1 NJVID: New Jersey Digital Video Repository NJVID, (New Jersey Digital Video Repository) is a service for video streaming and publishing of videos for higher education institutions. NJVID provides a common online platform for presenting, accessing, and hosting MSU's licensed and locally produced videos that educate and enlighten viewers in support of hybrid and online teaching and learning. NJVID at MSU accommodates two types of video collections: Academic/Administrative Collections and Commercial Video Collections (the Sprague Library Collection). I) Request an Account II) Login to NJVID III) Upload/Manage Media IV) Permissions and Sharing Media V) Media Formats Supported on NJVID Request an Account: In order to post and streamline your videos, you will need an account to access NJVID. To request an account, please contact Pam Fallivene at fallivenep@mail.montclair.edu or Patrick Scioscia at sciosciap@mail.montclair.edu for a 1-on-1 training session. Log into NJVID: 1) Go to 2) Click Login 3) Input your MSU NetID and password 4) Click Login

2 Upload/Manage Media (Audio/Video): 1) Click on the drop down menu next to your address 2) Click Admin dashboard 3) Click Add Video or Add Audio The first time you upload media you will be prompted to complete and submit a Copyright Agreement Form. 4) Input a title for the media in the Title box 5) Click Select and select the collection where the media will reside (this will be set up upon account creation) 6) Click Select a file 7) Locate the media file 8) Click Open 9) Click Submit once prompted that the media file was uploaded successfully 2

3 EDIT OBJECT After the media finishes uploading you will be brought to the Edit Object page. Here you can edit any information related to the file. Details: Click Edit Metadata. Here you can add or change content related to the description and rights of a media file, get the URL, etc. Publishing Options: Collections: Change the Collection where the media resides. Share: You can change the permissions to share the media with your target audience. (This is discussed under Permissions and Sharing Media). Expiry date: Set an expiration date for the media (by default the available timeframe is unlimited. Please note that the media will be removed from NJVID if you set an expiration date and the date is reached). Additional owners: Give others full permission to the media and its settings. Download: By default, download of media is not allowed by viewers. Click Change to allow viewers to download. Search/Discovery: List media in public searches and listings. Embed Code: Click Generate to get the embed code of the media to use on a webpage, etc. Media datastreams: Here you can download the media file by clicking download for the preferred Bitrate. Resources: Supplementary Documents - documents in PDF format can be associated with a media file as an attachment to provide additional information related to the content of the file. 1) Click Add next to Supplementary Documents 2) Click Upload 3) Locate and select the PDF file 4) Click Open 5) Click Save Closed Captions: Please refer to our documentation NJVID: Creating and Editing Closed Captions 3

4 Statistics: You can view the usage statistics of your media in graphical view. 1) Click on the graph icon/button 2) A graphical representation of the views will open 3) Under Video Statistics you can view statistics by All, This week, This month, This year or click on Custom range to specify a custom date range Delete Media You can delete media under your account when the media is no longer needed. Whenever it is possible, removing media from the system will free up system storage space. 1) From the Dashboard, click Media 2) Click the check box next to the media title you wish to delete 3) Click Actions and select Delete Permissions and Sharing Media Setting Permissions All media uploaded to NJVID is private by default. This means that only the owner and system administrator can view and access it. There are multiple ways of sharing your media but you first have to set the permissions in order for your target audience to view it. 4

5 Setting Permissions for the Entire MSU Community 1) Click the check box next to the media title you wish to share 2) Click Actions and select Share (To share just one media file, simply click on Share to the right of the media title) 3) Everyone at my Institution 4) Click Save The selected media can now be viewed by anyone with a valid MSU NetID. Setting Permissions for Specific Users within the MSU Community If you want to share the media with yours students in your Canvas course, please refer to our documentation NJVID and Canvas: Sharing and Uploading Media. 1) Follow steps 1 and 2 above and select Share with Users 2) Input the target audience s MSU address with a comma between each with no space. Note: NJVID only accepts MSU addresses. The address must be in a format without the word mail NetID@montclair.edu. For example: fallivenep@montclair.edu 3) Click Save 5

6 Setting Permissions for Specific Users within the MSU Community via Groups You also can create a group to include a list of target audience s MSU addresses and share the selected media with everyone in the group. 1) From the Dashboard, click Groups 2) Click +Create Group 3) Enter a name for the group 4) Select User based for the group type 5) Input the list of your target audience s MSU address. Note: NJVID only accepts MSU addresses. The addresses must be in a format without the word mail NetID@montclair.edu. Each line contains one address without any space at the beginning or the end of the . For example: lis@montclair.edu fallivenep@montclair.edu 6) Click Submit 7) Click on Media in the Dashboard 8) Click the check box for the media you wish to share 9) Click Actions and select Share 10) Select Share with Users 11) Input the name of group under Share with Groups 12) Click Save 6

7 Sharing Media After permissions have been set you can share your media with your target audience via the URL, embed into a website, via NJVID or within your Canvas course. Sharing Media via the URL: 1) From the Dashboard, click Media 2) Click on the media title 3) Scroll to the middle of the page to find and copy the URL within Details Post the URL in your s, web pages or social networking sites to provide your target audience with access. Embedding Media into a Website: 1) From the Dashboard, click Media 2) Click on the media title 3) Scroll to the middle of the page and click the URL within Details 4) Click Embed 5) Click on the drop-down menu to select the media frame size 6) Check if you want the media aligned in the center of your web page 7) Check if you want to start playing the media automatically when the web page is open 8) Click Generate Code 9) Copy the code 10) Paste the code into your HTML web page within the body tag 11) Save and republish the web page 7

8 Sharing Media via NJVID: Your target audience can access your media directly through the NJVID website. 1) Go to There are sub-collections under Montclair State University Collections. It is easier to look for media through the sub-collections if you know where the media is located. 2) Browse and locate the media you would like to view 3) Click on the media title or thumbnail to view the video In addition to browsing and locating the video, you also can use the Search function to find the video you are seeking. Sharing Media via Canvas: If you want to share your media with yours students within a Canvas course, please refer to our documentation NJVid and Canvas: Sharing and Uploading Media. When sharing your media via the above options your target audience will receive the following message which will require them to login with their MSU NetID in order to view the media. This does not apply to Canvas. When embedding your media into your Canvas course there are no permissions to set in NJVID. The students will have automatic access to the media within Canvas. Video Formats Supported on NJVID Videos in different formats identified below can be uploaded and automatically converted to MPEG-4. MPEG4 Video (MP4, M4V) Audio Video Interleave File (AVI) Quicktime (MOV) Windows Media Video (WMV) For a more extensive listing of supported media file formats, please check out the NJVID Support page at 8
