7 Preface vii Typographical Conventions The following typographical conventions are used in this manual. Table 1 General Typographical Conventions Convention ENV_NAME TIBCO_HOME SPM_HOME Use TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments. An installation environment consists of the following properties: Name Identifies the installation environment. This name is referenced in documentation as ENV_NAME. On Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer and is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu. Path The folder into which the product is installed. This folder is referenced in documentation as TIBCO_HOME. TIBCO Service Performance Manager installs into a directory within TIBCO_HOME. This directory is referenced in documentation as SPM_HOME. The default value of SPM_HOME depends on the operating system. For example on Windows systems, the default value is C:\tibco\spm\2.1. code font Code font identifies commands, code examples, filenames, pathnames, and output displayed in a command window. For example: Use MyCommand to start the foo process. bold code font Bold code font is used in the following ways: In procedures, to indicate what a user types. For example: Type admin. In large code samples, to indicate the parts of the sample that are of particular interest. In command syntax, to indicate the default parameter for a command. 12 2 Release Notes New Features This section lists the features added since the last major release of this product. Release TIBCO Service Performance Manager Server Added TIBCO Configuration Tool to configure the server, dashboard, and to generate the database schema. By default, the configuration tool starts after the installation is complete. However, you may choose to start it separately. Service Performance Manager server now supports an additional database, DB2. TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard The ActiveMatrix WebConsole is now called TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard. It has been enhanced to support the following actions: Monitor additional TIBCO ActiveMatrix assets such as JDBC and HTTP resources. Display the binding type information (that is, whether the binding type is SOAP, REST, JMS, or Virtualization). Filter environments, application, services, nodes, and resources. If an application or a list of applications is excluded, the related data is filtered out on the UI. View information related to the runtime configuration of the Service Performance Manager server. Specify severity of a rule. Display configurable enterprise name on the dashboard header. The Service Performance Manager documentation is no longer bundled with the installer. You can obtain the documentation from Release The product name is changed from TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager to TIBCO Service Performance Manager from this release.

13 New Features 3 This release supports an external Java installation in addition to bundled TIBCO JRE. This release supports a new optional add-on for integration of TIBCO Service Performance Manager with TIBCO StreamBase LiveView. This component enables the viewing of computed aggregated metric results from the Service Performance Manager server using customizable dashboards in TIBCO StreamBase LiveView Desktop. The new add-on provides a new utility LiveView Project Generator. You can use this utility to generate all the necessary artifacts required for Liveview projects, for any of the custom Service Performance Manager schema defined for KPI computation and aggregation. Such a generated project can be imported and customized using LiveView Desktop. In addition to the generator utility, three out-of-the-box examples of LiveView projects (for TIBCO ActiveMatrix 3.3.0, TIBCO Hawk 5.0, and TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks 5.11) are provided. This release bundles samples on how to design a probe in SPM_HOME\examples\probes folder. You can use this sample source code as a starting point to create your custom probes. With this release, TIBCO Service Performance Manager supports Microsoft SQL Server. For a complete list of supported platforms, databases, and third-party software, refer to the product readme. Release This release uses a completely new architecture, design, and codebase, designed for flexibility and performance: Performance: the metrics computation is based on a real-time Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) design that is optimized for high performance. Flexibility: new schemas for different hierarchies of information can be used to affect the roll-up and aggregations of information. To this, new calculation functions can be added to provide different or additional

Heterogeneous: a new Client API enables both, new producers and consumers of information. Independence: the server component is no longer hosted under ActiveMatrix Service Grid. Visualization: a new web-based user interface enables the viewing of metrics and results outside of ActiveMatrix Administrator. Installation and Configuration Simplicity: the lack of dependencies on a host ActiveMatrix server platform for deployment has considerably simplified installation and configuration. Platform Support: added support for the following platforms: Apple Mac OS X Sun Solaris 10 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Microsoft Windows 8 IBM AIX 7.1 Database Support: Added support for PostgreSQL 9.2.x New visual client, called ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager WebConsole Internet Explorer 9.0 and Firefox 20.0 Web Browsers This release uses a new user interface architecture and supports Internet Explorer 9.0, Firefox 20.0m and Chrome 28 with a recommended resolution of minimum 1280x1024. Client API This release provides a Java Client API that can be used to model aggregation rules, and save the model to a schema file. This schema is made available to the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager server. By using the client API, applications connect to the server and submit the data identified as facts. The server uses the facts as the input to compute the aggregations as defined in the schema. Also included is a query API that you can use to query the computations.

