Windows Network This document explains how to apply the Read Naturally Software Edition 2.

1 Windows Network This document explains how to apply the Read Naturally Software Edition update to existing installations of SE version 2.0, 2.0.1, or First update the SE server software, and then update each workstation where the SE client software is installed. Separate instructions are provided for the following types of installations: Windows network installations (Windows servers and clients) Macintosh network client installations (Mac OS X and Mac OS 9) Important: It is very important that you backup your data before updating. This is an essential step and is your only insurance should something go wrong. To back up your data: 1. From the Windows computer hosting the SE server software. Start SE database utilities (rnse_dbutilities.exe) from the following location. \Program Files\RNSEServer\RNSEServer\ 2. From the Backup/Restore tab, click Create Backup, and then click Continue. 3. Browse to the folder where you want to save the backup file, select the folder, and then click OK. 4. When the backup is finished, click OK. 5. Click Quit to close the database utilities. Note: If you do not have the SE database utility, it can be downloaded from the following web page: To update the SE server software on Windows computers: 1. Download the installation file RNServer_203_Win.exe from the following web page to the Windows computer hosting the SE server software: 2. Locate the downloaded file on your computer and double-click it. The Read Naturally SE Server Setup screen displays. Click Next. 3. The Welcome screen displays. Click Next. 1

4. The license agreement displays. Read the license agreement (you can click Print to print it), and then click Yes to continue with the upgrade. 5. The Read Naturally SE 2.0.

From the Windows client workstation, locate the installation file

Perform the following steps to confirm that the SE software has been updated: a. Start Read Naturally SE. The login screen displays. b. From the Help menu, choose About Read Naturally. The About window displays. It may take a moment for the About window to display, depending on the number of story levels installed and the speed of your server. 4

c. Confirm that the SE version shown is Version 2.0.3 Client. d.

The Introduction screen displays. Click Continue. 4. The license agreement displays. Read the license agreement (you can click Print to print it), and then click Continue to continue with the upgrade. 5

6 5. To continue the upgrade, you must Agree with the terms of the license agreement. 6. The Read Naturally SE updater automatically locates the existing SE files. Click Install to start the upgrade. A bar shows the installation progress. 7. When the update finishes, click Quit. 6

8. Perform the following steps to confirm that the SE software has been updated: a. Start Read Naturally SE. The login screen displays. b. Choose About Read Naturally from the Read Naturally SE menu.

Double-click InstallWkstn_Mac-9 to start the upgrade. The Read Naturally SE Setup screen displays. Click Continue. 3. The license agreement displays. Read the license agreement (you can click Print to print it), and then click Accept to continue with the upgrade. 7
