3 1. Special Features jetcast easily enables you to establish your own broadcasting station. If your computer has an access to internet currently you can start your own broadcasting at any time. The most significant features of all is that broadcasting can be done through MP3 and WMA modes; therefore, you can enjoy various ways of broadcasting according to your choice. jetcast is also compatible with existing broadcasting systems such as shoutcast or icecast. 2. Installation This chapter is pertaining to installation or removal of jetchat. 2-1 Installation 1. Move to the folder where jetaudio 5.0 Installation File exists. Double click the file (JAD500.exe) and complete the general installation procedure. 2-2 Removal jetaudio can be removed in the same way you remove other programs. Start-Preference -Control Panel- Addition/Removal of program and then select jetaudio and click Remove.

4 3. How to Use If you have completed an appropriate selection on the Preference Window and on Broadcasting List, you can start broadcasting. This chapter illustrates the simplified usage of jetcast. The Detailed usage is available in Chapter Broadcasting based on jetcast (internal jet server) 1. Turn on jetcast: Activate jetcast. (Note) When there is private IP, your station may not be displayed on the Directory server except when the broadcasting is conducted along with the external server. In this case, the alert window shown below will be displayed and if you click the check box, this window will not be displayed from there on. [Figure 3.1 jetcast Warning window] 2. Addition of File / Folder: To make a broadcasting list, you can either select + on Window 4.1, or select file or folder in the menu. If you want to make a removal from the list you can either select on Figure 4.1 or select removal from the menu. 3. Preference: Make selection in Station, Disc Jockey, Format Server and Discovery Server. (If no selection has been made, the existing default values will be activated) 4. Starting broadcasting: When you click Broadcast Start Button or select Start Broadcast from the Broadcast Menu, then Figure 3.2 will be displayed and the

5 progress can be monitored through the window. When this activation has been completed, broadcasting will start. [Figure 3.2 jetcast Progress window] 5. Confirmation: Input directory on the browser to confirm registration of your station in the server. (Note) Make sure you have selected Will be registered in the directory Server at the time of starting broadcast as stipulated in Chapter Broadcast based on External Server jetcast is compatible with external servers such as shoutcast or icecast. A. Starting jetcast: Activate jetcast. B. Addition of File or Folder: Select + on Figure 4.1 or select file or folder in the menu to make a list for broadcast. Unwanted list can be deleted by selecting or file removal in the file menu. C. Preference: Make a selection to connect with external servers such as jetserver, shoutcast or icecast. Refer to Chapter 5, Chapter6. D. Start broadcast: Click Start button or Start Broadcast in the menu. E. E. Confirmation: if broadcast has started, then input directory in the browser to confirm registration of your station in the server. (Note) The data in Shoutcast or icecast will not be registered in the server.

Parts and Functions [Figure 4.1 jetcast main window] 4-1 Features related to play list management There are two main functions in the Playlist Management Menu: a function related to Registration and Removal of broadcast list, a function related to sorting playlist and selecting sorting method.

7 [Figure 4.2 File / Folder Adding or Subtracting] Registration and Removal of Broadcast list 1. Add Files or Folders: If you select + on the above bar 4.2, a menu, adding file / folder or adding folder including sub folders, will be displayed. Then, you add a file or folder. 2. Remove Select Tracks / All Tracks: If you select - the Removal of Selected List and the Removal of All List will be displayed. Then you select a song(s) or a folder for removal. 3. Import Playlist: Opens existing broadcast list.(*.pls File) 4. Export Playlist: Can store broadcast list under a specified folder with a specific name. List Sorting/ Sorting Methods 1. Shuffle Playlist: Random mix-up of list 2. Queue Up selected song: Selected list will be moved to the top of the list 3. Move Up selected song: Selected list will be moved up by one step 4. Move Down selected song: Selected list will be moved down by one step 4-2 Features related to Broadcasting / Playback There are two main functions related to broadcasting: Start/Stop Broadcast and Playback Control Function Start / Stop Broadcasting [Figure 4.3 Broadcast Start Button] Start broadcasting or stop broadcasting in the middle of broadcast Playback

