1) DESCRIPTION The purpose of this bulletin is to describe important information regarding the new NissanConnect system, and recommended diagnosis guidelines for the Nissan connect

1 Nissan Ireland Cedar House Park West Business Park Nangor Road, Dublin 12 Technical Information Bulletin REFERENCE: MODEL: PIB-NES-AV J11, F15, C13, E12, T32 SUBJECT: TB J11 - New NissanConnect diagnosis guidelines. 1) DESCRIPTION The purpose of this bulletin is to describe important information regarding the new NissanConnect system, and recommended diagnosis guidelines for the Nissan connect 2 units. 2) BACKGROUND The new NissanConnect unit is a complex device with a lot of built-in functions. Some of these features depend on the customer s phone and knowledge of the system. Key areas of the system are covered and procedures to avoid unnecessary unit replacement are listed. Only specific issues that have been experienced to date are covered, a logical approach should be taken to diagnose the concern and conduct the appropriate action required. 3) SERVICE TEST MODE To enter Service Test Mode Ignition ON Press and hold SETUP button Turn the ENTER dial counter-clockwise 3 clicks Turn the ENTER dial clockwise 3 clicks Turn the ENTER dial counter-clockwise 3 clicks 3 1 2

2 Service Test Mode Menu 4) IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING NEW NISSANCONNECT Anti-Theft Features The new NissanConnect unit has an anti-theft feature (Immobilizer via CAN). New audio units will be delivered to the dealers in the NEW state, i.e. ready to be linked with the vehicle. In case of an audio unit being linked with the vehicle s immobilizer system, disconnection of the link between the audio unit and the IMMU will cause the audio unit to switch into secure mode in which the audio unit is fully inoperative For locked units (Red, Yellow or Green Secure), it is possible to allow 15 minutes usage in a test mode where the unit will be operative. This can be activated by pressing SETUP button. If a locked unit is fitted to a vehicle, a key-reteach procedure using Consult 3+ is needed to be performed. This will teach the unit to the vehicle it is fitted. All of the customer s keys are required for this procedure. Unit configuration The new NissanConnect system is configurable to vehicle specification. When the part is fitted at the factory, key features for the vehicle are activated by use of the configuration. These include, depending on vehicle specification: o Around View Monitor o Blind Spot Monitor o Rear View Camera and screen guidelines o Traffic Sign Recognition o Applications (Facebook, Online Search (Including Send to Car), Twitter, Eurosport, etc) o Available Language Selection o Audio parameters o Unit CAN communication to Combination Meter All service parts are delivered to dealers in a default configuration. This can be checked by using the service test menu under VERSION This will match the last five digits of the part number that is printed on the serial label on the top of the unit, and the original equipment part number in WEBFAST.

Ensure both pages are completed where appropriate This figure is illustrative ONLY (example for Qashqai [J11]) o Once a unit has been configured using Consult 3+, the New NissanConnect unit must be allowed to shut down completely (typically 3 minutes after the unit has been turned off by the car typically ignition off or driver s door opened) in order to save the configuration to the head unit. A common concern from vehicles where the New NissanConnect unit has been replaced, and the unit has not been configured is when the customer attempts to use Around View Monitor o The Around View Monitor control unit requires a command from the new NissanConnect unit in order to send video to the new NissanConnect Unit. o This can result in a blank picture with guide lines shown, or with the guidelines overlapping the image from the around view monitor image

Please ensure that you capture as much information as possible, accurately detailing the concern from the customer. Where possible, ask the customer to demonstrate the concern to you, and take videos detailing the concern while the vehicle is at the dealership. DO NOT ASK THE CUSTOMER TO TAKE A VIDEO OF THE CONCERN WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING. All videos should be taken in accordance with local laws and regulation, and by a passenger not driving. Key information from the customer in diagnosing and reporting concerns: When concern occurs, for example: o Permanently o Intermittently o Once per week o After startup o In cold weather o While driving o On rough roads What are the conditions when the concern occurs, for example o When playing music from ipod o When listening to DAB radio o When listening to FM radio o When listening to CDs o When making a phone call o When changing song from Steering Wheel Switches Customer phone information, including o Make o Model o Current software version o Examples: iphone 5C, ios 8.1 Samsung Galaxy S4, Android 4.2.2

