UPnP explained Naim streaming devices use the networking protocol UPnP (Universal Plug n Play) to communicate, which lets them easily locate media on your network and for them to work with UPnP players. The exceptions are the HDX and UnitiServe, which also use SMB network share scanning to look for media files stored on any device, including non-upnp ones, making them available for local playback.