8 [Figure 4.4 Play / Stop] 1. Play: Plays selected song (Playback will be activated only after starting broadcast) 2. Stop: Stops a song from playing 3. Fade Out Stop: Gradually reduces the volume and stops 4. Play Next Song: Moves to next song. 5. Random Play Mode: Plays in a random order 6. Select Repeat Mode: Repeats a list. 4-3 Music and Microphone The status of currently playing music or microphone s volume control panel will be displayed. Preference for Microphone: By adding sound effect you can enhance the effect of your narration (talk). You can choose from Hall, Room, Stage and Stadium. This can only be activated after starting broadcast. Monitor Volume Control: The sound volume for broadcaster (Monitor) can be adjusted. [Figure 4.5 Microphone sound effect configuration] (NOTE) Refer to Chapter regarding Preference for Microphone 4-4 Mixer and Volume Control [Figure 4.6 Mixer / Volume control] 1. The equalizer of currently broadcasting music or microphone will be displayed. 2. Balancing music and microphone volume: The ratio for music and microphone can be adjusted.

9 3. Volume Control for music and microphone: The volume of the sound can be adjusted. 4-5 Status Window Figure 4.7 shows the status bars for broadcast and jetcast. [Figure 4.7 Status window] 1. Broadcast Status: On Air sign will be lighted when broadcast starts. 2. Microphone: Microphone icon will be lighted when activated. 3. Number of listeners: Indicates the number of current audience(listeners). Ex: 10/50, my station has maximum capacity of 50 listeners and currently there are 10 listeners. 4. Playback Mode: Displays the Playback method of the currently playing list (Refer to chapter 4-6) Random Play mode: Random Whether to play randomly or not 5. Repeating mode of currently playing file: Whether or not to repeat the current playlist from the beginning after completion of the playback of all the songs in the playlist. 6. External Server Status: Displays the status of connection with external server. Refer to chapter 5-6-1

10 4-6 Preference for Playback modes You can select playback modes on the Figure 4.8. [Figure 4.8 Play Mode Configuration] 1. : The ending part of the current song and the beginning part of the next song will be overlapped. 2. : The current song and next song will be played repeatedly. 3. : The narration (talk) will be inserted between the songs. 4. : The beginning part of the next song and the comment will be overlapped. 4-7 Chatting Room Chatting Window will be displayed as you start broadcast. Refer to Chapter 6 for the detail. When you click Start Broadcast button, the following chatting window will be displayed.

12 5. Preference [Figure 5.1 Station Configuration window] 5-1 Station On Figure 5.1, you may input general information of your broadcasting station. 1. Station Name: input your station name. This name will be automatically registered on jetcast home page ( It is recommendable that you create an original and user friendly name. 2. Home Page: This is the home page for the broadcaster. This will be automatically registered on jetcast home page. 3. Language: You may register the language that you use most often. You can choose from Korean, Japanese and English.

13 4. Genre: Input genre of broadcast list which is to be broadcasted 5. Ment: Select whether to insert comments or not 5. Comments: In this space, you can write any additional comments or necessary information regarding your station. This will be displayed on Directory server. 5-2 Disc Jockey (Cyber Jockey) On Figure 5.2, you may input the name of DJ or CJ, address and sex. Even if you don t make any input it may not affect your broadcasting. [Figure 5.2 Dick Jockey Information Configuration window]

14 5-3 Time Schedule By designating Broadcast schedule, you can provide more detailed information of your station. There are four choices for Broadcast schedule: 24 hour broadcast, daily broadcast, weekly broadcast, and irregular broadcast. [Figure 5.3 Time Schedule Configuration window]

15 5-4 Chatting Figure 5.4 is preference window for chatting room which is available along with broadcasting. [Figure 5.4 Chatting Configuration window] Do not create Chatting room : Do not create Chatting room. Properties Use station name as : Use station name designated on Chapter 5.1 as a name for your chatting room Select Chatting port automatically: Automatic selection of port for chatting room. You can select any port of your choice( useful for users who have firewall)

16 5-5 Format On Figure 5.5, you can select broadcasting mode. There are three choices of mode in jetaudio Plus version: MP3 mode, MP3Pro mode and WMA mode. [Figure 5.5 Broadcasting Format Configuration window] MP3 / MP3Pro / WMA: Figure 5.6 shows the preference window for MP3 mode and WM A mode. You can select a Bit Rate in accordance with your internet condition. If you choose a high Bit Rate you may expect smooth flow of broadcasting but if there is a large number of audience you may experience disturbances (buffering) from time to time. T his could be a major drawback in choosing a high Bit Rate.