5 The following recommended tests have been developed to enable you to determine the correct repair action. FUNCTION REPORTED CONCERN RECOMMENDED TEST Unit System is not switching on Check Power Supply Check audio fuses. Check harness connectors are inserted properly and harness is not damaged. Try the unit in other vehicle if possible. Intermittent cut, power cycle, etc Record customer description when the issue happens in order to be able to replicate the concern. o For example, under acceleration, during Stop/Start system restart Measure voltage supply and check trace with an oscilloscope if possible with the engine working. Ensure not big spikes (oscilloscope) or abnormal supply. The unit has protection for under/over voltage conditions. The unit will switch off in case the conditions are met. Sound Radio Hands free Unit not respond to buttons and/or touch screen Display concerns Buttons stuck, external front cover damage, etc. No sound from all/some speakers Sound not clear Poor/No radio reception (FM/AM) Poor/No radio reception (DAB) Not able to pair a phone Check if the touch screen is clean and free of debris Use the screen calibration option under the User Configuration menu Use the display test mode within the System State menu in the service test mode. Rotate the ENTER dial to view the different test screens. Check if there is any sign of mechanical stress, liquid, etc on the front cover. Inadequate use by the customer is not a warrantable claim. Check sound settings Bass, Treble, Fader & balance in (Setup > audio) menu. Play CD and check all speakers are functioning. If not check speakers and harness connections. Check if vehicle is equipped with separate amplifier. If yes, check Amplifier and wiring. If possible, check the unit in other vehicle. Check sound settings Bass, Treble, Fader & balance in (Setup > audio) menu. Play CD and check all speakers are functioning. If not check speakers and harness connections. Perform Speaker tests in Service Menu Check antenna connection status in the diagnosis screen. If NOT reported OK, follow service manual procedure to check the aerial. Diagnose the reception level and quality by using FM/AM Signal Monitor, within the service menu Radio. The values for Multipath/Quality/ Neighbor channel/ RDS have to be small in order to having a good reception, Having a sufficient Stereo quality signal the signal strength has to be > 36dBμV. Compare with another vehicle. Check also for potential contamination within the antenna stick thread as well as correct grounding. Ensure that vehicle is operated in a DAB Coverage area. DAB functionality is fitted to vehicles sold in some areas without DAB coverage Diagnose the reception level and quality by using DAB Signal Monitor, within the service menu Radio. Compare these values with another vehicle DAB reception can be affected by weather conditions, particularly during hot weather, confirm with customer when they experienced concerns Check also for potential contamination within the antenna stick thread as well as correct grounding. Record the customer phone model and software version. Check the Bluetooth is set ON. Check in the Service Test Mode the Bluetooth module is OK. Remove all the phones saved in the unit [pair list] (the unit can store up to 5 phones). Reset (Turn off on) the bluetooth. Pair a known compatible phone. If not able to reproduce the concern with a known compatible phone, not New NissanConnect issue.

6 Navigation Multimedia Rear camera Unit doesn t sync agenda Unit doesn t accept/reject a call Media player: Not able to stream music; some of the buttons don t work (play, pause, fwd, etc); inconsistent connectivity, etc. Sometimes the phone disconnects or doesn t reconnect at start-up. Incoming calls can be heard but the outgoing voice cannot be heard. Poor GPS reception or localization problem. Map issue Issues playing digital audio formats USB/AUX not working No function Around View Monitor No function Record customer phone model and software version. Not all the phones are compatible with this feature. Check with other known OK phone. If Ok, not New NissanConnect issue. Record customer phone model and software version. Test a known compatible phone. Usually this issue is related with the phone. If not able to reproduce the concern with a known compatible phone, not New NissanConnect issue. When a phone is paired, the audio streaming profile may not have been set up correctly, delete the paired phone on the New NissanConnect unit, and re-pair Record customer phone model and software version. Not all the phones are compatible with this feature. Test a known compatible phone. Usually this issue is related with the phone. If not able to reproduce the concern with a known compatible phone, not New NissanConnect issue. Enable "automatic connection" or "auto-connection. Allows connection in the phone. With this permanent authorization typical mobile phone and head unit are quite familiar together. Turn the phone off and on again. Try to connect again by turning the ignition off and on. Sometimes the phone s internal software will lock-up and periodically will need to be reset. Pair with another mobile phone and check if the issue is still valid. Check the microphone current in the Service Manual Service (around 2000+/-800). Check antenna connection status in the diagnosis screen. If NOT reported Connected, procedure to check the aerial. Test the reception in an open sky away from any tall buildings. Turn the vehicle facing different directions to ensure that no part of the car is obscuring satellites visible in the current area. Compare if possible with other vehicle available at the same location the number of satellites tracked from the diagnosis menu. Check the unit is not in Demo Mode. Use the option system state within the service menu. The Satellite tracked value has to be minimum 4 in order receiving a 3D_Fix signal. Confirm GPS antenna cable is not kinked/trapped by any parts in the cockpit module. For intermittent concerns (inaccurate guidance etc.), when the concern is present during guidance, press Menu on the map and press Actual Position. All three 3D values have to be displayed, if not the reception is not sufficient to calculate a 3D position. Check the unit with another SD card. The SD cards from Nissan Connect 1 and Nissan Connect 2 are NOT compatible with New NissanConnect. Test a known CD/pen drive which has been tested in other unit previously. If not able to reproduce the concern, not New NissanConnect issue. Not all the digital audio formats are compatible with the unit. Check USB/Aux harness. Try the unit in other vehicle if possible to check is not a harness issue. Check if the correct part number is fitted to the vehicle because some variants may not support it. Engage reverse and check if the display shows guidelines and blue screen. If Yes, check camera harness and video signal, not Nissan Connect issue. Ensure new NissanConnect unit is configured for Around View Monitor Ensure all harness connectors to Around View Monitor control unit are attached Around View Monitor will not display above 10 kmh / 6mph for safety reasons. Ensure reverse switch signal is present using data monitor function in Consult 3+

