Why NonStop Server There are needs for Japanese mobile message service to provide continues operation as it become society infrastructure Environment to support next generation service HP NonStop TM serveropsol Omni Messaging Released service at July 2002 Slide 21

The Reason for Nonstop Server choice 1High Availability ----Continuous Operation 24x7 NonStop Server achieved highest industry availability. In mobile telephone, telecommunication industry, can not tolerant system down for even one second. NonStop server is the only one capable of delivering availability. 2Flexible Expandability -----Very Flexible to adopt increase of subscriber NonStop Server can be expanded to 4,080CPU with massively parallel architecture and single system image. It is very flexible to expand system just simply adding cpu, memory, disk, and controllers. 3Need to reduce TCO by large NonStop Server can reduce large TCOTotal Cost of Ownershipbecause system can be managed as single system image, such as reducing number of system operators. 4Easy to new services, movie mail distribution KDDI provide high-speed and high- volume of movie mail distribution services which require flexible design of mail box size, because traffic volume will increase and mail size may differ depending of movie length. NonStop Server is the only one platform can support this new services and provide its flexibility. Slide 22

What is M-IMAPM Slide 24

Background of M-IMAP introduction In 1999, KDDI was providing a messaging service by Web-based based method. Weak Points of Web-based based Method Messages cannot be composed locally on the handset side. Messages cannot be stored in a handset. Packet amount is large. Mobile handset itself has become equipped with client function. Slide 25

What is M-IMAP? SMTP Functions for message submission Message submission as well as message retrieval in one protocol M-IMAP Functions for message submission IMAP4rev1 Rich Functions for message retrieval Rich Functions for message retrieval Protocol Chattiness Reduction of Protocol Transaction, Request / Response message size, etc. Slide 26

Advantage of using M-IMAP Independent from from Media Media Formats Able Able to to provide provide new new added added values values flexibly flexibly at at reasonable cost cost Location Information Attached Messaging SMAF Animation Attached Messaging Vector Graphics Animation Enhancement of Functionality and Performance on Mobile Handsets SMIL Messaging Photo Attached Messaging Video Attached Messaging Other Impressive Features Arousing the the needs needs of of high high level level services services with with attractive features Slide 27

Examples of M-IMAP usage case Utilization of M-IMAP M server and client as a mobile enterprise solution It can function as a transport for application services of which h OMA MMS is capable, since all the functions for sending / retrieving messages are covered.
