If you are not installing directly from the CDROM: copy the CDROM contents to a directory and follow the instructions defined in the WebSphere Studio Application Monitor Installation and Customization Guide Part 2. Note: The CDROM installation is not supported for IBM DB2 version 8.1 fixpack 3 and/or WebSphere Application Server installation. You must copy DB2 and/or WAS images to your local drive and then proceed with the installation. Embedded Installer The following are Embedded installation instructions for WebSphere Application Server 5.1 fixpack1 and IBM DB2 v8.1 fixpack 3 WSAM 3.2 support DB2 v8.1.3 and higher. But if you use installer to install it, it will install only IBM DB2 v8.1 fixpack 3. You cannot use your own images for DB2 installation. You should use the one that is shipped with the WSAM 3.2 package. Do the following steps prior to running the installer. WAS 1. Insert the CD for WAS 5.1 and copy all the contents of WAS 5.1 media to the local directory (e.g. /tmp/was51). 2. Insert the CD for WAS fp1 and copy all the contents of WAS fixpack 1 media to the local directory (e.g. /tmp/wasfp1). 3. Do not mount these images. Make sure that these directories have write permissions. 4. On Windows, before installing WAS, check that the registray does not have any entry related to WebSphere Application Server If you find it, then please remove it from the registry. Also while selecting the directory where you want to install WAS, make sure that this directory does not have any left over files from the previous WebSphere installation. You should delete the directory before running the installer. 5. Follow the instructions specified in Installation and Customization Guide, Chapter 5: How to uninstall WAS to uninstall previously installed WAS. 6. Known problems and workarounds This section contains information regarding the known problems and workarounds for the Managing Server and the Data Collector. Managing Server v For Solaris operating system and local Oracle Database, sqplplus user (eg. oracle) must use sh shell and variables should be defined in the.profile file. To verify that the profile is set correctly, run the following command which should return your sqlplus path. su - <sqlplus_user(oracle)> -c "which sqlplus" v The Managing Server Installer requires default server1 templates located in <WAS Installation Directory>/config/templates/default/nodes/servers/server1/ directory. So if you modify any of these default templates, restore them before you run the installer. v During the installation, you might see one of the following exceptions in the installer-ms.log. It will not affect your installation so you can ignore it. 4 IBM Tivoli WebSphere Studio Application Monitor: Release Notes

11 Install, com.installshield.product.service.product.purejavaproductserviceimpl$installer, err, ProductException: (error code = 601; message= JVM not found ) ProductException: (error code = 601; message= JVM not found ) The following exception might be seen during the embedded DB2 Installation. java.lang.nullpointerexception at com.installshield.managingdevice.event.dialog.swing. PanelDB2_das_user.checkedISRadioButtonDef9(PanelDB2_das_user.java:202) java.lang.nullpointerexception at com.installshield.managingdevice.event.dialog.swing. PanelDB2_fence_user.checkedControl107(PanelDB2_fence_user.java:180) java.lang.nullpointerexception at com.installshield.managingdevice.event.dialog.swing. PanelDB2_instance_user.checkedControl110(PanelDB2_instance_user.java:200) v To view WSAM, if the user s language is English, the default browser resolution should be set to 1024X768. For all other languages, the browser resolution should be set to 1280X1024. v When the browser language is set to Simplified Chinese, Chinese input is not accepted. To fix this problem, please make the following change: In $WAS_HOME/properties/encoding.properties, edit the property for zh by changing zh=gb2312 to zh=utf-8. Restart the server in order for the change to take effect. v There is an inconsistency between the English version of msg.properties and msg_jsp. properties and the corresponding files in other languages. These differences will cause users to see different instructions and error messages on the Installed Binary Comparison page. 1. For the English version of the Installed Binary Comparison page, a user will see the instructional text as: The Installed Binary Comparison page is where you set up a comparison of binary files on application servers. From a group, select a server as the authoritative server. Then select up to 5 servers for comparison to the authoritative server. 2. In the English version of the Binary Comparison page, a user will see the error messages: CYNVE0446E: Select up to 5 Comparison Servers. CYNVE0448E: Select up to 5 servers for comparison. 3. For all other languages on this page, a user will see 10 instead of 5 in place of the number of servers for comparison. Only a maximum of 5 servers are supported for Installed Binary Comparision. v At times, idle time can be negative for Recent Requests in the Server Activity Display page. This may happen if the actual CPU time taken for the request is very small, and Operating System resolutions might be different for Resident time (wall clock) and CPU Time (cpu clock). v Thread dump is not encouraged as a trap action in a production environment, it can impose latency on trap actions, and drive high CPU usage on the Data Collector and Managing Server. v For WSAM SNMP messages, non-ascii characters are not supported for Trap Names. v The Managing Server supports Global Security=on. What the Managing Server does not support is SSL connections to the WSAM VE (which can be used regardless of whether Global Security=on.) Data Collector Release notes 5

12 Documentation v During the WebSphere Data Collector Installation, two variables called AM_HOME and MS_AM_HOME are created in a variables.xml file located under <WAS Installation Directory>/config/cells/<cell name>/nodes/<node name>/servers/<server name>. You must delete these two variables when you do the manual uninstallation of the Data Collector. v If you are using Exceed to run the installation then you might not see the last panel after the installation is done. This should not cause any problem except that the installer will exit after it is done. This is caused due to a bug in the jre. You can use jre x to avoid this problem. v Add the following line in a batch script Installer-DC/bin/install-DC.bat before running the silent Data Collector installer on windows. copy %CYN_TEMP%\dcInputs.txt %CYN_TEMP%\org_dcInputs.txt Put the above line right before the following line (you can search for the word SilentValidation to go to this line ). %JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe -DCOBRAND= %COBRAND_1% -DCYN_WIN_LOG= %CYN_WIN_LOG% -Dcyanea.log.properties=%CYN_TEMP%\\log-validation-win1.properties -classpath %CL ASSPATH% com.cyanea.validation.silentvalidation -dc %CYANEA_LOG_DIR%\\dcInputs.txt updates This section contains documentation updates for the Managing Server and the Data Collector. Managing Server Installation and Customization Guide updates: v All instances of monitoring and performance management should be changed to monitoring and performance analysis. v The update is located in Part 2: The Managing Server Installation,Chapter 3: Installation and Configuration, Section: Upgrading Considerations>Migrating Data>Performing a Migration. The third step says: Execute data migration scripts. You should be logged in as amuser. Execute SQL script: (The change is in parenthesis.) For Oracle databases, go to Oracle database server: sqlplus <am database user name>/<am database user password>@<am ORACLE_SID>@$AM_HOME/etc/migratetables-oracle.sql >$AM_HOME/logs/migratedb.log v The update is located in Part 2: The Managing Server Installation, Chapter 4: Customization, Section: Configuring Managing Server for Multiple Network Cards and NAT. Step one should be as follows: On the Managing Server side, in setenv.sh (in <MS_AM_HOME>/bin/), set the KERNEL_HOST01 and KERNEL_HOST02 to the internal IP address of the Managing Server. IMS Data Collector Product Guide updates: All instances of performance management should be changed to performance analysis. Data Collector User s Guide updates: 6 IBM Tivoli WebSphere Studio Application Monitor: Release Notes

13 v The update is located in Chapter 20 regarding configuring request mapper. The property name should be com.cyanea.mapper.http.userid.source instead of com.cyanea.mapper.userid.source. v The update is located in Chapter 20 regarding configuring request mapper. The request mapper library should be placed in <AM_DC_HOME>/lib/ext/ directory instead of in the classpath of the JVM.
