1 Excel2MDB Importer Documentation This documentation, and Excel2MDB, is solely purposed for the cloud-based usage of labfolder. If your organization runs labfolder through an installed local server, please the Tech Support found at the bottom of this document for a version of Excel2MDB compatible with your local server. Summary Excel2MDB Importer is a software that enables the user to bulk import items directly from values specified in an Excel file into predefined categories in the Material Database (MDB). This documentation describes in detail how you can operate the Excel2MDB.exe in Windows. The software prompts for several input parameters which include the labfolder credentials, the target destination for the items located in the excel file, and the excel file and spreadsheet to be used for scheme definition. Excel2MDB maps and imports values from an excel file into the user-selected MDB categories of labfolder s ELN, according to the privileges of the authorised user. Prior to importing an excel sheet into a labfolder Material Database, the Material Database has to be created in labfolder first, together with a category and the attributes. The mapping of Excel entities and labfolder entities is as follows: Material Database -> Excel file Category -> Excel Sheet Attribute -> Column in Excel Sheet Item -> Row in Excel Sheet The software described in this documentation imports one Excel Sheet into one labfolder MDB category at a time, where the different columns in the Excel Sheet can be mapped to attributes in the category, and one item is added for every row in the Excel Sheet.

2 Starting the Excel2MDB.exe Double-click the Excel2MDB.exe or run it from the command line. Entering parameters Authentication Excel2MDB will prompt you for your labfolder credentials ( , password). After entering the correct username and password and pressing the Login button, the program will proceed to the next step. If you entered the wrong credentials, the entered fields will clear and you have to enter the credentials again. Select Target MDB and Target Category Excel2MDB will list all MDBs that are related to your account in a dropdown menu. Select the MDB within which you would like to bulk import items.

3 After selecting the appropriate MDB, select the desired Target Category you would like to import the values into from the 2nd dropdown menu, as shown below. After selecting a both a target MDB and Category, press the Next >> button to proceed to the next step. Select File Press the Choose file button to select an excel file which contains your Items for import. After selecting an excel file from your hard drive, select the worksheet which contains the input scheme.

4 Select the worksheet from the file that contains the data you would like to import into the MDB. When you have selected a worksheet with a matching format, press the Next >> button. Category Mapping On the next page you will see the different Categories that exist within the selected MDB. You are to map the categories from the Excel columns with the Categories from the MDB. You are only able to map those categories where the data type matches the Excel columns (e.g. the MDG Name category is a Text, and so can only be matched with the Text column in Excel, which in this case is also the Name category). Once the fields are mapped, click Import MDB to import the data from the spreadsheet into the MDB in your ELN. After the data has been successfully imported, a message will appear.
