2 Objective Using AC500 to communicate to ACS350 Drive with Modbus This intermediate level course demonstrates how to connect an AC500 PLC to a ACS350. The student will connect ACS350 to a AC500 PLC with provided communication diagrams. The student will also control and monitor ACS350 with provided AC500 program (AC500_ACS350_RTU(ModBus).pro). 6 Drive Setup Procedure ACS350 Drive Settings for Motor and Modbus communication Use motor nameplate data for motor parameters. Use keypad to enter motor and communication parameter settings. View next page for step by step procedure. ABB Inc

7 Drive Setup Procedure Step1: Go to drive menu and select ASSISTANTS Select Enter Step2: Select Start-up Assistant Select SEL to go into assistant When Prompted if you want to use start-up assistant select Yes and click Ok. Step3: Follow Parameter Tree to enter correct settings on the following pages. Notice number scheme for example: Parameter 9908 breaks down to Group 99 Parameter 08. Each parameter can be changed using the up and down arrows, click Save to store it to memory. Exit can be selected at any time to go back one menu. ABB Inc

8 Drive Setup Procedure START-UP ASSISTANT Click on Save to continue after each parameter set to ENGLISH click Save to go to next parameter set to 220V click Save to go to next parameter 9906-set to 0.7A click Save to go to next parameter set to 60Hz click Save to go to next parameter set to 1660RPM click Save to go to next parameter To Go Back one step click on Exit and start over set to 0.2HP click Save to go to next parameter ABB Inc Do you want to continue with Application setup? PARAMETERS Select Group 10-START/STOP/DIR 1001-EXT1 COMMANDS click Edit set to COMM and click Save Select Group 11-REFERENCE SELECT EXT1/EXT2 SEL click Edit set to EXT 1 and click Save 1103-REF1 SELECT click Edit set to COMM and click Save Select Group 53-EFB PROTOCOL 5302-EFB STATION ID click Edit Set to 47 OR MATCH PLC click Save 5304-EFB PARITY click Edit: Set to 8 EVEN 1 click Save 5303-BAUD RATE click Edit Set to 9.6 KB/S click Save 5305-EFB CTRL PROFILE click edit Set to ABB DRV FULL click Save Select Group 98-OPTIONS ABB Inc APPLIC MACRO click Edit Set to ABB STANDARD click Save COMM PROT SEL click edit set to STD MODBUS click Save Select Group 99-START-UP DATA

13 Drive Setup Procedure Step 5: Before you continue you must be able to control the drive using the keypad. Using Keypad place drive under local control Select start button on keypad Toggle up button until motor ramps up If motor responds to commands then stop drive and place it in remote control. You are now ready to control it via modbus ABB Inc

16 PLC program Step 6: Controlling the Drive from the PLC Place Drive back in remote Place PLC in Run Mode RXD and TXD Green Led s should be flashing green on Drive FMBA-01 Module. Step 7: Using program HMI interface Notice HMI similar to Keypad To initialize and start Drive Click on stop and start indicators. Drive should begin to ramp up ABB Inc

17 PLC program Step 8: Continue with HMI Freq control can be done two different ways Click on Output Freq Hz indicator and it will highlight green Next click on freq percent numerical indicator and a numpad will pop up, enter 50%. Drive will ramp up to 30Hz. ABB Inc

18 PLC program Step 9: Continue with HMI For a finer Freq control Return Output Freq Hz indicator to its original state Click on UP or DOWN indicators to adjust frequency by 0.1Hz ABB Inc

20 Summary The Course provided a quick-start guide to interfacing an AC500 PLC to ACS350 Drive Modbus communication protocol was used to communicate between the AC500 and ACS350 The Modbus protocol linked PLC memory addresses to ACS350 commands and parameters.
