1 Student Instructions for TurnItIn.com You will be required to create an account with TurnItIn.com. You will most likely use this account for many or all of your classes this year. However, you only need to create ONE account. Once you have created an account, you will add different classes with different Class ID s and Enrollment Passwords. Create an Account with TurnItIn.com 1. Go to on your computer. 2. At the top right-hand corner of the screen, click on Create Account. Once you have created an account for the first time, you will click Log In to get back in to your account. 3. You will open a page called Create a User Profile. Scan towards the bottom of the screen until you see the subheading Create A New Account. Click on Student.
2 4. This will take you to a page titled Create a New Student Account. Fill out the boxes with the information required. a. CLASS ID THIS INFORMATION IS CLASS SPECIFIC. Your teacher will provide you with this information. b. CLASS ENROLLMENT PASSWORD THIS INFORMATION IS CLASS SPECIFIC. Your teacher will also provide you with this information. Period Class ID Enrollment Password c. Your First Name enter your first name d. Your Last Name enter your last name e. Display Name As select the 2 nd option that says Last name (Space) First name (example Smith John). f. Address enter your address. Use an address that you will remember since this is how you will log-in to your account from here on out. g. Password enter a password that you will remember. Passwords are case sensitive, so be careful with capitalization. Your password must be 6-12 characters long and contain at least one letter and one number. h. Confirm your Password enter your password again exactly how you entered it the first time. i. Select a Secret Question Select a security question that you will know the answer to in case you forget your password in the future. j. Answer the Question write in your answer. k. Read the User Agreement and then click I Agree Create Profile. *See screenshots below for visual help.

4 5. Once you have created a profile and enrolled in a class, your screen should look like this: 6. On the left side of the screen: a. Enroll in a Class use this tab to add more classes (like your history class, science class, etc.). Remember, you will need the Class ID and Enrollment Password for each class. b. What is Plagiarism? this tab will take you to a website to clarify any questions you may have on what is considered plagiarism. Use it wisely to prevent any accidental plagiarism. c. Citation Help this tab will take you to a website to help you cite your sources correctly so that you don t get caught for plagiarism. 7. On the right side of your screen: a. Your name will appear at the far left of the black bar at the top of your screen. b. User Info this will allow you to change your settings like your password, etc. c. Messages d. Help this will offer you any help or assistance you may need. e. Logout this will log you out of your account. Be sure to log out when you are not using a private computer.
5 Submit an Assignment to TurnItIn.com 1. Make sure you have logged in to your account. You have created your username and password when you set up your account. 2. Once you are logged in, click on the class that you need to turn in an assignment for.
6 3. Once you open the class, you will see a screen similar to the one below. The class should have assignments that you can submit a file to. Make sure you know which assignment you need to upload your file into. 4. Once you have located the assignment that is due, click the blue submit button. You may only submit once the assignment is due. You may not be able to submit after the due date so make sure you do this on time! 5. Once you hit the submit button, fill out the next form with your (a) first name, (b) last name, and (c) submission title or the title of the assignment that is due. Then, (d) choose a file type to upload. You can upload a file that is saved to your computer, a file from a Dropbox account, or a file from your CUSD Google account (remember, every CUSD student has a Google account and it is easy to use). a b c d
7 6. Once you have chosen a file, hit the blue upload button. 7. Once you have hit upload you will receive a confirmation page. Your document should be shown on the right with the details of the file on the left. Make sure your document appears the way you think you completed it. If it appears to be correct, then hit confirm.
8 8. When you have successfully submit your document, you should see a screen like the one below. Make sure you see the green bar at the top that confirms you have successfully submit an assignment. 9. Once you have turned in your assignment, make sure you log-out of your account. Enroll in Additional Classes on TurnItIn.com 1. Make sure you are logged into your account. 2. Once you are logged in, click on Enroll in a Class on the left side of the screen.
9 3. Enter your new class Class ID and Enrollment Password. Once you enter that information, click on submit. 4. You will repeat this step for EACH class that will require you to turn in work via TurnItIn.com.

To find the video, go to and click the Training tab at the top right of the home screen. From the drop-down menu, click Student Training and watch the video that is provided.