16 6 Release Notes Changes in Functionality This section lists the changes in functionality since the last major release of this product. Release TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard Health Monitoring Screen has been enhanced to show asset-wise visualization of monitored ActiveMatrix assets. Summary screens are added for HTTP and JDBC shared resource instances. The SendtoDashboard action is no longer available in the dashboard. Instead, all alerts are sent to the dashboard, by default. TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard is now accessible using the following URL: API The Service Performance Manager Client API has been updated with this release. Any tool that uses the API must be recompiled with the Service Performance Manager API. Release This release supports: A new server property rta.snapshot.query.timeout. It specifies timeout for the expiration of snapshot query in milliseconds. Service Performance Manager WebConsole as a Windows service. validation. For the invalid , the text box border turns red.

17 Changes in Functionality 7 Release The architecture of TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager has undergone significant changes since the release. The new release includes the following major components: TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager Server TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager Client TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager WebConsole TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager WebServer TIBCO Service Performance Manager is a stand-alone product that enables applications to monitor their services by designing a probe. Application-specific probe can be designed using the TIBCO Service Performance Manager APIs. TIBCO ActiveMatrix 3.x.x nodes use the client API to send data to the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager server for aggregations. For more information, refer to TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Grid Installation Addendum. TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard is currently customized only for the schema and probe used with TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Grid. Other schemas and client data sources must use the client API to extract information as required. This product version supports the following software and platforms: JRE 1.7 or higher TIBCO Enterprise Message Service 6.3 or higher Databases: Oracle 11g Release 2 (11.2), PostgreSQL 9.2.x Platforms: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release bit or higher, Microsoft Windows Server bit, and Windows 7-32 bit or 64 bit (for non-production purposes)

Key Summary/Workaround SPM-5724 The dashboard server was unable to load actions in the UI SPM-5314 Occasionally, a postinstallation error occurred when you installed different features separately under the same TIBCO_HOME SPM-5296 Running the LiveView server threw the following error for sb-lv-adapter.jar: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.runtimeexception: com.streambase.sb.streambaseexception: Unable to read jar file SPM-5222 Running the tibspmddlgenerator utility for creating the database scripts for SQL server displayed the following warning: Warning! The maximum key length is 900 bytes. The index 'metric_assets_pk' has maximum length of 1000 bytes. For some combination of large values, the insert/update operation will fail SPM-5139 A NullPointer Exception was thrown when SpmApiDemo.java was executed from the command prompt without specifying the property file SPM-5111 Selecting a row on the Alerts dashboard, highlighted the row. However, the highlight disappeared when the data was updated SPM-4654 Number of alerts displayed on the Alerts dashboard could not be limited by setting the rta.max.timeresultset.fetch.count property SPM-4642 When two users used the same credentials to login, only one session received the alerts SPM-4638 While working on TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard, the sorted columns reset every few seconds.

21 Known Issues 11 Known Issues The table in this section lists the known issues in this release. Summary If the server is not configured, the server fails to send alerts to the dashboard. Summary Stopping ActiveMatrix dashboard throws a warning and fails to stop the dashboard. It may result in a memory leak. Summary The ClientIP Table in the HTTP Connector instance details is not filtered for the given connector instance. The page also shows Client IPs for other connector instances. Summary Creating a rule on the node hierarchy for MachineName, OSName, OSArch, and OSVersion does not work. Summary Deleting a node does not delete the shared resource on the node and continues to display the resource instance on the dashboard. Summary [IE only] The alert notification is displayed in the Alerts dashboard even when there are no new alerts. Summary The Shared Resource summary page does not display all the instances.

Summary In the Alerts dashboard, changing the priority of past alerts throws the following error: ERROR http-bio-8080-exec-6 [spm.dashboard.psvr.plugins.spmplugin.actions] - No result returned from Metric server. Summary The Alerts details page displays only the date and not the time of the day. Summary Restarting the Enterprise Message server sometimes throws the following error in the Service Performance Manager server logs while trying to save a fact: ERROR worker-thread-24 [rta.services.persistence] - SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException encountered.. This is harmless and the transaction is retried by skipping over duplicate messages that are causing this exception. Summary In the Service Performance Manager server logs, sometimes you may see an exception such as: 08 May :11:12,118 IST ERROR metric-compute-thread-24 [rta.services.persistence] - SQLException encountered while applying transaction org.postgresql.util.psqlexception: ERROR: deadlock detected Detail: Process waits for ShareLock on transaction 44381; blocked by process Process waits for ShareLock on transaction 44380; blocked by process Hint: See server log for query details., This is harmless as the transaction is retried till successful.

