6 Limited Warranty WonATech warrants to the original user of this product that it shall be free of defects resulting from faulty manufacture of the product or its components for a period of one year from the date of shipment. WonATech makes no warranties regarding either the satisfactory performance of ZiveSP2 system including the software encoded in this product or the fitness of the system for any particular purpose. The remedy for breach of this limited warranty shall be limited solely to repair or by replacement, as determined by WonATech, and shall not include other damages WonATech reserves the right to make revisions to the system at any time without incurring any obligation to install same on systems previously purchased. 10 Chapter 1. Pre startup checking points 1. Hardware Note: From serial number R**********S,You must move interface board ROM write protection switch direction to write enable direction inside of instrument for the following case License code registration Channel expansion setting USB firmware upgrade After the above modification, you must set ROM switch as write protect direction Don t place EMI producing equipment near this instrument (such as radio, vibration etc.). The cell cable itself can work as antenna. (It can receive EMI noise). Never allow the cell cable to cross or come in contact with any power line cable. If the result data is noisy, it may be necessary to make the cell cable as short as possible. (As this reduces induced noise.) The counter electrode is dangerous. Do NOT touch this electrode. Do not place any obstacle preventing air flow at bottom or the side of the unit ZIVE SP2 should only be used with the supplied cell cable. If you use a custom made cell cable, it is likely to create noisy data. 2. Calibration Calibration of the ZIVE SP2 instrument is accomplished by using independent SM toolkit software.. Calibration will be done automatically. During calibration the cell cable must be disconnected from the instrument Never turn off the power during calibration... During Calibration, Do not locate EMI noise sources(radio, frequency generator, vibrator etc.) near the ZIVE SP2. 3. 12 Chapter 2. General instruction Please carefully read this operation manual before using the ZIVE SP2. 1. Inspection When you receive ZIVE SP2, You and sales representative/distributor should inspect the system. If you find any problem from shipping damage, you must notify WonATech and shipping carrier immediately and keep the shipping box as you received for the evidence and inspection by carrier. If ZIVE SP2 was damaged, do not operate the instrument until qualified engineer has checked and verified the instrument. Failure to do so may create a safety hazard. 2. Safety You must use earth grounded AC power source. You should use AC/DC adapter which supplied with ZIVE SP2. Do not use other power source other than that supplied with the ZIVE SP

13 There is screw part on power connector, you must connect adapter s screw cap to this screw part.. Do not locate any obstacles which will prevent air flow at bottom and side of the ZIVE SP2. 3. USB port PC must have usb2.0 high speed port and needs USB port number per device 4. Optional Software package License Software license package is per device. 5. CE compliance ZiveLab has designed and tested ZIVE SP2 to comply CE regulation. The relevant CE regulations for ZIVE SP2 is EN :

14 Chapter 3. Reference ZIVE SP2 generates sine wave using fast DAC(50MHz) with DDS and DSP calculate the impedance in accordance with the block diagram below. Output signal has x1, x0.1 and x0.01 gain. Current & voltage input signal has x1, x10 and x100 gain. Analog signal is filtered with analog filter and digital filter defined by the frequency region SP2 is one device having one channel. Each device has its own license code for optional software package and its own interface module (USB)

18 3. Front panel LCD There is a front panel LCD that displays relevent test information. Installation Refer to SM6 (Smart Manager) manual. 6. Caution 1) Hardware DO NOT touch the counter electrode lead during a run. DO NOT remove cell cable lead during a run. DO NOT locate any noise sources(radio, monitor etc.) near the instrument. DO NOT block the bottom or side ventilation panels

20 DO NOT turn off the power during a run. DO NOT disassemble the instrument(this will void the warranty). 2) Software If you find the USB icon color is green at right upper side of display, then it means communication is normal but if icon color is grey, it means that communication between PC and ZIVE SP2 is disconnected. ZIVE SP2 can save the data file in PC in real time but for fast sampling rate(including burst mode), data stocking speed in ZIVE SP2 is faster than transfer rate to PC. So after finishing the experiment, data transferring from ZIVE SP2 to PC may continue for some time. If you setup a long experiment time with high speed data sampling condition, the data may overflow the memory buffer inside ZIVE SP2 and this will result in data loss. Setup of the experiment schedule file should be done with consideration to the amount of data to be recorded and the speed and quantity of the ZIVE SP2 internal memory. The number of data points and the amount of data transferred to the PC is shown in the information bar in the software virtual control panel. If there is remaining data inside ZIVE SP2 not transferred to PC after the experiment is finished, a message box will open to show the system is transferring data. If you press cancel button, data will saved up to the cancellation point. (If you did not start another experiment, you can retrieve the non transferred data from ZIVE SP2 again by clicking refresh real time plot button. Smart manager software consists of standard software package and optional software packages. If you purchase one of the optional software packages a later date you can activate the new software by inputting the authorization code 7. ZIVE SP2 feature A. When ZIVE SP2 start the experiment, software will send schedule file s contents to ZIVE SP2 at one time, then ZIVE SP2 will work experiment(control and data aquistion) independently from PC. So after starting experiment, ZIVE SP2 will work without PC control. B. Data storage size inside ZIVE SP2 per each channel is max. 350,000 points. These data set can be transferred to PC after experiment finishes. C. User can adjust parameters for experiment in details

