1 Enhanced CCC Adapter For Rowe R- thru R- Vinyl Jukeboxes *STANDARD FEATURES Includes 0-Pin IC Socket & PC Cable Jukebox operation same as before Replaces the old microprocessor chip Programmable credit pricing or free play Programmable playmaker settings Statistical report downloading to PC Erase or save credits on power down Erase or save selections on power down Powerful Built-in diagnostic program NiCad battery can be removed **MP3 PLAYER OPTION (Purchased separately) Automatically detects MP3 player MP3 player kit includes wireless remote Reject & MP3 volume level from remote Vinyl & MP3 selections from remote Playmaker On/Off control from remote MP3 player adds 00 more selections Mix Vinyl & MP3 plays or all MP3 plays Super fast song changes on MP3 plays *CCC connector P-03 is not used for wallbox control, it is now a bi-directional serial port for the PC, MP3 and Wallbox adapters. ** Use of the MP3 player requires a modification of the amplifier mute signal wire and play counter wire at the record mechanism connectors. (Mod parts and details included with the MP3 player) The ECCCA is a circuit board module designed to upgrade the performance of any Rowe jukebox that uses the x Central Control Computer. This includes all models R- through R- and others. The module replaces the old microprocessor with an advanced microcontroller design to deliver more programmable control of the jukebox operation. It also eliminates the need for the "acid damaging" NiCad battery and the use of the "Pricing Board". Improved features include error number display for jukebox malfunctions, saving credits in the event of power failure, fully programmable credit and pricing settings, a statistical report download to PC of accumulated totals and selection popularities and a powerful built-in diagnostic program for troubleshooting any jukebox problem. The most significant feature is the MP3 player ready option. Plug in the MP3 player cable to connector P-03 and you've just increased the selection range to,000 songs. Yes! a full selection range of 000 to 999. You can also choose to substitute record selections for MP3 selection for either the "A" side, "B" side or both. And with the MP3 player, you get a wireless remote allowing you to reject record or MP3 plays, adjust the MP3 player volume, turn Playmaker On/Off and even make selections directly from the remote. Unplug the MP3 player from P-03 (or use a switch) and the jukebox reverts back to vinyl play. The ECCCA comes in two versions, the ECCCA- will have pin headers at the U position to emulate the Rockwell R6500 used on Rowe part # circuit boards. The ECCCA- will have pin headers at the U position to emulate the Mostek MK370 used on Rowe part # boards. In both cases, the pin header will plug into the 0-pin socket at IC position Z5 on the Rowe jukebox control board. If you're a repair technician, you know what it's like to find intermittent or bad circuits, especially when it affects the operation of the jukebox microprocessor. The built-in diagnostic Interrogator is the most valuable tool you can ever have. Any signal change is immediately displayed showing its on/off condition and name. This diagnostic will save you lots of time and money. Data Sync Engineering P.O. Box 539, Footbridge Lane Blairstown, New Jersey 075 TEL: (90) FAX: (90) Copyright 00 Data Sync Engineering. 2 INSTALLING THE ENHANCED CCC ADAPTER ) At the top, above the LED display, is the board part number. Two different boards were produced, the -0 and -0 board. You will need to know what board you have for the correct CCC Adapter version. At the right center, you will notice that we removed the battery. These batteries tend to leak causing acid damage to the components below. The lower center is the micro controller chip. This one happens to be soldered in. It will need to be removed. ) The controller chip used in this board is very rare and is no longer available. If you're careful, you can save it. Very carefully, using a low wattage soldering iron and a desoldering tool, remove the solder from the IC pads. Do not heat the pad for too long or it will be damaged and will lift off the board. Gently wiggle each lead with a needle-nose pliers to free it from the pad. Pry the IC from the board using a small screwdriver at each end. Do not apply excessive force or you will break a pin. NOTCH ACTIVITY LED 3) Insert the 0-pin IC socket with the notch facing up. We recommend to use a low profile, dual leaf socket. After soldering the pins, you can remove the residual flux using 9% Isopropyl alcohol. The board shown at the bottom of picture is the CCC Adapter. The center of the board has pin strip headers that will be inserted into the IC socket. Be careful not to bend these pins. ) The final step is inserting the CCC Adapter into the IC socket. Make sure the pins line up with the socket then gently press down. Reassemble your Central Control Computer enclosure. Use thick padding, such as a rubber mouse pad, at the back of the circuit board to prevent the connector pins from pushing through and breaking the solder joints. Install then turn on the jukebox, you should see the Most Popular selection displayed.

