2 RGX Communications Server RGX OVERVIEW The RGX card was developed to act as a communications gateway for the CR-110 refrigeration card and the ER-110 evaporator controller. It may also be used with other types of controllers. The primary operation of the RGX is to poll up to 10 devices on a RS-485 communications bus and then make the data available via a UDP network connection, HTTP embedded web server, TCP modbus network and RS-485 modbus connection. The RGX also has a RS-485 port that will translate data to a second RS-485 port that is used for polling control cards. The RGX has an embedded web server that will display all data and allow changes on a web page with three levels of security. The embedded web server will also send text messages for alarms and updates. The network connection also allows a variety of remote software and data collection to poll the devices. A spreadsheet file is the driver for all the card types and datapoint setups. This file can be configured for a specific application and then downloaded via the network connection to the RGX. 3 RGX Communications Server RGX TYPICAL APPLICATION The RGX can communicate with a number of different devices using either BCS or Modbus. The BCS communications would be for CR-110 refrigeration controllers, ER-110 electronic expansion valve controllers or any of the legacy Gellert equipment. 4 RGX Communications Server RGX WIRING DIAGRAM NETWORK CONNECTION Note - it is preferable to use a 24VDCpower supply, but you could use a 24VAC transformer. + 24VDC or 24VAC Note - The HMI Modbus port can be either RS-232 or RS-485 but not both. Switch S1 will select between which port you need to wire to. An external termination resistor can be used if needed. The HMI RS-485 port is not isolated, but has the pull-up and pull-down resistors. There is no termination resistor. 6 RGX Communications Server RGX NETWORK CONNECTION The RGX network connection is on the plug-in Rabbit processor card: You can plug your laptop directly into the network connection using a null cable or you can plug the RGX card into a router or switch. A wireless Bridge may also be used to provide a network connection to the RGX. With the proper network connection, you should be able to use any web browser and type in the IP address and access the login page. Use the username user1 And password pass1 The following page will describe how to access the page if the IP and username and or password are unknown.

7 RGX Communications Server RGX BACKDOOR The RGX is setup using a network connection and web browser. The default IP address is and comes from the factory with three usernames and passwords all set for full control. Factory defaults: IP port 80 User name user1 user2 user3 Password pass1 pass2 pass3 If the usernames, passwords or IP addresses are changed and lost you can default the RGX using a Jumper on 4 & 7 on Jack J5. J5 Jumper 1 To activate the backdoor on the RGX, power the card down and install a Jumper as shown on J5. Power the unit up and access the card using the default address on your web browser ( You should then get a username and password box. Once you have accessed the card and put in new IP and security settings, power the card down, remove the jumper and power back up. With the jumper in use rgx for both the username and password. This will allow you full access to set the card up.

8 RGX Communications Server RGX WEB INTERFACE Once you access the web page, you should see the main page. The main page is configured using a spreadsheet. You can label and setup the page as you desire. The specifics of this setup page is described later in this manual. You can display up to 10 devices on the main or summary page. To view more detail or make program changes click on the unit under the Name column. The Detail page contains more information for each of the units. Click on Modify Values to make program changes.

9 RGX Communications Server 9 The modify screen allows you to change any of the values listed. To modify a value, change the value and then click on Update. If for some reason the program change does not work, you will get a Write Fail screen. Some devices such as the CR and ER cards can be reset using the Reset Card button. 7.1 RGX WEB INTERFACE RECORDS The RGX can store up to 10,000 records for each of the 10 possible devices. Each device has its own set of records. Average Historical records are triggered at a specific time interval. You can also create activity records that are instantaneous records that are triggered by a mode or status change for the unit. There are two choices to download the records. One is to use the Start date and End date. The other is to download the last seven days. The last seven days is primarily used for Excel templates. The Start date and End date are at midnight. So today's start date and tomorrows end date will give you today s data. When you click on Retrieve records, you should get the following screen.

10 RGX Communications Server 10 At this point you can save the records or open the records in Excel. After a short time you should get the records in the following format. You can auto adjust all the column s by double clicking on the division between A and B. The order and selection of the parameters for the records can be changed in the csv set up file. This file is described later in this manual.

11 RGX Communications Server RGX SETUP Once you access the web page, you should see the main page. Click on the Configure Site button. 8.1 RGX ETHERNET SETUP To connection your RGX card up to the world wide web, you will need a high speed internet connection with a public static ip. You must get the following information from your internet provider to setup your RGX. Outside Static Public IP address. Subnet Mask Gateway IP DNS Server IP SMTP Server IP A address for the RGX card. Once you get this information, you will need to set up a router, unless you are using a dsl modem that already has a router built in. In either case you need to do some planning. First, is the RGX going on an existing network or on a network dedicated to just the RGX.

