7 7 1. About this Guide This guide outlines the concepts and procedures used by the host part of Data Express. It shows how to start and work with Data Express in a mainframe environment.

Who Should Read this Guide This guide is for Micro Focus users who want to verify the integrity of data contained in databases (DB2 or DL/I) or data sets (VSAM, SEQUENTIAL, or GDG) of applications running on MVS, OS/390, or z/os platforms that are either developed internally or purchased by external suppliers. This guide describes: submission of scheduled client jobs product activation The use of Data Express requires a minimum experience of the mainframe platform MVS, OS/390, or z/os.

Micro Focus Data (Host) Considerations Bear in mind the following points about Data Express: You do not need to analyze the sources of the programs in the application in order to use Data Express. This product does not perform any operation capable of altering the analyzed data. To use this product, you must have the correct licence. See the Requirements and Installation Procedures guide and the chapter Product Enabling in this guide for more details.

13 4. Starting Data (Host) The Data Express (Host) client runs on MVS, OS/390, or z/os systems. To start Data (Host): 1. Execute the following command from a TSO environment: EXEC xxxxxxxx.yyyyyyyy.

Execute the following command from a TSO environment: EXEC xxxxxxxx.yyyyyyyy.clist(mfdata) - or - Execute the following command from an ISPF command line: TSO EXEC xxxxxxxx.yyyyyyyy.clist(mfdata) where xxxxxxxx.yyyyyyyy is a part of the PDS library name where member MFDATA is located. In both cases, this command allocates PDS libraries to ISPF and launches the Micro Focus Data - Main Menu in an ISPF environment as shown below: Figure 4-1: Micro Focus Data - Main Menu Panel 2. Specify the appropriate option from one of the three sections as listed below. Note: If this is the first time you have started the Host module, you must first enable your product. For more information, see the section Product Enabling. Submission Function Lists an option to submit scheduled jobs automatically for execution. Product Enabling Lists options to retrieve and specify the software key, and check product licensing status.

15 15 5. Submission Function Data Express lets you submit scheduled jobs automatically from the Data module so that you can work from your PC to schedule jobs to verify the results of executed jobs. Use the Submit Client Schedule Job panel to set options for job scheduling and execution. For more information about scheduling jobs, see the chapter Work with Jobs in the Micro Focus Data Express Front End User Guide. Note: You cannot use Data to schedule File Field Sampling jobs for direct access DL/I databases Submit Client Scheduled Job Panel This section describes the Submit Client Scheduled Job (BURSUBM) panel. The client scheduled job reads the knowledge base to determine if a new job has been created in the client Work with Jobs area, and then submits the jobs accordingly. The client scheduled job is also called the submitter job. To submit client scheduled jobs: 1. From the Main Menu panel, select the option Submit Client Scheduled Job to display the Submit Client Scheduled Job (BURSUBM) panel as shown below: Figure 5-1: Submit Client Scheduled Job (BURSUBM) Panel

16 16 2. Insert parameter names into fields as required: Expiration Date/Time Day and time at which the submitter job will stop running. Setting the Expiration Date parameter to the value *TODAY causes the submitter job to expire automatically. If you leave the Expiration Date parameter blank, the submitter job does not expire. Maximum Number of Total Job Maximum number of jobs that can be submitted. At the end of the last of these submissions, the submitter job turns itself off even if the time to switch itself off has not been reached. Cycle Sleep Time Amount of sleep time (hhmmss: hours, minutes, and seconds) between two successive job submission cycles. Maximum Number of Jobs for Cycle Maximum number of jobs that can be submitted in a submission cycle. Assuming you want to submit one job per hour, set the Cycle Sleep Time parameter to and the Maximum Number of Jobs for Cycle parameter to Submit Already Scheduled Job An indicator of whether to submit the jobs that have already been scheduled before the submitter job. A forward slash (/) indicates that the option is selected. If this option is not selected, the jobs previously scheduled from the PC will be ignored. JES2 Input Class Input class in which the submitter job must be executed. Note: The JES2 Input Class parameter updates the KURJBNPC job tabsheet located in the PDS SKEL product library. Before submitting the submitter job, you must customize this tabsheet according to your company standards.

17 17 6. Product Enabling To use the fully enabled version of Data Express, you must retrieve and specify the software key. This key is used to activate all Data Express functions appropriate for your product license. Note: If the product is not fully enabled, some of the main batch jobs may terminate incorrectly Panels This section describes the panels displayed by selecting options in the Product Enabling section of the Main Menu panel Get Enabling String The enabling string is the software key needed in order to activate Data Express. To get the enabling string: 1. From the Main Menu panel, select option Get Enabling String to display the Get Enabling String (CEURGST) panel as shown below: Figure 6-1: Get Enabling String (CEURGST) Panel 2. Note the string listed in the Enabling String field. 3. Press F3 to return to the Main Menu panel Apply Software Key After retrieving the enabling string (or software key), you must apply it to activate Data Express.

18 18 To apply the software key: 1. From the Main Menu panel, select option Apply Software Key to display the Apply Software Key (CEURKEY) panel as shown below: Figure 6-2: Apply Software Key (CEURKEY) Panel 2. Specify the string you noted in the Enabling String field from the Get Enabling String (CEURGST) panel. 3. Press F3 to return to the Main Menu panel.

19 Display Enabled Options After Data Express has been activated, you can verify the license status at any time. 19 To display enabled options: 1. From the Main Menu panel, select option Display Enabled Options to display the Display Enabled Options panel as shown below: Figure 6-3: Display Enabled Options Panel 2. Note the information as appropriate. 3. Press F3 to return to the Main Menu panel Error Messages If problems occur during product enabling, the following error messages might be displayed: PRODUCT ALREADY ENABLED FOR ANOTHER SYSTEM: xx INVALID SOFTWARE KEY: xx where xx is a two-digit error code that is used to describe the problem in detail and must be provided with the message text to Micro Focus SupportLine. If a batch job encounters a problem during a product enabling status check (for example, File / Copy Relationship Analysis, File Field Sampling, or Class Field Assignment), it will terminate incorrectly with a two-digit error code of 08 after displaying one of the following error messages in the job output spool: PROT-xx - SOFTWARE KEY NOT ENABLED OR INVALID SOFTWARE KEY PROT-xx - MICRO FOCUS DATA LICENSE HAS EXPIRED!!!
