Chapters 1. Overview Getting started Step wise guide to code generator
Overview Introduction PrimeTurning is a new methodology which enables you to do turning in all directions in much more efficient and productive way as compared to conventional turning. This concept is comprised of a new turning method, dedicated CoroTurn Prime tools and a code generator. PrimeTurning code generator is the online software that supplies programming codes and techniques to set up proper parameters and variables for a particular application. It secures correct tool path, entry into work piece, giving optimal productivity when performing PrimeTurning. It s easy to use, speeds up your operations and planning processes in turn securing maximum performance and longer tool life. What does it do? Software that supplies programming codes (ISO) and techniques for a particular application Handles open contours in longitudinal turning Creates a secure entry into the part Creates constant h ex (chip thickness) Benefits Allows for smooth implementation of PrimeTurning method and CoroTurn Prime tools Speeds up your operations and planning processes Ensures process security and maximizes output Ensures that critical parts are made correctly Secures correct tool path, giving optimal productivity and tool life Provides automatic storage of your designed component profiles Compatible with various CNC machines using ISO codes Three ways to use This software is easy to use and has three different ways to input the actual turned profile Copy-paste existing NC-code Describe it with a G71 (common roughing cycle) programming cycle Draw the profile in visual mode With these methods you will have a fast and effective way to reprogram your existing component. 2
Getting started Step 1: After buying the subscription from Sandvik Coromant website you will receive a confirmation as seen below. Step 2: There are two options; 1. Install PrimeTurning and 2. Open PrimeTurning web site. First option will install a Windows shortcut to access code generator through your desktop and second option will take you to a code generator web page. Choose one of the options. Step 3: Install PrimeTurning -If you choose this option then you will be prompted to download an installation file. Click on Install. 3
Enter the (same used to purchase subscription) to create an account. Note: Your password must be at least 8 characters and contain at least one number, special character and an uppercase character. Open PrimeTurning web site - If you this option then you will arrive on the registration page as seen below. Please fill in your (same used to purchase subscription) and set the password. After filling in the details click on Register button. Note: Your password must be at least 8 characters and contain at least one number, special character and an uppercase character. You will receive below after the user account gets created. 4
Step 4: Follow the instruction given in to confirm your address. You will see below message immediately after confirmation. Step 5: Please login to code generator after completing the registration process. After logging in to code generator you will arrive on the Start window as seen below. 5
Step wise guide to code generator Start window In start window, click on Create new code to generate a new profile. 1 Creating a new profile 1.0 : Component / tooling information Step 1: Create the new profile name Step 2: Choose the unit of measurement Step 3: Choose the stock material (round bar or preformed blank) Step 4: Choose the material group to calculate correct power consumption Step 5: Choose the insert type
1.1 Machining configuration Step 6: Set Cycle safe point, a position that tool will go with rapid movement before the machining starts. For e.g. diameter of blank + 5mm (.1969 ) and + 5mm outside of the longitude zero point Step 7: Choose depth of cut (a p ) Step 8: Set retraction, the radial value that will define the tool position for the next cut. Step 9: Select U & W allowance Define depth of cut for finishing cut (X & Z). Note: On a taper it will be larger depth of cut. Step 10: Choose main feed (f n ) Step 11: Choose in-feed for entry (max 0.35mm/rev (0.0138"/rev)) Step 12: Choose cutting speed (v c ) Step 13: Set Cycle start point (X & Z)
Step 14: In this step there are three ways to input the actual turned profile Option 1: Copy-paste existing NC-code Describe finish profile to be generated with conventional direction: 1. Copy G71 finish profile description using existing CNC code 2. Paste in the profile description 3. Press Preview to view profile and tool path Option 2: Describe it with a G71 (common roughing cycle) programming cycle. 1. Describe X/Z end points of component. Example using coordinate graph G1 X40 Z0 Z-30 X60 Z Press Preview to view profile and tool path Option 3: Describe finish profile to be generated with conventional direction 1. Describe segments of finish profile using navigation buttons Input will be incremental No negative sign on Z inputs First entry from cycle start point 2. Press Preview to view profile and tool path 1 2 8
Step 15: View the profile Study the profile and tool paths: 1. Check whether the profile looks ok, if not then click on back to make changes 2. Check if the suggested power consumption can be handled by your machine 3. Scroll down to view the complete code 4. Copy code and paste in the program 5. Save code as.eia (text file) 1.2: Result Example of code that will be produced from the code generator G0 X110.0 Z5.0 G96 S300 (*** START OF ROUGHING SEQUENCE ***) G0 X Z0.003 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G96 S300 (*** START OF PROFILING SEQUENCE ***) G0 X Z0.003 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.4 G1 X Z F0.4 G1 X Z F0.207 G1 X Z F0.4 G1 X Z F0.267 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G1 X Z0.002 F0.4 G0 X Z0.004 (*** END OF PROFILING G1 X100.0 Z F0.4 G1 X60.0 Z-80.0 F0.207 G1 X60.0 Z-60.0 F0.4 G1 X40.0 Z-30.0 F0.267 G1 X40.0 Z0.0 F0.4 G1 X40.0 Z0.0 F0.4 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.003 (*** END OF FINISHING SEQUENCE ***) G0 X110.0 Z5.0 Code description G0 X110.0 Z5.0 G96 S300 (*** START OF ROUGHING SEQUENCE ***) G0 X Z0.003 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 G3 X Z R3.0 F0.1 G1 X Z0.001 F0.4 G0 X Z0.002 G0 X Z G1 X Z F0.1 CNC G codes G00 - Positioning at rapid speed G01 - Linear interpolation G02 - Circular interpolation clockwise G03 - Circular interpolation, counter clockwise G96 - Constant cutting speed G97 - Constant spindle speed CNC Code description 9 X - Absolute diameter value Z - Absolute length value U - Incremental diameter value W - Incremental length value R - Radius value S - Spindle speed F - Feed rate
