3 DESCRIPTION: The following technical document explains the proper setup and programming of the NRXe through LiNC-Ez. 1.0 Initial NRXe TCP/IP Setup Initial programming of NRX IP must be done one NRXe at a time. Connect the NRXe to a computer directly with a crossover cable or connect to your LAN with a patch cable. LiNC-Ez communication to each NRXe requires a unique IP Address and Port number for Static setup and only a unique Port number for a DHCP setup. Check with your customer s IT Administrator to determine appropriate Port and IP Address for each panel. NOTE: Consult your customer s IT Administrator to pass through any ports, if necessary, through your router using NAT or similar port routing service. The NRXe panel is pre-programmed as DHCP, but the NRXe can be setup with a static IP address if needed. All NRXe panels on the system need to be programmed using the same protocol, DHCP or Static IP addresses. NOTE: Use the Record Worksheet in Section 5.0, to record all panel/lan module information. NOTE: The communications settings of earlier NRXe LAN modules may vary. The current LAN module settings are for NRXe firmware and above. 4 2.0 NRXe TCP/IP Configuration DHCP IP Addressing 1. From the LiNC-Ez CD, copy the Digi Device Discovery program to your computer. 2. Power up the NRXe panel. 3. Connect the NRXe panel to the network or straight to your computer. 4. Open the Digi Device Discovery utility. 5. Your NRXe panel(s) should be found by the Digi Device Discovery utility (see below). 6. Wait a minute (or more) to allow the DHCP server to assign an IP address to the NRXe. 7. Select Refresh view, Digi Device Discovery will now show the IP address that has been assigned to the NRXe panel. 8. Highlight and double-click on the NRXe panel to be programmed. The NRXe default setup is for DHCP. The IP addresses of the NRXe panels will show as all zeros. Click on Refresh view to show the IP address the DHCP server has assigned to the NRXe. If an IP address does not show up click Refresh view again. Verify the NRXe panel is plugged into a network that has a DHCP server. Page 4 of 20 NRX-eLAN Install Technical Bulletin A

8 15. Once the Serial Port Configuration window opens, scroll down to the TCP Client Settings section and find the Establish connection to the following network service:. 16. Type in the IP address of the computer on which LiNC-Ez is installed (the IP address of the computer that LiNC-Ez will be installed on). NOTE: This IP address will be the same for every NRXe on the system. 17. Type in a unique TCP Port for each NRXe panel. Each NRXe will have a different Port number. 18. Press the Apply button. At the top of the screen it will show that your changes have been saved. 19. Programming for the NRXe LAN module is now complete. 20. Close the Digi Configuration and Management utility and reopen it to verify your settings are correct. 21. Repeat Steps for each NRXe. 22. 10 26. Once the Panel Communications window opens, program the Port for each NRXe panel. NOTE: When using a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the NRXe panels, you will not program an IP address in LiNC-Ez. Leave the IP address (Address) box blank. 27. Press the Apply button at the bottom of the Panel communications window. Leave Blank Type the Port number that you had previously assigned to the NRXe panel. 11 28. Change the Default Communication Type to TCP/Winsock. 29. Press the Apply button within Default Communication Type. 30. LiNC-Ez will attempt to connect to the NRXe panels. 31. Shutdown LiNC-Ez. 32. Verify all NRXe panels are powered up and are connected to the network. 33. Re-open LiNC-Ez and wait for the NRXe panel to come online. NOTE: It may take 1 to 3 minutes for LiNC-Ez to recognize the NRXe panel. Change Default Communication Type to TCP/Winsock Click on Apply. Page 11 of 20 NRX-eLAN Install Technical Bulletin A

12 3.0 NRXe TCP/IP Configuration Static IP Addressing 1. From the LiNC-Ez CD, copy the Digi Device Discovery program to your computer 2. Power up the NRXe panel. 3. Connect the NRXe panel to the network or straight to your computer. 4. Open the Digi Device Discovery utility. 5. Your NRXe panel(s) should be found by the Digi Device Discover utility (see below). 6. Double-click on the NRXe panel to be programmed. 7. Select Manually configure network settings, enter the IP address, Subnet mask and a Gateway if needed. 8. Press the Save Button. Page 12 of 20 NRX-eLAN Install Technical Bulletin A

13 9. Wait for the Digi Device Discovery to save your settings, Digi Device Discovery will then show the NRXe with the assigned IP address. 10. Highlight and double-click on the NRXe panel to be programmed. 11. The Digi Configuration and Management Login window will open. 12. Input the Username (root) and the Password (dbps). 13. 15 17. Once the Serial Port Configuration window opens, go to the TCP Server Settings section. 18. Type in a unique Port number for each NRXe panel. Each NRXe will have a different Port number. 19. Press the Apply button. At the top of the screen it will acknowledge your changes have been saved. 20. Programming for the NRXe LAN module is now complete. 21. Close the Digi Configuration and Management utility and reopen it to verify your settings are correct. 22. Repeat Steps for each NRXe. 17 26. Go to the TCP/Winsock tab. 27. Type in the static IP address that was previously assigned to the NRXe. 28. Type in the Port number that was previously assigned to the NRXe. 29. Press Apply at the bottom of the Panel Communications window. Type in the NRXe static IP address. Type in the NRXe port number. Page 17 of 20 NRX-eLAN Install Technical Bulletin A

18 30. Change the Default Communication Type to TCP/Winsock. 31. Press the Apply button in the Default Communication Type. 32. LiNC-Ez will attempt to connect to the NRXe panels. 33. Shutdown LiNC-Ez. 34. Verify all NRXe panels are powered up and are connected to the network. 35. Re-open LiNC-Ez and wait for the NRXe panel to come online. 19 4.0 Troubleshooting Guide NRXe Troubleshooting Guide NRXe panels will not come online. Verify the MAC address, IP address and ports all match correctly to what is programmed into LiNC-Ez. Check the settings in the LAN module. Verify Configuration Wizard is not open. (Example: Panel 1 was assigned port 3101 but in LiNC-Ez you programmed port 3101 for panel 2) All IP addresses and ports are programmed correctly in the LAN module and in LiNC-Ez, but the NRXe panels do not communicate. When I start the Digi Device Discovery program, my NRXe is found but the IP address shows as all zeros. My NRXe is found with Digi Device Discovery with an IP address but the IP address has an exclamation point in a red circle The Digi Device Discovery program does not find my NRXe. My customer changed other settings in the LAN module other than the port and IP address, now the NRXe will not communicate. LiNC-Ez seems slow Check for a firewall or anti-virus program. You may need to set these programs to permit LiNC-Ez to communicate on the LAN. The LAN module on the NRXe is factory programmed for DHCP. The all zero IP address is normal. You will need to assign an IP address for a static setup. With a DHCP setup click" Refresh View" in Digi Device Discovery and an IP address should be assigned from the DHCP server. Verify the NRXe is connected to a DHCP server. The IP address assigned to the PC is in a different domain than the IP address programmed into the NRXe LAN module. Change the IP address in the NRXe LAN module to match the PC's IP address domain Make sure the computer you are on is on the same LAN as the NRXe panel. Verify all cables, cable connections and LAN hardware are in good working order. Included on the LiNC-Ez install CD there are factory default files labeled LANbackupxxx.cfg or Wifibackup - xxx.cfg. Copy and paste this file to the LiNC-Ez computer. Access the LAN module through the Digi Device Discovery utility and go to Backup/ Restore. Browse to the.cfg file you copied to the computer, click the restore button. Reprogram the Port number and the IP address An NRXe panel is disconnected from the LAN or has no power.
