How to Install Temprecord for Windows Software V5.07 for USB Reader

1 Temprecord International Ltd PO Box Greenmount Auckland, New Zealand Phone Fax How to Install Temprecord for Windows Software V5.07 for USB Reader IMPORTANT: INSTALL TEMPRECORD SOFTWARE FIRST. DO NOT PLUG IN THE USB READER UNTIL SOFTWARE INSTALLATION COMPLETE!! Take the Temprecord Product Support CD and place it into your CD drive. The CD is an autorun CD and contains the 32-bit Temprecord software (version 5.07 or above) that is compatible with Temprecord USB Readers. The CD also contains third party USB drivers that are required for a Temprecord USB Reader to work. After the opening page has loaded, place your mouse pointer over and click on the blue coloured SOFTWARE' link. Next the software page from the CD will open, place your mouse pointer over and click on the blue coloured Temprecord for Windows 32-bit Software link. A dialog window will open that has three choices. They are Run, Save and Cancel. Click on Run to install a 32-bit version of Temprecord for Windows on to your computer. You will need to respond to any other dialogs from the install wizard during the software install process. After Temprecord software installation is complete, plug the USB Reader cable into a spare USB port on your PC. A message (pop-up balloon) will appear at the bottom right corner of your computer screen with message: Found new hardware Temprecord USB Reader. See the example below.

2 After a few moments a Found new hardware Wizard dialog window will open. Select the setting No, not this time then click on Next to go to the following step of the install process. When the next screen of the hardware install wizard opens, select Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click on Next. See the example below.

3 Example of Driver Installation Wizard. The drivers required for a Temprecord USB Reader will now be installed on to your computer. During the Driver Installation, you will see a screen similar to the example on the left. Windows XP will automatically pop up a Windows Logo Testing dialog. To proceed with the installation click on the Continue Anyway button. The pop up dialog will close and the Temprecord USB Reader hardware installation will proceed.

4 When the USB Reader drivers have finished loading another screen called Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard will open. To finish the USB Reader driver installation click on the Finish button. At this stage the Installation is only 75% complete. The "Found New Hardware" Wizard will now continue and go through the Installation of USB Serial Port Drivers on to your computer in order for the Temprecord USB Reader to establish a communication link with your pc. After a few moments a message (Pop-up balloon) appears at the bottom right corner of your computer screen saying Found New Hardware USB Serial Port. See the example to the right. A few seconds after the (Pop-up balloon) above has disappeared another (Pop-up balloon) will appear in the lower left corner of the computer screen for a few seconds before disappearing. The message will read Found New Hardware USB Serial Port for Temprecord Reader. See the example to the right. A Found New Hardware Wizard window will appear. Click on the option No, not this time located at the bottom of the list. Click on the Next button, which will take you to the following screen of the found new hardware wizard.

5 On the second screen of the USB serial port found new hardware wizard select the option Install the software automatically [Recommended]. Once you have made that selection click on the Next button to go to the following screen of the found new hardware wizard. As the USB Serial Port Drivers are being installed on to your computer you will see a screen similar to the one displayed to the left. Windows XP will again automatically pop-up a Windows Logo Testing dialog. To proceed with the installation click on the Continue Anyway button. The pop-up dialog will close and the Temprecord USB Serial Port for Temprecord Reader installation will proceed.

6 The final step to installing the USB serial port drivers onto your computer is to click on the Finish button at the bottom of the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard screen After a few moments a message will pop-up at the bottom right corner of your computer screen. The message will read Found New Hardware Your new hardware is installed and ready to use. See below for an example. All USB drivers have now been successfully installed on to your computer you can use the following steps to confirm this. Open Temprecord for Windows software and navigate to the Options menu at the top of the page. From the Options menu list click on COM port to open the COM port selection dialog. See the image to the right for an example of the Options COM Port menu.

7 The COM port selection dialog from Temprecord for Windows will open. The Option Look for USB Reader should automatically be selected and in the adjacent message box the message USB COM Port on COMxx (where COM number xx equals 1 255) should be visible. The Windows Operating System will automatically select the COM Port number for the USB Serial Port. See the image below for an example. The Temprecord for Windows Options COM Port dialog should look like the example to the left after all of the USB drivers have been installed successfully on to your computer. The Temprecord USB Reader is READY to be used. If you do not install the USB hardware drivers on to your computer it will not be possible for Temprecord for Windows software to locate the USB Reader on your computer system. The Options COM port screen from Temprecord for Windows will look like the example to the right if the USB drivers have not been installed correctly. If the USB Drivers did not install correctly on your computer unplug the USB Reader and then reconnect the USB Reader. Doing this will start the Found New Hardware Wizard then carry out the steps starting at the bottom of page 1 of this guide where you plug the USB Reader into your computer.
