1 A PGI LIBRARY TUTORIAL EBSCOHOST DATABASES Part III III. SAVING AND ING SEARCH RESULTS AND SEARCHES ing results From the results page, click on the article title as shown below. Once you display the article record, click on the icon as seen below. 1

2 Next, type in your address and select what to include when sending. Saving articles in folders Once you have conducted a search, you can save articles and search strategies in folders for later use. To do this, you will need to Sign In to My EBSCOhost. You will then be taken to a sign-in screen. To create an account, click on Create A New Account. 2

3 Now, fill in the boxes to establish an account and click submit. Account setup tips You can use a pseudonym, if you desire, for your first and last names. The user name and password should be uniquely your own; they should not be the same as the institutional user name/password for signing into EBSCOhost itself. Write down your personal user name and password (and any other important information) so that you don t forget them. 3

4 Once you ve created your account, you will be able to save articles. To do so, click on the Add to folder links found below each article you d like to add. In order to see the items in your folder, click on Folder view at side of screen or Folder at top of screen. 4

5 View of My Folder These items will remain in your main folder until you move them to another folder. To create a new folder just for these items, click on New. Then name your folder, write comments, if desired, in the Notes section, and Save. 5

6 Now you can move your files from the main folder (My Folder) to the new folder (ADOLESCENT GRIEF). Articles have now been moved to the new folder. 6

7 Saving search strategies You can also save your search strategies. To do so, return to the results screen, by using the Back button. Then click on the Search History/Alerts link. 7

8 You will now see the searches you have performed during your current session on EBSCOhost. In this case, we have performed three searches. To save these searches, click on the link Save Searches/Alerts. You will now be taken to a page asking you to name your search and to save it as a permanent search, a temporary search, or an alert. An alert is a type of search that EBSCOhost will run every time a database included in your search profile is updated. New records that meet your search criteria will then be ed to you. 8

9 When you return to your search screen, your saved searches will now appear above your article results. 9

10 And when you return to your folder, you will see that your search has been saved in the Saved searches folder. You can then use these saved search strategies in later EBSCOhost sessions. III. SIGNING OUT OF EBSCOHOST DON T FORGET TO SIGN OUT! 10

The database service also provides useful information at its support site, a link to which is located at the bottom of every EBSCOhost page. In addition to EBSCOhost, the library subscribes to two other database services, LexisNexis (on campus only) and SAGE Premier (available off-campus with institutional username and password ask at Circulation Desk for this information). And your local public library, the Los Angeles Public Library, also provides access to useful databases, such as Research Library ProQuest. Last, if your instructor approves, you can try Google Scholar for full-text scholarly articles on your topic and PubMed (National Library of Medicine) for citations and some full-text material.
