2 Introduction The STP MP3 Player is a freeware software program for playing MP3 files and audio CDs. The STP stands for System Tray Player. The player is designed to reside in the Windows system tray and to use minimal system resources while playing. Youri Stous of Yaroslav, Russia, initially developed the software. Currently, the program is Open Source under the terms of the GNU Public License. Installing the STP MP3 Player The STP MP3 Player is available from the following URL and is distributed as a Zip format compressed file. The latest stable release is stp zip. The following URL provides the source code and links to other support sites for the player. download the Zip file and unzip the compressed files into C:\Program Files\STP\. For help with working with Zip files visit: Opening the Player Double click C:\Program Files\STP.exe to open the program. The program icon appears in the system tray. Note: Right click C:\Program Files\STP.exe and select Send To/Desktop from the menu to create a shortcut on the desktop. This places the STP MP3 Player icon on the desktop. Figure 1 - STP MP3 Player shortcut icon Player Setup 1. Right click on the system tray icon to open the menu. 2. Click Settings to open the submenu. Page 2 of 8

4 Figure 3 - General settings Mouse Clicks Sets up functions for controlling the Player using the mouse. Figure 4 - Mouse clicks Uncheck Left click to show/hide Minibar to activate the other functions. Setup Selects file types to associate with the Player. Allows the easy creation of a desktop shortcut, and a folder context menu. Also allows the selection of the STP MP3 Player to be the default CD player. Figure 5 - Setup settings CDDB Allows the selection of the CD Database server by typing the URL of the CD Database server in the Server field. Page 4 of 8

5 Figure 6 - CDDB settings Playback Sets the amount of gap time between tracks. Drag the pointer along the scale to set the gap time. Sets the Audio buffer determining how much memory is allotted to playing the MP3 file. Drag the pointer along the scale to set the audio buffer. Sets the processor priority determining how much processor time to allot to playing the MP3 file. Drag the pointer along the scale to set the processor priority. Click Mono output if you have an old/slow computer and are having trouble operating the Player. If this does not help, check Downsampling (1:2) or Downsampling (1:4). Figure 7 - Playback settings Hotkeys Sets the desired hotkey combinations. Move the cursor to the desired field and press the combination of keys to set the hotkey. Page 5 of 8

6 Figure 8 - Hotkeys settings Playing a MP3 File 1. Right click the system tray icon. A menu opens. 2. Click Play to open the submenu. 3. Click Open File to select an MP3. The Open File window opens. 4. Navigate to the desired MP3 and click it to select it. 5. Click the Open button. The MP3 is loaded into the Player and begins to play. Figure 9 - Play menu Folders containing MP3 files are opened in the same way. Click Open Folder to open the Open window. If the MP3 file has been recently played, click Recent to see if it listed. Double click the listed MP3 to play it. Click MP3 Library to open your library of MP3 files. Page 6 of 8

7 Opening the Minibar The Minibar is a desktop tool bar for operating the Player. It provides the same functions as the menu launched from the system tray. To open the Minibar: 1. Right click the Player icon in the system tray. A menu opens. 2. Click Windows to open the submenu. 3. Click Minibar to open the Minibar. Figure 10 - Minibar Opening the Equalizer 1. Right click the Player icon in the system tray. A menu opens. 2. Click Windows to open the submenu. 3. Click Equalizer to open the Equalizer. Figure 11 - Equalizer 4. Click and drag inside each field to set the PreAmp Equalizer channels. 5. Several preset settings are available on the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window. 6. 8 Playing a Music CD The STP MP3 Player has a limited, but effective, CD playing capability. 1. Right click the system tray icon. A menu opens. 2. Click Play to open the submenu. 3. Click To CD-mode. 4. The CD in the drive is loaded and begins to play. Note: The Equalizer is disabled when playing a CD. Page 8 of 8
