Pure steel: Self-protection against rust and time This brand, issued by the Italian stainless steel association Centro Inox, marks out the AISI 18/10 stainless steel material, whose main feature is that it does not rust if exposed to air and water. Stainless steel has a property that makes it unique: it is self protecting. Thanks to its alloy elements, it forms a thin transparent passive layer on its surface. Even if the surface is scratched or otherwise damaged, this very thin passive layer, made up of only a few atoms, instantly reforms due to the effect of the oxygen in the air or water. This explains why stainless steel does not require any coating or other protection to remain shiny and sparkling, even after decades of use. Stainless steel is an hygienic material. It is an alloy that puts together the mechanical properties of steels with the typical anti-corrosion properties of noble metals. C.M. sinks require little care and minimum time to maintain unchanged their brightness and brilliance. Alcohol or vinegar-based neutral detergents are recommended for cleaning. After use your sink should be dried with a microfibre cloth in order to prevent the forming of matt areas. In this eventuality will be enough to clean your sink using a cloth with denatured alcohol. Do not leave wet sponges, salt, corrosive substances, hot or ferrous objects on the sinks for long periods of time.
