EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This document outlines the Market Insight (MI) features that are scheduled to be released to production in November, The key functional areas affected by this release are: Storyboards now include Data Grids: The Storyboard feature, which allows you to add and curate a sequence of visualizations for output to PDF and sharing in Market Insight Orbit, has now been improved and includes Data Grids. Improvements to Mapping visualizations: The way data is presented on Maps has been improved so that it is clearer and more detailed. Numerous upgrades to Orbit: Market Insight Orbit enhancements include a simplified UI experience for sharing a collection, collection lists, and a better mobile experience. 1.1 Target Audience This document is intended for all users of Market Insight. FEATURES This section outlines the new features and improvements to Market Insight. 2.1 Storyboards Now Include Data Grids The Storyboard feature, which allows you to add and curate a sequence of visualizations for output to PDF and sharing in Market Insight Orbit, has now been improved and includes Data Grids. The Data Grids can be added, removed, previewed and output to PDF or Word just like the other visualizations. This new feature adds more depth to the types of stories and level of detail that can be shared in Storyboards and from Orbit. This enables you to ultimately create richer and more detailed reports. When the Data Grid is viewed from within the Market Insight UI it will show as its actual size. Once the images have been output they will show as a clipped version to fit to the page that the image has been output on. This ensures a neater and tidier visualization output. Page 4 of 11

5 2.2 Storyboard Visualization Improvements Previously when you created visualizations and then added them to the Storyboard, the preview version would show a clipped version of the visualization one that mirrored what would be shown on an A4 output page in a PDF etc. This has now been amended so that the preview mode will show the non-clipped version providing a full view of the object. Note that output will still be clipped when prepared for an A4 page in a PDF or Word document. The unclipped view is in preparation for showing the full visualization in Market Insight Orbit. 2.3 Mapping Visualizations Improvements The way data is presented on Maps has been improved so that it is clearer and more detailed. You can now define the color of pins by a variable. So, for example, you could plot all of the customers who had purchased a certain product and then break this down by Industry Category, so that the pins will be shaded according to industry type. Simply add the variable that you wish to shade by to the additional variable section on the Layer tab of the Map. Once you have run the Map you can select to shade the pins by choosing the additional variable from the dropdown under the Color option in the Layers panel on the lefthand side. Page 5 of 11

6 You can now choose user defined colors for shaded areas, as well as shaded area labelling control and shaded area border line color control. In the Layers box you are now able to alter the size of each pin. For example, if pins overlap because there is a concentration in one area, you may wish to reduce their size. Page 6 of 11

7 A further refinement of the Mapping tool is the ability to alter the opacity of a layer or the opacity of the pins, which can be done by a slider bar in the Layers box also. This enables more than one layer to be seen on the map concurrently. Search points are locations that you will have found through the Search function (which is accessible via a right click on the map) and will now be included in the saved version of a map. Previously this data would have been lost upon saving the item. Selections made on the map are also now saved, as are drive time areas created on the map. The mapping tool has now also been redeveloped to use the new Microsoft Bing REST API improving efficiencies. 2.4 New Scheduled Tasks A scheduled task can now be set to run when a file is created or updated. This trigger allows a virtual variable to be updated when the file is updated. The virtual variable must have been created using the Import Data Wizard. This has taken what was a manual process and made it much more efficient. Page 7 of 11

2.5 New Expression Functions This release sees 11 new expression functions added: RankCoeff(a,b, ) where each parameter is a number or a date calculates the Spearman Rank Coefficient of a set of

RankSequence(a,b, ) where each parameter is a number or a date returns a value indicating the sequence of the values (always increasing/decreasing with/without ties, equal or no order).

8 2.5 New Expression Functions This release sees 11 new expression functions added: RankCoeff(a,b, ) where each parameter is a number or a date calculates the Spearman Rank Coefficient of a set of values. This returns a value in the range -1 (always down) to 1 (always up). RankSequence(a,b, ) where each parameter is a number or a date returns a value indicating the sequence of the values (always increasing/decreasing with/without ties, equal or no order). This is used in drag-offs from the Segmentation Elapsed Time processing. 3 Basic Trigonometric Functions: sin(n), cos(n), tan(n) 3 Inverse Trigonometric Functions: asin(n), acos(n), atan(n) 3 Hyperbolic Trigonometric Functions: sinh(n), cosh(n), tanh(n) Expression Improvements The { symbol in the expression parser now gives an intellisense (i.e., autocomplete) list of cubes/queries. This is useful as it means that queries/cubes can be referenced multiple times in a single expression making it simpler and quicker to write expressions. Page 8 of 11

9 2.6 Market Insight Orbit The Q release of Market Insight incorporates a wide range of new features and improvements for Orbit. Orbit does not follow the same release timetable as the other products as it is updated iteratively at regular points throughout each quarter. We will include a summary of these updates in the release notes for reference but some of these items may already be available in the UI Collection View The UI and functionality has been improved: Title, description, and activity history are now in a collapsible panel. Activity history is now immediately available. A basic grid layout has been created to allow up to 3 columns of charts which allows you to change it as you view it. A presentation mode has been included to allow users in meetings to demonstrate on large screens. This can be easily accessed from the range of options at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. A basic print function which currently supports portrait view printing with a single chart on each page is now available. Page 9 of 11

10 Navigating between collections has been made easier. You can now go to the next or previous collection from within a collection that is being viewed. This removes the step to go back to the full list of collections Sharing a Collection The UI and experience for sharing a collection has been simplified: By providing instructions at the right moment. By a lighter and more succinct visual style. There is an easier view of people you have currently shared with Collection Lists Collection title length has been increased to allow more than two lines. Collection descriptions are condensed if too long. Login page has version number which links to the known issues page. Account UI has been updated to be simpler and provide instructions and errors when appropriate and required On Mobile Search and filters have been split following usability tests, where users wanted to search instantly for their collections. Navigation has changed to make it more mobile friendly and always and immediately accessible improving the device independent nature of the tool. Page 10 of 11

11 2.6.5 Other The UI is now built using Angular 4 making the download time of the Orbit application faster to the client browser. You can t change your address to one that another user is using. The API and UI version numbers are now reported on the Known Issues page. This will be useful information for Administrators. The API now has a configuration tool for editing the appsettings.json file. The Updater now has a configuration tool for editing the Updater.exe.config file.
