2 1 Document scope The European Commission Authentication Service (ECAS) is the system that validates the identity of users accessing the online services and websites operated by the European Commission. It requires all users to create and maintain an ECAS account. This includes users of EACEA's system for Charter applications, ECHE online application form. Target audience This document is targeted at users who have never created an ECAS account before as it explains the steps involved in creating an ECAS account for the first time. It is not intended or required for users who already have an ECAS account. 2 Redirection from EACEA's funding webpage The starting point for creating your ECAS account is the EACEA funding webpage for the ECHE Call for proposals: Click on the link to the ECHE online application form of the Executive Agency: When you click on this link, you will be automatically redirected to the ECAS system website. Please note: as you register your details and create your account you will see screens which indicate that you are connecting to a system called 'LABEL'. Do not be concerned the ECHE online application form is one of a group of application tools that is collectively called 'LABEL'. Version 1 Page 2 of 6

3 3 ECAS Registration 3.1 Where are you from? The first page you arrive on requires you to classify yourself: You must select the option 'Neither an institution nor a European body.' Check the box 'Remember my choice' Click on the 'Select' button. This puts you in the External domain: Now select the link 'Not registered yet' to start the registration process. 4 3.2 Sign Up A registration form appears for you to complete: This is not a username provided by EACEA. See below. Click here if you wish to see a different random code The privacy statement checkbox is mandatory Username field The username field is optional. If you don't enter a username the system will automatically generate a username for you. When you eventually log in to ECAS you can do so using either the address or the username. Please note: this username is NOT the Charter ID code or name that some applicants will have had attributed to them during previous selections; likewise it is NOT the username that some applicants (current EUC Holders) will have had ed to them by EACEA. Click on the 'Sign up' button when ready and if the form has been correctly completed you will see the following confirmation message: Version 1 Page 4 of 6

5 3.3 Password creation Several minutes after signing up, an automatic will be sent to the mailbox you entered on your Sign up form. The contains your username and a link for you to create a password for the account you just created. Click on 'this link' Click on 'this link' to be directed to the ECAS password creation webpage: Please note: you must complete the password creation within 90 minutes of the being SENT to you (not within 90 minutes of its arrival)! Complete the form, respecting the format rules cited on-screen and click 'Submit'. If you miss the 90 minute deadline, please refer to the instructions contained within the you received. 6 When your password has been accepted, the following confirmation screen will appear: You have now finished creating your ECAS account. Please keep your account details and password in a safe place. When you log in through ECAS in the future, you can do so either with the username that you chose (or which was generated automatically for you) or with the address that you used to register your account. Proceeding to the ECHE online application form Click on the 'Proceed' button to leave ECAS and be automatically directed to the entry page of the online form: To select one of the two options presented and proceed with your application, please now consult the guidelines and technical instructions published on the EACEA funding webpage for the ECHE Call for proposals. 4 Returning to the ECHE online application form To return to the online form at a later time e.g. to resume completion of an unfinished application, click on the following link: The link can of course be saved as a favourite / bookmark. Whenever you use this link to connect to the online form, you will first be directed to the ECAS login page and, once you have successfully entered your ECAS login details, you will be redirected to your online application form. You may also use the original link on the ECHE Call for proposals funding webpage to return to your form (see the screenshot in section 2 of this guide). Version 1 Page 6 of 6