21 D. ZIVE SP2 has information of each channel s parameters and calibration data E. Each channel is plug and play type. F. Easy firmware upgrade G. It is possible to extend multichannel system using several set of ZIVE SP2 using USB hub. H. If there is PC power failure or USB cable is unplugged by accident, the experiment keeps going and you can tranfer data from ZIVE SP2 memory any time. I. Using DI port, external TTL system can be programmed. J. K type thermocouple can measure temperature. 8. Device utility Click on main tool bar or select device utility-system on menu A. License registration Note: From serial number R**********S,You must move interface board ROM write protection switch direction to write enable direction inside of instrument If you purchase optional software package later, you will receive license code then click Registration License button. Current license code will display on blank part as on the above. You can input your new license code into this part and click OK button One license code has several optional license key

22 If you input wrong license code, you can see the following message You MUST click Save channel info. After above process, you MUST turn off ZIVE SP and turn it on. License code comes from ZIVE SP serial number. So if you try to input license code for other ZIVE SP, it will be invalid. If you configure the system as multichannel, each channel has its own license code, you need to change license code per channel. Click the row for device number then background color will be changed to yellow. Then you can change the license code for each device(channel) as the above process. B. Channel Expansion Note: From serial number R**********S,You must move interface board ROM write protection switch direction to write enable direction inside of instrument In order to configure multichannel system using multiple SP series; If you buy additional channels later, you must input channel information(device number and channel assignment as the above and click Save Ch. Setting. The following process is needed to configure multichannel system. 1. Connect multiple SP systems to usb port (If your PC s usb port number is insufficient, you can use usb hub) 2. Power on each SP 3. Run sm6.exe

23 4. Click Device utility icon on tool bar 5. Select device number on channel 2 6. Click Save Ch. Setting button 7. Multichannel system is ready. Note: If each SP has different license, each license will work only for its SP

24 Chapter5. Update firmware When you install new version smart manager software, this software will detect firmware update requirement. If it require firmware update, you can update firmware package in smart manager software. Please refer to Smart Manager operation manual. If smart manager failed to update firmware or if there is a problem on updating firmware, you can update firmware manually using Smuploader6.exe software. Firmware package (*.sfw) for installed SmartManager version includes all of 3 firmware files. This file is located in c:\program files\zivelab\sm6\resource folder If sm6.exe is running, you need to close this program. You must stop running channel(s) before closing the program. Run smuploader6.exe on C:/program files/zivelab/sm6 folder then following window will appear.. 1. Click Refresh device button at left upper side then connected instruments information will be displayed automatically. To update firmware, you must click this button at first. (Caution) a. Do not any work on Windows during firmware update. b. Keep sufficient PC resources and do firmware update

25 c. If the progress bar stops, it is mainly due to lack of resources in the computer. Close other application programs and turn-off /turn on the instrument and try to update firmware again. d. Do not turn off during firmware upgrade. After Firmware upgrade, you must turn off ZIVE SP2 and turn it on 2. If PC was not connected to instruments, the following message will be displayed.. 3. Default firmware package location is c:/zivedata/zivelab/sm6/config folder 4. You just need to update recent firmware only.. A. USB firmware update To update Usb firmware

26 Click Select firmware file button and select firmware package(*.sfw), the you can see file information at USB firmware at bottom side. The information of Chip Information section is for firmware information inside of instruments. Please compare with two dates and only if target firmware s date is newer, try to update the firmware. When you click Upload button, then update process will be started and you can see progress bar about update progress. Note: Do not other work during update progress.. From serial number R**********S,You must move ROM switch to write enable direction inside of SP2 to burn new usb firmware. After burning USB firmware, you must set the ROM switch as write protected direction. B. FPGA firmware update To update fpga firmware; Select channel number. Click Select firmware file button as the above and select firmware package(*.sfw), the you can see file information at file information at bottom side. The information of Chip Information section is for firmware information inside of instruments. Please compare with two dates and only if target firmware s date is newer, try to update the firmware. When you click Upload button, then update process will be started and you can see progress bar about update progress. Note: Do not other work during update progress.. If the update is finished, turn off the instrument and turn on

27 C. DSP firmware update To update dsp firmware; Select channel number. Click Select firmware file button as the above and select firmware package(*.sfw), the you can see file information at file information at bottom side. The information of Chip Information section is for firmware information inside of instruments. Please compare with two dates and only if target firmware s date is newer, try to update the firmware. When you click Upload button, then update process will be started and you can see progress bar about update progress. Note: Do not other work during update progress.. When you finish update the firmware(s), close smuploader.exe program If the update is finished, turn off the instrument and You must set the ROM switch as write protected direction

28 Chapter 6. Cell connection Please note the cell lead cable connector color as the follows Working electrode: Green connector Sense: Blue connector Reference: White connector Counter: Red connector ZIVE SP2 was shipped with standard 1meter shielded cell cable. Cell connector is Dsub type and other side has 5 banana ended plugs with removable alligator clips. 25pin Dsub male connector of standard cell cable connects to SP2 s rear panel 25pin Dsub female connector. For secure connection, you should screw the cell connector into the rear panel connector. Cell connection is; Connect green and blue lead to the working electrode. Green lead is for current flow and blue lead is for measuring voltage. Do not locate these leads nearby EMI noise source. Connect white lead to reference electrode. Cell potential is measured between white lead and blue lead. Do not locate these leads nearby EMI noise source Connect red lead to counter electrode. (Someone says auxiliary electrode). These lead to flow current. Caution: Do not touch this lead. Dangerous!! If you are trying to measure very small current, you need faradaic cage
