1 4/20/2010 How the Dolphin works: Because Destiny is browser-based, you will need to perform two steps:to get your scans from the Dolphin into Destiny First download the scans from the Dolphin to your workstation using the Dolphin File Transfer utility, and 2nd upload them to Destiny The Dolphin File Transfer utility is a program that transfers the scan files from the Dolphin to the workstation. This should be already installed on your workstation. If you don t have a Dolphin and you need to borrow ours, or if you cannot find the Dolphin Transfer Utility, someone from the IRC will need to come out to install this program. Dolphin File Transfer.lnk Shortcut to dcomm2.lnk Always test prior to needing the Dolphin that everything works. With Dolphin in Base The Com will say DOCKED. What can I use the Dolphin for in Destiny? 2 Scanning For Inventory Scan the barcodes by pressing the ON SCAN key (you'll see the laser beam). Point the beam at the barcode you want to read. When the unit successfully reads the barcode, it will display the name of the symbology and the barcode number. Continue scanning until your section is complete. If any barcodes are damaged but have an eye-readable number, enter these numbers manually : (During inventory pull those books to print replacement barcode later) Press the F1 key to enter Manual Entry. Type in the barcode number. Press SHIFT to change modes From Alpha to Numeric as needed. The current mode appears above the number box on the screen. To enter a number, change to Numeric Mode. To enter a letter, change to Alpha Mode. To enter the first letter next to the number key, press the key once To enter the second letter next to the number key, press the key twice. You have to press this rather quickly. Press BKSP to erase the last character entered. Press ENTER to save the barcode number you manually entered. Press F4 to return to the scanning mode Transferring Scans to the computer To transfer the scan file from the PHD Dolphin+ to your workstation, follow these steps: Make sure your Dolphin is in Alpha Mode. Place the Dolphin in the Home Base. You should see the following message on the Dolphin's screen: You have a LOG file, do you wish to ship it out? 3 Watching the screen the first part of the transfer goes rather quickly. There will be a LONG wait for the second part, be patient. At this point, the utility automatically deletes the scans from the Dolphin. Path to find Dolphin scans to transfer: My Computer C: - program files Dolphin transfer file Dcomm2 (the xfer file is also inside the Dolphin transfer folder this is where the scans are stored and where you will have to browse to) you either have to make a back up file or change the scan file to a different name e.g. scan1 ** YOU CAN ONLY STORE 10 FILES.** Highly recommend once successfully uploaded to Destiny that you erase that file to prevent confusion Transferring Multiple Files to the desktop If you collect additional scans with the Dolphin and wish to transfer another batch to your workstation, before uploading into Destiny you'll receive the following message on your computer after clicking Receive File: SCAN.LOG Dcomm is going to overwrite this file. Do you really want this? Choose Create a backup copy. The utility automatically renames the existing Scan.Log file to Scan.Log.Bak0. If a Scan.Log.Bak0 already exists, it renames it to Scan.Log.Bak1 and Scan.Log file is renamed Scan.Log.Bak0, etc. The higher the number on the file name, the older the Scan.Log file. Important: The utility can rename and save only 10 log files Scan.Log.Bak1 through Scan.Log.Bak9. If you attempt to save more, the utility overwrites the oldest log file. Make sure to upload the files to Destiny promptly and once you are certain that file uploaded correctly please delete that file to avoid confusion. Choosing Abort cancels the file transfer.