23 Known Issues 13 Key SPM-5649 SPM-5312 Summary/Workaround When you perform a custom installation of Service Performance Manager, and if you do not select the server component, the amx-rtruntime.jar is not available in SPM_HOME/lib. Only the following JAR files are available: rtclient.jar rtcommon.jar rtmetrics.jar rtruntime.jar Workaround Copy amx-rtruntime.jar from another installation which has the Service Performance Manager server related jars. Specify the location of the JAR files in the sbd.sbconf file located in the ActiveMatrix LiveView Project folder. Summary Sometimes on the Windows Server platform, a TRA based executable, such as tibspm.exe, does not start, and gives an error message similar to the following: Lib name C:/tibco/spm/tibcojre64/1.7.0/bin/server/jvm.dll Failed to load shared library, library name : C:/tibco/spm/tibcojre64/1.7.0/bin/server/jvm.dll Workaround Manually edit the corresponding TRA file, and add %PSP%%TIB_JAVA_HOME%/bin to the Path variable as shown below: tibco.env.path %SPM_HOME%/hotfix/bin;%SPM_HOME%/bin;%EMS_HOME%/bin;%JVM_LIB_ SERVER_DIR%%PSP%%TIB_JAVA_HOME%/bin;%PATH% SPM-5205 Summary Running the Hawk Microagent and the LiveView server on the same physical machine causes the Hawk Microagent to crash. Workaround Do not run the HMA and LiveView server on the same physical machine.

24 14 Release Notes Key SPM-5140 SPM-5131 Summary/Workaround Summary When the Enterprise Message Service server is installed remotely or in a different TIBCO_HOME, the ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager does not start as a Windows NT service. Workaround Perform the following manual steps: 1. Go to SPM_HOME/bin. 2. Use tibspm.exe --uninstall. 3. Update EMS_HOME in SPM_HOME/bin/tibspm.tra appropriately. 4. Use tibspm.exe --install. 5. Start the Windows NT service. Summary At times, when the input data size of the fact attributes is greater than 255 characters, the server throws an exception. Workaround To overcome the issue: 2. Stop the server. 3. Execute the following command on the database: alter table <table_name> modify <column_name> varchar2(<new size>) (for Oracle) or alter table <table_name> modify <column_name> varchar (<new size>) (for PostgreSQL) where: <table_name> is the name of the fact table (fact_*) <column_name> is the column causing the error <new_size> is the new size of the column name that fully accommodates the incoming data size. This is available in the corresponding Service Performance Manager error log. 4. Restart the server. If you encounter a similar issue with any string-based column of any TIBCO Service Performance Manager table, for example, the "key" column of the metric_* tables, follow a similar procedure and increase the column width. SPM-5116 Summary Creating a rule from any dashboard opens the Rule Wizard dialog. However, closing the Rule Wizard dialog opens the Rules Summary page instead of the dashboard.

25 Known Issues 15 Key SPM-5096 Summary/Workaround When an environment is created and there is no node associated with it, the environment appears on the dashboard only for the hour in which it is created. That is, if the environment is created at 10 or A.M., it appears only until A.M. SPM-5075 Summary Refreshing the ActiveMatrix Dashboard on Internet Explorer 9.0 makes the UI appear small and unclear. SPM-5074 SPM-4943 SPM-4880 SPM-4879 SPM-4804 SPM-4717 SPM-4663 Summary In the Create New Rule dialog, the operation name dimension values show up in the list only if there are service hits for the selected service. Workaround To define a rule on an operation, make sure the service (to which the operation belongs) is hit at least once. Summary If TIBCO Service Performance Manager is installed in a directory with a space in the name, a fatal error occurs. Workaround Use a directory name that does not have a space in it. Summary The Node Summary dashboard incorrectly displays the status of the System node as "Up" even after the System node is shut down. Summary After shutting down TIBCO Host, the status of a deployed application appears to be "Running" on ActiveMatrix Administrator whereas it appears to be "Down" on the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard. Summary When TIBCO Host goes down, the Availability of assets displayed on the Health Monitoring Summary screen is incorrect. Summary When TIBCO Host is shut down, the status of Application and Environment changes to "Down", but the status of the node continues to appear as "Up". Summary While working on the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Dashboard, the Environment, Nodes, and Services summary appears blank for seconds when the hour boundary crosses.
