4 Taking this course This book contains the information presented in the media versions of the lessons in a readable format. This allows you to follow along with the lessons and take notes. This course book can be used as a teaching resource later. Each lesson includes a video presentation and course book; all videos are interactive. If you choose to use the course book instead of the lesson video presentation, please read each lesson separately. After reading a lesson, log on to Link and Learn to take the quiz associated with that lesson. You have three attempts pass the lesson quiz. Update form entries in Classic Mode. About Classic Mode 3 Classic Mode TaxWise Online offers the ability to use a slower connection to the Internet under the Classic Mode option. The auto refresh feature is disabled when typing data while in Classic Mode. Classic Mode is useful if you experience slow loading form, slow page refresh rates, and the program generally seem sluggish. These conditions are symptomatic when using an Internet connection lower than 800 kilobits (kbps) per second. Classic Mode Functionality Classic Mode does not incorporate all of the functionality that the Default Mode does. Login as the Admin user name or any user assigned the administrator role. 2. Click the Settings icon. 3. Click the Advanced option. 4. Select the Use Classic Mode to Display Tax Returns check box. 5. Click the Save and Close button to save the settings. Using the Calculator in Classic Mode With a return open in TaxWise Online, click the Calculator icon. TaxWise Online allows you to copy the total to any direct input field. Copying Calculations to Form Fields To copy totals from the calculator to direct input fields in TaxWise Online, use the following steps: 1. Click the Calculator icon on the toolbar. 2. Type calculations. 3. Click the Copy to Clipboard button. 4

7 4. If the Internet Explorer window displays, click the Allow access button. This dialog box may or may not display depending on your internet setting. 5. In the selected entry field, click in the field highlighting any existing numbers 6. Right-click and click Paste 5

8 Printing Return in Classic Mode To print an open return, follow these steps: 1. Click the Print Return icon on the toolbar. 2. TaxWise Online displays a dialog box stating that A PDF for the return has been generated. Select the Open in a new window link, to open the return. 6

9 TaxWise Online displays the PDF of the return. Linking to Forms in Classic Mode TaxWise Online allows you to link to an associated form in an entry. The Link icon displays when an active entry can be linked to another form. To link to another form, click the entry and click the Link icon. 7

10 TaxWise Online displays the list of available forms. Form Entry Updating in Classic Mode To update calculations in the return use either of the options below: Click the Save Return icon on the toolbar Press the CRTL+R shortcut keys to refresh the return. 8
