1 Module A points In Module A compe.tors will create a prototype design for a web site page or page(s) Task Overview Compe.tors will be provided with a set of parameters and digital materials to use in construc.ng a mockup of a web site page or page(s). Side Note There will be a People s Choice award for the designs where the public will be able to vote for their favourites. The result of this public evalua.on will not have any impact on the evalua.on of the projects by the judges. 1

Although the restaurant specializes primarily in seafood dishes they also pride themselves in the high quality of their steaks, sides and desserts. They also maintain a expansive selec.

2 Project Specifica/ons Client: The Seawall Grill Descrip.on: The Seawall Grill is a gourmet seafood restaurant catering to the discrimina.ng diner. The restaurant is situated in an urban seing yet it affords views of the Pacific Ocean to customers from its main dining room. Although the restaurant specializes primarily in seafood dishes they also pride themselves in the high quality of their steaks, sides and desserts. They also maintain a expansive selec.on of fine vintages. Logo: Logo Fonts: Abadi MT Condensed Light Perpetua Titling MT Colour Scheme Specified by Client: In addition to white (#FFFFFF), the client wishes to adhere to the above colour scheme in order to be consistent with their established brand. The prominence of the colours is not specified and so is up to the designer. Variations in opacity (transparency are permitted so long as they do not deviate significantly from the given scheme. 2

The design should convey the description of the client given above. Specified text must appear on the required page(s). If the designer wishes to add text that they think will complement the design they are permitted to do so, although the degree to which these additions are successful will be determined by the judges. Examples of the types of images that might be provided: In addition to the array of optional images, competitors will be provided with a copy of the logo as an Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file. Manipulation of the logo colours is permitted so long as the colour scheme is adhered to. 4

5 Module B points Evaluation You will have to create a template utilizing HTML, CSS and Javascript that will work with either Joomla or WordPress. You will be provided with a standard install of Joomla and WordPress with standard content install. You will also be provided with PSD files of what the template will look like when you have completed the design. Requirements CMS Requirements: Works with Joomla 2.5+ or WordPress 3.4+ Ability to add, remove and edit menu items Ability to add pages Ability to add modules to different module locations Figure 1 - See: Field_House_Mockup- MAIN_initial_release.pdf Template Requirements: Will adjust when extra content is added to a page. Will look the same as the image provided. Will have the same module positions as the template module location names. End Result At the end, you should have a complete template that can be used with any Joomla or WordPress installation. More Information The template must work in the latest versions of IE and Chrome. 5

6 Module C points Evaluation You will have to modify a simple MVC structure by adapting the controller, the model and the view to integrate a new page to a php/mysql application. You will be provided with a functional MVC structure connected to a mysql database. Requirements Ability to code with PHP/mySQL Ability to integrate PHP with HTML Ability to manipulate a MVC structure End Result The new page: o will be accessed by the menu o will interact with the database o will interact with session variables More Information The new page will display and modify an existing database 6

7 Module D Speed Tests points Create a PHP script as fast as possible that will solve a given integration problem. The problem might be: a syntax error, a logic error, or simply, to conceive a solution to an algorithmic problem. It will consist of finding a solution that is optimized and well structured. Evaluation The competitor will be evaluated on the number of solved problems that they can do in a 30 minute time span. The problems won t be given out ahead of time. 8 Module E - JavaScript points Evaluation You will be given a pre-built HTML page that is already styled using CSS. You will also have a mini API that will be built with PHP and that connects to an already installed MySQL database. You will have to create the JavaScript to add functionalities on the page, without refreshing the page. You will be provided with jquery, Prototype and Mootools. You can use any of the three, or use native JavaScript. A task consists of the creation date, the modification date and the content. The API has three main functions. See the API calls section of this document for details. Requirements The calls to the API functions should be done using AJAX Your application should be able to : Add a new task Delete a task With JavaScript confirmation Modify a task When clicking on a task, you can modify its content dynamically Display the tasks using AJAX in a table We should be able to refresh the tasks Animations Add effects that will improve the user experience End Result At the end, you should have a fully working task system that works in both Internet Explorer and Chrome, the latest versions. The system should be publicly available to anyone (no authentication). API Calls Here is the list of API calls you can do on the tasks. 8
