1 PC-DMIS Requirements A: File Format The instructions for saving a text file from PC-DMIS depends on the version of PC-DMIS you are using. Versions 4+: There are three settings that may need adjusted. The following information is taken from the PC-DMIS manuals to help guide you through the process to output a compliant report from PC-DMIS. A compliant output from PC-DMIS is a text (RTF) file using the Text Mode Dimension Reporting. Setting #1: Print to a file, as an RTF (from the PC-DMIS 4.3 Manual, page 59) Selecting the File Printing Report Print Setup menu option will display the Report Print Options dialog box. Make sure you select File (designate path), with the AUTO option ON, and Rich Text Format (RTF) option ON. Setting #2: Turn off RTF Converter (from the PC-DMIS 4.3 Manual, page 62) Require an RTF file, without the RTF converter. When the Rich Text Format (RTF) option is selected, PCDMIS generates the report using the Microsoft Rich Text Format (.rtf file) for interchanging documents. By default, PCDMIS generates RTF reports using an Amyuni RTF converter. This essentially orders information inside several text boxes inside the RTF file. To remove the RTF converter: 1. Close down PCDMIS. 2. Launch the PCDMIS Settings Editor. 3. Inside the Settings Editor, expand the Printing section, and find the DoNotUseAmyuniRTF setting. 4. Set the Current Value to 1, click Save Setting, and click OK. Note: This setting only works if the RTF output is done using the File Printing Report Window Print Setup menu option. If you have inserted a PRINT/REPORT command (Insert Report Command Print Command) and you want that command to generate your RTF output, set the value to Restart PCDMIS.

2 Setting #3: Text Only format (from the PC-DMIS 4.3 Manual, page ) The Report Window displays your measurement results. Selecting View Report Window, displays the Report window. If using report templates, this window, after part program execution, displays your measurement results and automatically configures the output according to a default report template. You can set any report template as the default report template, but initially PCDMIS uses the "TEXTONLY.RTP" template. Report Window showing a standard, textbasedreport from TEXTONLY.RPT Right click on any textonly reporting text or white space at the end of the Report window and then select the Edit Object... menu item when the shortcut menu appears. The Report dialog box opens (available with template reporting) and lets you determine the overall information PCDMIS will include in the Report window and how it should be displayed. Click ON SHOW, ALL Dimensions and Use Text Mode Dimension Reporting. As well, click OFF Show Features, Show Alignments, and Show Screen Captures. Click ON Show Comments, and if prefered Show Header/Footer.

3 Report dialog box Versions 3.7: 1. Select EDIT - PREFERENCES - EDIT WINDOW LAYOUT menu option. The EDIT WINDOW LAYOUT dialog box opens. 2. Select the REPORT tab. 3. Click ON the following options: SHOW COMMENTS, SHOW HEADER/FOOTER. 4. Click ON in the Dimensions area SHOW ALL. 5. Click ON USE TEXT MODE DIMENSION REPORTING. B: Column Header Identification Including a column header is good practice for easy identification of what the values represent. PC- DMIS automatically includes the column header. A default column name is included in the import template to match the default from PC-DMIS. If you change the default names or don t include the column header, the template will need to be adapted to match your file format convention. 4 C: Axes Identification All AXIS used will need to be defined in the settings. Axes are listed in the appropriate measurement type. For example, all angle axis identifiers need to be listed, separated by a comma in the Angle Axes box. Example 2: Axes List PC-DMIS reports many different types of measurement as an M axis. M can represent a linear dimension, or a GD&T feature. GD&T, or unilateral features need to be recognized and treated differently for analysis and statistics. Example 3: M Axes The following settings need to be added to discern the difference between a linear and GD&T measurement for M axis. Example 4: M Axes Settings 1. Click ON the option to EXTRACT MEAS TYPE INFO FOR M AXIS. Selecting this option, instructs Step Ahead to also look at the feature name information from the CMM output file to determine what type of measurement is being reported. 2. In the Measurement Types area, enter the feature identification that is reported in PC-DMIS after the dimension id into the appropriate measurement type area. For example, PC-DMIS reports DIM FLAT1= FLATNESS, enter FLATNESS into the flatness area.

5 3. PC-DMIS, rather than leaving the +tol empty, inserts for the unilateral dimensions. To ensure unilateral features are treated as unilateral list them in the UNILATERAL MEASUREMENT TYPE THAT SHOW PLUS TOL AS ZERO. Enter each feature name, separated by a comma. D: Automatic Balloon Recognition from CMM File For a balloon number to be automatically identified, a comment line for the feature will need to be added that follow this simple comma delimited format: [ITEM ID, AXIS, MEASUREMENT NOTE(optional), SPECIFICATION NOTE(optional)] Examples: [ITEM 3] [ITEM 12,,,TP 0.5m A B C ] [ITEM 12,TP,AT 18.0 DIM. (ITEM 1),TP0.5m Am 2 PLACES] 1. The first location is to identify the item (balloon) number from your drawing. Must be identified with the word item (e.g. ITEM 12). 2. The second location is to identify which axis the item number relates to (e.g. TP). The second location is OPTIONAL only when just one axis exists for a feature. 3. The third location is to identify any notes you want conveyed in your report for the measurement result - i.e. the actual (e.g. AT 18.0 DIM. (ITEM 1). The third location is OPTIONAL. 4. The fourth location is to identify any notes you want conveyed in your report for the specification - i.e. nominal information - plus any GD&T feature control frames you want reported. The fourth location is OPTIONAL. Example 5: Compatible Format with Balloons Note: A period can be used in front of the Balloon identification bracket to carry the balloon id forward. In the example above, Item 17 will be applied to both DIST1 and DIST2.

6 E: Beginning of Measurement in CMM File If you included job information at the top of your CMM output file, it is best practice to ensure there is a blank line separating job information from the beginning of measurement data. Example 6: Blank Line Between Job Information and Measurements F: GDT Bonus in CMM File Any bonus identified in the CMM output file will be automatically retrieved, and included in the calculations for determining if the position is in or out of tolerance.
