_ POD Hardware Reference In-Circuit Emulation PODs ActiveGT PODs can be used connected to the ic3000 HS/GT Emulator through the ActivePRO/GT interface icard. A green LED is lit when the ActiveGT POD is powered on. PIN1 location on every component is also marked on the circuit board with a square block (PIN 1 pin is soldered a square block, other pins have a round pin). AUX Inputs The POD has a special interface for an additional ActivePRO/GT AUX card (IC30338), which provides 16 AUX auxiliary inputs. Signals connected to these inputs are either sampled with the trace cycle or on the signal edge change. Inputs are divided into two identical blocks with 8 inputs each. Every block has an adjustable input threshold from 0 to 3V. Inputs are 5V tolerant. For more information see the hardware reference for the ActivePRO/GT AUX Card. Trigger Output A trigger output, signaling trace trigger event, is available on the hardware via a coax SMA connector. For instance, an external logic analyzer can be connected to this connector. Trace trigger event is indicated as a negative edge on the coax SMA connector. The signal returns to a high level (3,3V) on the next trace activation. Final Target Application Test After the application is being more or less debugged and final application test is performed, it is recommended to remove all breakpoints and to close all debug windows (memory, SFR, watch...) to eliminate any possible influence of the emulator on the CPU execution. There were cases where the target application has been behaving differently with the target CPU inserted or the POD connected. If the debugger is configured to update some debug windows in real-time, the user may not be aware of that the CPU execution may be slightly disturbed. However, when the monitor access type is configured to update debug windows while the CPU is running, the CPU execution is disturbed significantly, depending on the necessary number of memory accesses to update opened debug windows. There are cases when internal peripheral device requires read access of the particular register during the device configuration. The user has had SFR window opened and the necessary read access was actually performed by the debugger and not by the application as it would be correct. Therefore, the application was working fine with the emulator, but a standalone application didn't work correctly, as the peripheral device was not configured properly. Temperature range All isystem devices, unless explicitly otherwise noted, are specified to operate at room temperatures (specifically, between 10 C/50 F and 40 C/105 F). isystem, September /10
_ POD Hardware Reference MPC564xB ActiveGT POD Ordering code POD Speed (MHz) Exchange CPU Trace Depth IC30762 Max. CPU Clock (120MHz) NO 64M Frames Before connecting the PODs, make sure you read the technical notes on the Freescale PowerArchitecture 56xx and ST SPC56 family. This POD is based on Freescale MPC5646C in the BGA256 package, which supports the following microcontrollers: MPC5644B, MPC5644C, MPC5645B, MPC5645C, MPC5646B, MPC5646C SPC564B64, SPC56EC64, SPC564B70, SPC56EC70, SPC564B74, SPC56EC74 Freescale ST Check with isystem for the latest list of supported devices. Power Supply The POD can be powered either from the target or from the emulator ( Hardware/Emulation Options/Vcc/Clock tab. From the emulator, it s always powered with 5V while from the target it can be powered either with 3.3V or 5V (depending on the target power supply). Clock Two jumpers J1 and J2 are available on the bottom side of the POD configuring the clock selection. When both jumpers are in 1-2 position, clock to the POD is supplied either by the target or by the emulator (recommended selection) depending on the selection in the Hardware/Emulation Options/Vcc/Clock tab. Due to the adapter, which is used to connect the POD to the target, an impedance of the clock EXTAL and XTAL lines is significantly changed and may prevent crystal in the target to oscillate. Therefore it is advised to use target clock only when an oscillator is used in the target. isystem, September /10
However, when it s mandatory to use a crystal based clock from the target, which doesn t oscillate in conjunction with the ActiveGT POD, it is possible to build a custom crystal circuit on the POD. In this case, jumpers J1 and J2 must be set in 2-3 position (clock setting in winidea has no meaning then). Next, the POD needs to be disassembled partly in order to get to the PCB layout, where custom oscillation circuit can be built. Consult with isystem technical support for instructions on POD disassembly when such a requirement arises. Crystal circuit on the POD Crystal circuit PCB layout located on the bottom side of the CPU Module Emulation Notes Microcontroller reset line is bidirectional, open-drain type. For proper POD operation, pull-up resistor on the reset line is required. 10k pull-up resistor is connected to the reset line on the POD side. Make sure that there is no pull-down resistor (pull-up is allowed) in the target since it would conflict with the POD s pull-up. Pinout Adapters Per default POD comes with a T_QFP208 pinout. An additional converter board exists, converting the T_QFP208 to the T_QFP176 pinout. Such converter must be used to adapt the POD to the QFP176 target pinout. T_QFP208 -> T_QFP176 converter features two jumpers designated as J1 and J2. Per default the jumpers are not set. When the jumper J1 is set, the CPU port TPI9 is connected to the pin 109 of the QFP176 package and when the jumper J2 is set, the CPU port TPI10 is connected to the pin 110 of the QFP176 package. When emulating target device in the QFP176, check you particular device if it has TPI9 and TPI10 on pin 109 and pin 110. If yes, then set jumpers J1 and J2, otherwise keep them off. isystem, September /10

Measurement Boards Measurement boards can be ordered separately, which deliver all the microcontroller pins to the external connectors, where all CPU signals can be measured and inspected. Description Measurement Board MPC5607B (176-Pin) Ordering Code IAMMPC5607B-QFP176 The T_QFP176 Measurement Board The POD with the T_QFP176 Measurement Board attached Connect the 176-pin Measurement Board via the T_QFP208 -> T_QFP176 Converter (which comes with the POD) to the POD. The QFP176 target adapter then connects to the bottom side of the measurement board instead to the T_QFP208 -> T_QFP176 Converter. This is the same measurement board which can be used with the MPC560xB ActiveGT POD. Note: Pay attention to pin 1. Be gentle when removing the Measurement Board from the POD otherwise connectors can be damaged. isystem, September /10
Important It is highly recommended to use a ground wire delivered beside the ic3000 (HS/GT) unit to connect the ic3000 GND and the target GND before connecting the POD to the target. This measure protects the POD s sensitive logic against the harmful current, which can flow between the POD and the target ground if the target and the POD ground potentials are not equal at the time when the POD is physically connected to the target.