All 0 signals are continuously scanned by generating a STROBE output voltage, of about -volts from a transistor, then through a switch and diode (or transistor) is input to a voltage comparator IC Z0 or Z creating the inverted RETURN signal which is read by the microprocessor. To use the diagnostic Interrogator, you will need a PC with a serial port and a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal. This program is usually provided on Windows 95 through XP machines. Using the supplied serial cable, connect to P-03 on the jukebox Central Control Computer, the other end to the PC serial port. From the Service Mode, Utility position (U- ), type I on the PC to start the Interrogator. All displays are turned on. Type A to see all active signals. Lets you verify the programmed configuration. Press buttons, keypad keys, activate switches and wiggle wires to view signal activity. Any signal change is immediately displayed showing the on/off condition and signal name. Active or On condition is indicated as + before the signal name. Non-active or Off condition is indicated as - before the signal name. The lightly shaded area in the chart, means the diode component (CR###) is located on the Pricing Board. To see INDEX and HOME signal activity, press the CANCEL switch which causes the magazine to rotate.

7 The Interrogator, by far, is the most valuable tool to have. I've repaired many boards that even technicians, after spending hours, gave up on. One board, that comes to mind, was from a frustrated customer who sent his board out three times for repair, and each time it came back as finding a problem and being repaired. According to the customer, the board would, very randomly, play the wrong record and sometimes the magazine would rotate a few revolutions before finally playing a record. What I normally do on a new repair is set the magazine to Home position, turned all switches on and start the Interrogator program. In this case, after minutes, the Interrogator began showing activity Interrogator Started... +Optical Home signal +Optical Home signal +Optical Home signal +Optical Home signal Looking at the screen, I noticed the last activity showed the HOME signal as off. The Mech Control LED was on so the signal was still active. I decided to rotate the magazine back and forth through HOME position, the Interrogator showed INDEX activity, but no HOME. Then I discovered that if I left the magazine off HOME position for a few seconds, then rotated through HOME, the signal would show as on and in a moment, would go off. Seems, the longer it was off HOME position, the longer the signal would be active. Anyhow, looking at the signal matrix chart, STROBE 6, Q09 is the output and RETURN 6, Z0 is the input. Since I didn't have intermittent activity with the Inner Cam signal or Most Popular switch signal, that ruled out Q09 and Z0. It had to be either Q6 or diode CR0. Since transistors are more prone to failure, I replaced Q6. That was it, no more problems and a very loyal customer. THE BUILT-IN RAM MEMORY TEST To use the RAM Memory test, you will need a PC with a serial port and a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal. This program is usually provided on Windows 95 through XP machines. Using the supplied serial cable, connect to P-03 on the jukebox Central Control Computer, the other end to the PC serial port. From the Service Mode, Utility position (U- ), type R to start the RAM Memory test. When started, the Backup Battery is checked, then a two step memory test is performed over and over. The first part of the test is the Incremental Pattern test, the second part is Address Into Address test. During the testing process, the CCC and jukebox displays will show randomly changing patterns. A Low Battery does not stop the memory test. A memory test failure will show the Current Memory Address, data that was read and what is should be. Testing stops on any memory data error RAM Memory test... Battery Low! ADDR: WAS: SB: The jukebox RAM memory is 56x bits. Two IC's are required for -bits of memory. The upper -bits (left half) are from memory IC Z09, the lower -bits (right half) from memory IC Z. The above error warns about low battery and indicates a data error with memory IC Z09. Replaced Z09 and everything was fine.
