3 1 INTRODUCTION Purpose The E300 USB converter box has internal firmware which can be upgraded to address issues and add additional features. This document will describe the procedure to perform such an upgrade. Scope The instructions contained in this document are relevant to staff, distributers and customers with an E300 USB Instrument. This process should only be done if requested by Medmont to enable new features or address specific problems. Responsibilities and Authorities The Software Development Manager is responsible for reviewing and authorising this document. 4 2 PREPARE PC TO PERFORM UPGRADE 2.1 Close Medmont Studio The firmware upgrade is best performed on a computer with Medmont Studio installed. If Medmont Studio is currently running, please close it before performing the Firmware Upgrade. 2.2 Ensure.NET Framework is installed If the PC being used is running Windows XP and does not have Medmont Studio installed, you may need to install Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 If an error occurs below when running the Upgrade Package please download and install the.net framework from: Unplug the USB cable on the E300 USB converter The USB Converter box ideally should not be plugged in when starting the Upgrade process if possible. 5 3 PERFORM THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE 3.1 Obtain the Firmware Package The firmware package will be on the Medmont website or forum when available. Please download the package to your PC. The package will be named as such: E300 USB Mar exe 3.2 Start the Upgrade Utility Double click on the firmware package to start. The Upgrade Utility window should open shortly. Figure 1: Upgrade Utility If you get an error message and you're using a computer with Medmont Studio or you've already installed Microsoft.NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package, please write down the message and contact Medmont for assistance. 3.3 Plug the USB cable into the E300 USB converter box The upgrade process will start automatically if required. If the E300 USB Firmware is already up to date you will be informed as such. Figure 2: Firmware Up To Date In this case no further action is required and the Upgrade Utility can be closed. Alternately, if you get a Waiting for response please unplug and re-plug in the converter box. P Page 5 of 7

6 3.4 Follow Driver Install prompts If this is the first time an has been performed on this PC the driver installation process should automatically start within a few seconds. 7 3.5 The firmware will be automatically loaded onto the unit At this point the firmware upgrade procedure will start automatically. Figure 5: Firmware Upgrade progress During the first stage: Downloading E300 Upgrade, the Red ERROR light will be lit dimly, this is normal. If the Red light stays lit for over one minute however, please unplug the USB cable, close the Upgrade Utility, and start again. After Performing Upgrade... the Green USB PWR light should flash a few times slowly, then a few fast, before the converter box automatically restarts and the final line will appear as above. If anything appears to go wrong at any stage, it is safe to unplug the USB cable, close the Upgrade Utility, and start again from step: 3.2 Start the Upgrade Utility. 4 E300 USB FIRMWARE UPGRADE IS NOW COMPLETE 4.1 Close Medmont Upgrade Simply click the Red close button in top right hand corner of screen. 4.2 Confirm Operation of E300 USB Start Medmont Studio and open up an E300 Exam to ensure E300 USB is working correctly.
