Quick Guide Table of Contents Contents 1.0 Forward Configuring any COM port to be COM Installation of GUI Software Setup Local ERM-MUX-Plus Addressing for GUI over Serial Setup Remote ERM-MUX-Plus Addressing for GUI over Serial Setup GUI over Serial Setup ERM-MUX-Plus Addressing for GUI over IP/SNMP Setup GUI over IP/SNMP GUI Operation Brief
1.0 Forward This guide will help with the initial installation and connection/configuration of the Window's based GUI software program. This guide was executed and captured on a Asus (Core-2 Duo E4600/4GB) with Windows 7 Professional, 64bit, SP1. User Account Control (UAC) was reduced to minimum. Firewall was disabled. If using a laptop without a hardware based serial port, a USB to RS-232 serial adapter can be used. The port should be configured as COM1 (procedure follows). This step is probably not necessary, but it was done as a number of programs that use serial ports will default to COM1. Since only one COM port is available on most PCs and Laptops, it is not possible to use both Console port (Local Ctrl) and NMS port (NM Ctrl) simultaneously. So, following this guide, do the local console configuration first. Then switch to the NM Ctrl port when instructed. Connect the PC's serial port with 1:1 cable directly to ERM-MUX/Plus CPU card's serial port labeled "LOC Ctrl". 1.1 Configuring any COM port to be COM1 This example was done on Windows 7 Professional. Open the "Device Manager" and find the communication ports. Open the ports to see the installed hardware. In the example above, there is a USB Serial Port as COM5. Right click it and select "Properties". 3
From the Properties window, click the "Advanced" button. Adjust the COM port number from the pull down menu, then click "OK". 4
The COM port is now configured as COM1. 5
1.2 Installation of GUI Software Find the installation setup program and double-click it. The GUI software is a 32bit program. Under 64 bit OS, it will run in WOW (windows on windows). The installation folder would then be the Program Files (x86) folder, rather than in just Program Files. Click the "Next" button. 6
The following message may or may not be displayed. Just click 'OK' to ignore it. Click "Finish" after the software is installed. 7
