[RT01] UNIVERSITY OF BOLTON REATIVE TEHNOLOGIES OMPUTING LUSTER SEMESTER TWO EXAMINATION 2017/2018 NETWORK ARHITETURE MOULE NO: PU5011 ate: Monday 21 st May 2018 Time: 10:00 12:00 INSTRUTIONS TO ANIATES: There are SIX questions. Answer ANY FOUR questions. All questions carry equal marks. Marks for parts of questions are shown in brackets. All rough work must be written in your answer book.

Page 2 of 7 reative Technologies omputing luster Module No. PU5011 QUESTION 1 1a. In what way does the efault Gateway parameter on P represent a single point of failure in an otherwise resilient network? (4 marks) 1b. Using appropriate IOS commands show how a pair of routers can be configured to prevent the single point of failure problem identified in question 1a. Include a diagram showing appropriate network devices to complete this solution. 1c. What are the benefits of using Etherchannel between two switches? (5 marks) 1d. What IOS commands would you use to setup an Etherchannel between switches SW1 and SW2 using gigabit ports G0/0 and G0/1 on each device. The channel should carry VLANS 10, 20 and 30. QUESTION 2 2a. Why do routing protocols like OSPF and EIGRP use password-based encryption? (6 marks) 2b. Using IOS commands show the difference between advertising routes using EIGRP for IPv4 and IPv6. (10 marks) 2c. What is the purpose of isco s VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP)? Identify and describe the three different roles an individual switch can play in VTP.

Page 3 of 7 reative Technologies omputing luster Module No. PU5011 QUESTION 3 3a. What causes a broadcast storm in a switched network? (6 marks) 3b. Using the network in shown above, explain the process used to elect a Root Bridge using the Spanning Tree Protocol. Your answer should include BI values and BPU frames. (10 marks) 3c. Whichever switch is elected as the root bridge, describe the roles of the gigabit ports G0/1 and G0/2 on each of the switches shown above.

Page 4 of 7 reative Technologies omputing luster Module No. PU5011 QUESTION 4 4a. The full calculation of the EIGRP metric is: metric = 256 [(K 1 bandwidth + K 2bandwidth (256 load) + K K 5 3delay) ] reliability + K 4 What are the normal values of the K values and how is the equation simplified if they are applied? (4 marks) 4b. What are the faults that could prevent two connected routers forming an EIGRP adjacency? Which show commands would enable you to debug the problem? State what you are looking for in the output of the show commands. Assume that the wiring is correct and the IP addresses and subnetting is not the problem. 4c. Explain the difference between Reported istance and Feasible istance in terms of EIGRP. (4 marks) 4d. Using a flow chart show how the UAL algorithm selects a new route when the current successor route becomes unavailable.

Page 5 of 7 reative Technologies omputing luster Module No. PU5011 QUESTION 5 5a. Using the network diagram above, explain why OSPF uses a designated router for multi-access networks. (6 Marks) 5b. What are the benefits of running multi-area OSPF compared to the single area version? (6 marks) 5c. With the aid of a diagram explain the different roles a router can take in a multiarea OSPF network? 5d. What are the is the purpose of the type 1 to type 5 LSA packets used in a multiarea OSPF network. (5 marks)