Where a clear benefit for customers will be seen in order to resolve specific market concerns, and at Nissan Europe s discretion, Nissan Europe may decide to make the new updated software available

7 No Camera image for one or more cameras Confirm camera harness connection to around view monitor control unit Confirm camera image calibration using Consult 3+ 6) NEW NISSANCONNECT SOFTWARE UPDATES On a regular basis, Nissan Europe will release new software for the New NissanConnect to production as part of normal ongoing business. Where a clear benefit for customers will be seen in order to resolve specific market concerns, and at Nissan Europe s discretion, Nissan Europe may decide to make the new updated software available via N-FIT. Unless a clear instruction has been released via Nissan Europe, software updates should be performed on a customer complaint basis only. Under no circumstances should an update to the New Nissan Connect be performed in order to provide up-to-date software where no concern has been reported. Identifying Software Version Software version is displayed on the Version screen in the service test mode Software version highlighted in Version screen When Update System Software is selected, and USB storage device with updated software is connected, the current system software version and the version on the USB storage device is displayed Current System Software and USB Storage Device Software Comparison Each software release has a creation date attached, in the format YYMMDD (highlighted above). Newer versions of software have a later date time attached. In the example above, the USB Storage Device Software, was created on 5 November 2014, which is later than the current system software creation date (6 August 2014). Therefore the USB storage device software is a later version than the currently installed software.

8 Customer concerns to be resolved with D205 software updates The following concerns have been identified on a small number of vehicles with DAB functionality included, and can be resolved by applying software version D205 or later where an earlier version of software has been fitted. CONCERN Intermittent audio mute Partially frozen screen Unit self-restarting DAB list may not populate KEY SYMPTOMS When listening in all audio modes (FM, AM, DAB, USB, AUX, Bluetooth, CD), the sound may periodically mute. This is an intermittent condition and the sound will return. The touchscreen may appear to be slow to respond, and will respond to screen presses shortly after being pressed. If only the FM/AM radio preset buttons do not respond at all, please contact your RBU for further information as D205 software will not resolve this concern. Unit will suddenly turn off, and will display the Nissan logo. The unit will then resume previous function. This may result in loss of navigation position for a short period time, loss of active route, and or loss of settings saved since last IGN-ON. DAB station list may appear empty, or include stations that are not set as presets and not broadcast in local area. i.e. if the customer has travelled on a long journey, the unit may retain DAB stations from regions/countries the customer has travelled to or through. D205 software is available via N-FIT, and is marked as shown below with the date 20 October Nissan Europe may release future software updates via N-FIT in place of D205. If a later version of software is available, then this later version should be used. D205 software label in N-FIT 7) VEHICLES FITTED WITH EARLIER LEVELS OF SOFTWARE TO D205 AND POTENTIALLY AFFECTED BY ABOVE CONCERNS From VIN To VIN QASHQAI (J11) SJNF**J11U JUKE (F15) SJNF**F15U PULSAR (C13) VSKD**C13U JN1TAAT32U JN1TANT32U JN1TBNT32U X-TRAIL (T32) JN1TCAT32U JN1TCNT32U JN1JCAT32U JN1JCNT32U Models not listed above are fitted with D205 software or later, or do not have the DAB functionality related to the concern installed. Vehicles built for Russia and Turkey markets are not produced with DAB functionality, and therefore are not affected by the above concerns.

Future models not listed here may have a new NissanConnect unit fitted. 9) SERVICE PROCEDURE Dealers should follow diagnosis steps provided within this bulletin in order to determine an appropriate and effective repair to a reported customer concern. If as the result of a customer concern, a warrantable repair is required following dealer diagnosis, please provide as much information as possible during the warranty process. This is regardless of whether the repair taken is reprogramming, replacement or any other warrantable action. This includes, where required, accurate completion of the NissanConnect questionnaire in enews. Key information collected during the diagnostic procedure is extremely helpful, such as tests performed, description of the issue, software version installed, customer s phone and software version, etc. Customer verbatim of the concern and videos of the concern will also help accurately communicate the concern to Nissan Europe in order to improve the quality of the New NissanConnect system. 10) CLAIMING CONDITIONS For warrantable concerns, which have been diagnoses by following this bulletin and the appropriate sections of the ESM, normal claim coding applies, using WEBFAST and the FRS system. This document is only a guideline, always use latest ESM and information available for Nissan Connect unit Unless specified otherwise, the information in this bulletin should not be interpreted as the basis for warranty claims