However, you can still broadcast by using MP3 encoder included in Windows. This particular encoder can support up to 56kbps.

18 5-6 Server General [Figure 5.8 Configuration for Server] 1. Internal Server - Streaming port: Provides port number for your audience. The default port number is Maximum number of audience: Decides the maximum number of audience. This number limits the number of audience who can actually listen to your broad cast. 2. External Server This is an advanced level feature which can be used when you connect jetcast wit h icecast server or shoutcast server. This feature is useful when you anticipate a larg e number of audience. If you already have a server, it can be connected with jetcast or it can be expanded to accommodate a large

19 number of audience. When you click in Config button on Figure 5.8 then Figure 5-9 window for external server will be displayed. Click in External Server button to a ctivate. [Figure 5.9 Configuration window for External Server ] - External Server Configuration: You can have up to five external servers; you can work from the computers other than yours. If your computer server has low bandwidth, you can use other computer which has a large bandwidth to activate jetserver. This feature is to accommodate large number of audience. Server: Preference can be selected according to the type of external server. a. jetcast or icecast server: Only applicable when external server mode is jetcast or icecast b. Shoutcast server: Only applicable when external server mode is shoutcast. Information: This particular preference is for the communication with jetserver locating externally. a. IP: Input IP address of external computer which you want to connect with.

20 b. Port: Input Port number. This is for the communication with external computer s jetserver. This port must be consistent with external jetserver s preference. (Refer to the Chapter for External jetserver) c. Password: You may create a password to protect the communication with external computer. (Privacy protection) (Note) The external servers such as icecast and Shoutcast do not support WMA format. 3. Advanced Configuration You might need to have basic knowledge of network to understand this advance options. For the networks set up as private (internal) network with Firewall or Router, normally, users at internet cannot listen to the broadcast of this internal network. In this case, you have to set it up as Firewall or port-forwarding options of Router or D.M.Z, then select the upgrade option of jetcast. Now the broadcast is wide open for people in outside of network as well. It appears as below, once you select upgrade option on 5.8 server window. If you want to use Port-Forwarding, go ahead and select 2 nd button and input the

21 address and port number what you are going to use in Port-Forwarding Usually, the address will be the same as Router or Firewall in network and also you can use the host name, as you can see above. Use the same port number as you select in Router/Firewall Normally, the current port number you use and Port-Forwarding is the same number in most of cases. Note : You must have select of Firewall/Router to use Port-Forwarding, and for that, need to refer to the manual of your purchased merchandise Directory Server A listener can search a station through Directory Serve. [Figure 5.10 Configuration for Directory Server] 1. Register at Directory Server at the time of starting broadcast: Register your station at server for other audience.

22 5-7 Advanced Feature Preference for Mixer and Input/Output and Decoder AGC General [Figure 5.11 Configuration for Advanced General] Mixer Setting: The microphone icon in Chapter 4-3 can be used to activate microphone and also can be linked along with other recording device for the purpose of mixing sounds. If you select a device from Mixer Setting and input node, the microphone button in Chapter 4-3 and the input node will be linked. For example, if you select CD (from Mixer Setting) and click Microphone button, while CD is being played from jetaudio or Media Player, CD music and the sound broadcasted through jetcast will be played simultaneously.

23 Priority in Streaming: Can prioritize the programs for streaming; the default value is Above Normal. Automatic Sound Volume Control: jetcast can activate AGC function to maintain the sound volume between the files evenly. First, select whether or not to use AGC, then adjust AGC level. As AGC value increases the sound volume may increase accordingly Input (NOTE) This is only possible when preference for each plug-in is being activated. [Figure 5.12 Configuration for Input] Preferences for input plug-in are different from each other based on the usage of each plug-in or preference values.

25 5-7-4 Decoder [Figure 5.15 Configuration for Decoder] There are total of five MPEG Decoders of jetaudio 5.2. Decoding could be done by selecting 4.X version s decoder or 5.2 version s decoder. Higher the beat rate more detailed decoding is possible. jetaudio 5.2 Decoder: There are three Decoders for New MP3 Decoder.( 32bit floating point,32bit Fixed point, 64 bit floating point) jetaudio 4.X Decoder: There are two decoders.( 32bit floating point, 64 bit floating point)

27 6. jetchat [Figure 6-1 jetchat Main Window] During the broadcast, you can exchange opinions or receive a song request from audience. Figure 6-1 shows the status of jetchat. jetchat is operated by two modes which have same screen but different functions. The broadcaster s mode is operated by a server; therefore, the broadcaster has control over the selection of his/her audience. 6-1 Font Related Function Font: decides a specific font. Font Size: decides size of font. Emoticon: expresses your emotion using icons. Font Mode: decides thickness, angle, underline. Font Color: Decides the color for your font. 6-2 Song Request If you are the broadcaster you can only receive song request. If you are an audience you can only send song request.

