announcement. sections you wish to post the announcement in. 4. Compose your announcement then click Submit. 4 ing Multiple Sections Simultaneously This option allows you to send an to all students, instructors, or TAs (or combinations thereof) in multiple sections simultaneously. Unlike Announcements, you can also attach a file to the . Further, it will not place a copy of the sent in your sent items folder but it will send the to you as long as you leave Send this to Myself checked. 2. Instructors & Send Group These options also allow you to multiple sections. Instructors allows you to all of the instructors of the sections you select. Send Group allows you to specific student groups of the sections you select. See the instructions above for using these options. 5 Post Content (Files or Text) This feature allows you to post a file or just text to a content area across multiple sections. Whatever you post will be within one of your left menu items in Blackboard. Note that if the content area does not exist, Blackboard will create it for you on the left menu. Note that Qwickly cannot post to folders you have created within a content area. 2. Click Post Content. sections you wish to post content to. 4. Type a name for the content item and any descriptive text in the larger box below. Note that in this example we have linked to a web address using the link button. 5. To attach a file, click the computer button. (Note that you can only attach one file per posting. A workaround for this limitation is to attach a zip file that contains multiple files.) 5. Use these controls to specify which left menu area the posting will display. You can post to an existing area or create a new one: Post to Existing Area - Use the drop down to select an existing area to post to. Create a New Area - Select Create New Content Area and the type the name of the area to be created in the box on the right. 6. Click Submit. Note that if you check Post to different locations per course, you can post it to different existing locations in each of your sections. 6 Posting a Link to Multiple Sections Simultaneously This feature allows you to post a web link across multiple sections. Your link will be in the left content area you select. Note that if the content area does not exist, Blackboard will create it for you on the left menu. Note that Qwickly cannot create content within folders you have created within a content area. 2. Click Post Link. sections you wish to post the link to. 4. Type a name for the content item. 5. Type or paste the URL here. 6. Type any additional information here. 7. Use these controls to specify which left menu area the link will display within. You can post to an existing area or create a new one: Post to Existing Area - Use the drop down to select an existing area to post to. Create a New Area - Select Create New Content Area and the type the name of the area to be created in the box on the right. 8. Click Submit. Note that if you check Post to different locations per course, you can post it to different existing locations in each of your sections. 7 This feature allows you to create Blackboard Assignments across multiple sections simultaneously. An assignment creates an icon in Blackboard that allows students to upload files. It also creates a corresponding column in the Blackboard Grade Center where instructors can go in to view, download, and grade the assignment. Note this creates Blackboard assignments not Turnitin assignments. 2. Click Create Assignment. sections you wish to create the assignment in. Create Blackboard Assignments 4. Type a name for the assignment. 5. Type the points possible. (Type 0 if you won t be grading it.) 6. Select No for Can Submit from Cloud. 7. If it has a due date, type it. 8. Type desired instructions. 9. If desired, attach a file. 11. Click Submit. 10. Use these controls to specify which left menu area the assignment will display within. You can post to an existing area or create a new one: Post to Existing Area - Use the drop down to select an existing area to post to. 8 Create Calendar Event This feature allows you to post a calendar item across multiple sections simultaneously. (The Blackboard calendar is found Tools Calendar.) 2. Clicking an item jumps you to the Blackboard Grade Center for the item you click. 1. Launch Qwickly as shown on page Click the triangle to list the items that need grading.