12 RGX Communications Server 12 The IP address will typically be what we call an internal ip number. The default setting for the RGX is with the HTTP port 80. The HTTP port 80 is a default port. If your computer is on the inside you could access the RGX with If you changed the HTTP port to 4005, the access address would be When using port 80 you do not need to include the port number in the address. Port 80 is normally reserved and not recommended for use with the RGX. If using a router it is important to use the port forwarding feature to allow access to the RGX from the outside. The Subnet Mask should be in most cases. If you are tying into a large local network the network administrator can give you the correct IP and subnet mask. The Gateway ip will be provided by the internet provider. The DNS Server ip will also be provided by the internet provider. When making changes, it is important that you make the change and then press the Submit button. Then you must press the Save Changes button.

13 RGX Communications Server RGX SECURITY Click on the User drop down to set up the security for the system. You have three security settings: View, Control and Configure. You should have only one username with the Configure security. You do not want the end user to have access to the Configure settings. To disable the username, click on the dropdown and choose N. 8.3 RGX SITE INFO The Site Info drop down allows you to set a Name for the RGX. The panel # is used for the UDP communications and in most cases would be set to 1. You may have times when you are using the RGX with other devices on the same network and 1 is already taken. Choose a slave address that is not being used in those cases. The UDP Port is used for remote access using program such as Xmax and Xbase. Normally this would be set the same as the HTTP port number. 8.4 RGX TIME CLOCK Use this screen to set the Date and Time on the rabbit clock calendar. The time is in a 24 hour format.

14 RGX Communications Server RGX ALARM & TEXT MESSAGING The drop down allows you to configure the RGX for and text messaging. You will need the SMTP server name and a address for the RGX. You can enter up to four addresses to send alarms and reports to. For text messaging, see appendix A for an address for your cell phone. 8.5 RGX COMMUNICATIONS Use this screen to set up the communications port. All communications are N81. The J6 Aux Port is used for BCS communications as found on the CR, ER and Galaxy devices. The Modbus server ID is when the RGX is acting as a Client and communicating with a device such as a Touch Screen. The J7 Main port can be used to communicate with MODBUS devices or a specific G55 device using BCS. Set the J7 Main port for the desired baud rate. J10 or J12 can be used as a modbus client interface and you need to select the baud rate. The P1 Modem Port Baud rate is a dedicated RS-232 port using the RGX as a client. The Card Poll Rate is the time in seconds between updates. Do not go below three seconds.

15 RGX Communications Server DEFAULT SETTINGS AND INF MANAGER On the configure page there is a Default Settings button. If you click on this all the settings will be defaulted. There is no second chance; if you click on it, the RGX card is defaulted. Below the Default Settings button, there is a link to the Inf Manager. This is the setup file for the RGX card that gives it all the information to poll and sets up each device. Click on this link to go to the Inf Manger Page. Current Software Revision

16 RGX Communications Server INF MANAGER To load a new configuration file, click on the Browse button and select the file. Then click on the upload file. To look at the current configuration file, click on the Download Current Card Configuration File link. This will open it in the browser. To save or make changes, click on File and then Save As. The file will be saved as a.csv file. This can be opened in Excel. If you make changes, you must make sure you save it as a.csv file, not the standard xls file.

17 RGX Communications Server CONFIGURATION FILE The configuration file is rather complex in the initial setup and definition of the Card. Everything has to be exact and the Card Definition part of the file should be setup by factory personal only. Initially each of the cards has a definition [CARD DEF 1]. After the card definitions is the actual setup file. These sections can be copied and pasted depending on the number of cards and the types. This first part of the [CARD DEF 1] is for the CR-110 card. 19 RGX Communications Server 19 This next section is the actual layout of the web page and modbus address for each of the cards. You can have up to 10 Cards with any mix of CR and ER types. Each of the cards will begin with [CARD 1] then [CARD 2] on up to [CARD 10] or the last number of the card. The cards must be in order. CARD # CARD ADDRESS CARD TYPE 1 = CR = ER-110 [CARD_1] All numbers are critical and should not be changed. To add CR-110 copy these numbers and paste them in your spreadsheet. Then change the CARD # and address.

20 RGX Communications Server 20 This shows the ER-110 configuration file. If you have multiple ER cards, copy and past this file in consecutive order. Example would be for CARD 3 to be a ER card with address 62. Just add CARD 3 directly following CARD 2.