28 [Figure 6-2 Request song window(client)] Chatting Window : Returns to chatting mode. Send Button: Sends out song request. Remove: Removes the list of requested songs. [Figure 6-3 Request Song window (Server)] Remove: Removes the list of requested songs. Remove all: Removes the whole list of requested songs.

29 6-3 Sending Files You can send or receive file with anyone who has registered in your chatting room. Designate your counterpart. When you click on right mouse button, Preference window for Sending File will be displayed. Once selection of file(s) is completed then sending process will start automatically. You can specify the folder in which the received file will be stored, on the Preference Window. 6-4 Whispering You can chat with your counterpart in privacy. Select the person you want to chat with and click right mouse button then the preference window for Whispering (Figure 6-2) will be displayed. Figure Preference 1. 30 Chatting Name: a screen name for chatting. Icon: Describe yourself in a simple pictorial way Skip displaying preference window for chatting as the program starts: When you click this button, the preference window for chatting will not be displayed from next time. No whispering: No whispering from anyone will be accepted. 2. File [Figure 6-3 Configuration window for Chatting 2] Preference for downloading a folder: Selects a folder to store received file(s) Refuse to receive file: Refuse to receive any file from your counterpart. 6-6 Emoticon You can input text emoticon instead of graphic emoticon.

32 7. jetcast Server This chapter is regarding operation of jet server. By expanding a server you can accommodate a greater number of audiences and can support audience who use internal IP for their broadcasting. The broadcasting is only possible when the server is operated along with jetcast. Refer to Chapter 5-6 (Preference for jetcast) [Figure 7-1 jetserver Main window (Stand alone mode)] When you place jetserver in a server which has a fixed IP or a large capacity network line and then click in Jcserver.exe, Figure 7-1 will be displayed. When you are done with the selection in the preference window, click in Start Button. Then jetserver will start functioning as a relay station.

33 Configuration When you click in Config Button on Figure 7-2 the following will be displayed. 7-1 Station Station : General preference may be selected [Figure 7-2 Configuration window for jetserver 1] Clustering: Enables you to use it as a single relay station by bundling several jetservers in to one. Language Selection: Enables you to choose a specific language Genre Selection: Selects broadcasting genre. Generation: Selects the age group of listeners Ment: Decides whether to have comments or not Auto-Start: jetserver will automatically start as the program is activated.

34 7-2 Server Preference for Sources related to server/client Port and Max. Number of audience [Figure 7-3 Configuration window for jetserver 2] Source Port: Preference for communication with source port which sends the contents Client Port: Preference for communication with client port which listens broadcast from jetserver Max User: Decided the maximum number of audience. This number must be different based on the network s bandwidth. Advanced: This is preference for Network Address. In general, if the system has one NIC (Network Interface Card), you can disregard this function, however, if the system has a multiple number of NIC you can select NIC address and port.

36 7-3 Schedule You can provide four different broadcast time schedule to your audience: 24-hour broadcast, Daily Broadcast, Weekly Broadcast, and Irregular Broadcast. [Figure 7-5 Configuration window for jetserver 4]

37 7-4 Media Selects the broadcasting mode from jetserver, This mode doesn t need to be identical with the mode selected in jetcast. For example, if jetcast broadcasts in mp3 mode and the external jetserver broadcasts in WMA, the two modes will be broadcasted at the same time. [Figure 7-6 Configuration window for jetserver 5] Format: Broadcasting mode will be selected. Password: Create a password to communicate with external jetcast.

38 3. Directory Server It makes possible for your audience to search your station if your station is registered in the directory server. [Figure 7-7 Configuration window for jetserver 6] Host: Select directory server at which the broadcasting may be registered. The default value is broadcast.jetaudio.com Port: Select a port for a communication with directory server. The default value is 8080.
