1 AIS Student Guide for submitting a Turnitin Assignment in Moodle

2 Before you start Turnitin currently accepts the following file types for upload into an assignment: Microsoft Word (.doc and.docx) Plain text (.txt) Rich Text Format (.rtf) Portable Document Format (.pdf) OpenOffice / LibreOffice (.odt) Please check with your teacher or follow course instructions regarding the format of document you are to submit. Note 1: PDF documents must contain text to be submitted. PDF files containing only images of text will be rejected during the upload attempt. Note 2: Some document formats can contain multiple data types. This includes text, images, embedded information from another file, and formatting. Non-text information that is not saved directly within the document will not be included in a file upload. This includes for example a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet included within a Microsoft Word document.

3 Login The AIS Moodle e-learning site is: The first thing you should do is Login. Enter your AIS username and password, and then click the 'Log in' button: Next move your mouse or pointer over the 'My courses' link in the top menu: You will see a list of courses you are enrolled in, so click on the course name:

4 Turnitin User Agreement The first time you use Turnitin you will be asked to accept to the Turnitin User Agreement. You must agree with this before you can submit Assignments to Turnitin.

5 Submitting a File Turnitin Assignments show the Turnitin icon: Navigate to the assignment within your Moodle course, and click on the Assignment link: You will now see information regarding the Assignment such as Start Date and End Date: To start the process, click on the Submit Paper link: Enter your Submission Title: Click the statement to confirm the work is your own:

6 To add your file click on the Add file button in the top left: You will want to choose 'Upload a file': Then click on the Browse button: Then use your file manger to find the file you wish to upload on your computer (or network). Once you have chosen your file it will appear: Ignore the next three options, leave them as they are: Click the 'Upload this file' button to upload the file:

7 Your submission will appear on the next screen to confirm you have uploaded the correct file: Click the 'Add submission' button to finalise your submission. Important: You MUST click the 'Add Submission' button to submit your file. If you don't do this, your file will not be submitted to the assignment. You will see a screen to show your submission is being uploaded to Turnitin: When successful, you will see a digital receipt (a copy is also sent to your address): You can then click 'Close' in the top right of the browser window:

8 Drag and Drop submit It is also possible to drag the file you would like to submit from your computer desktop or file manager to the Assignment into the box provided: You may find it easier to drag and drop your file in this way, although many people find it easier to use the Add file button method shown earlier. The rest of the process is exactly the same as shown above.

9 Viewing your grade To view your Grade for this Assignment you can click on the Assignment: If the Assignment result post date has not been reached yet, or your teacher has not graded the assignment yet, it will not show a grade: Once the grades are released you will see a Grade: You can also see your Assignment Grades by clicking on Grades in the Administration Block of your course: Obviously your Grades report will vary depending on how many Assignments are in each course:
