1 XpertRule Knowledge Builder Introduction to the Demonstration Software (Release 4.66) Thank you for your interest in a demonstration of the XpertRule Knowledge Builder software. XpertRule Knowledge Builder is Attar Software s flagship product and it provides a core component for its enterprise knowledge-based software solutions. This demo copy (Release 4.66) is a restricted version in that it provides a subset of the full product s features and it limits the creation of objects in a knowledge base. The demo copy is primarily designed to give you a flavour of how easy and intuitive it is for knowledge experts to capture their own know-how to build solutions to complex problems, in a short period of time, using XpertRule Knowledge Builder. To evaluate a full up-to-date copy of the tool please contact Attar Software. 1

2 Effective Utilisation of this Demo Use the Knowledge Builder help Browse the Samples provided Build the Expenses Tutorial provided Build your own simple application To make the most of this demo, we suggest that you consider the following tasks: Use the Knowledge Builder help to gain a broad overview of the technology and its main features. Use the Developer software to browse the samples provided to gain an insight into how applications are constructed in Knowledge Builder. Use the Developer software to build the Expenses tutorial to gain first hand experience in how to easily and rapidly develop knowledge-based applications. With the insight and experience gained above, why not try building your own small application (keeping in mind the size limitation of the demo version). 2

To gain an insight into the power of the Knowledge Builder environment, we suggest that you start by reading the Knowledge Builder Overview section, followed by the Quick Tour section of the Knowledge Builder Help file. You may also decide to read some of the other Help topics to find out more about your areas of interest. These help files are not an up-to-date version of the Knowledge Builder help, and should only be referred to for the purpose of using this demo software. An up-to-date version of the help can be obtained by contacting Attar Software. 3

You can also open the samples which are designed to highlight a wide range of features. You can also run any of the sample applications from within the developer program to demonstrate how easy it is to prototype a knowledge-based application and test it before deployment. 4

5 Build the Expenses Tutorial Step-by-step instructions see Knowledge Builder Tutorial Help Demonstrates a core selection of features Illustrates a rapid development methodology The Expenses application is one of the pre-supplied samples, but as a way of experiencing the power of the development environment first hand, step-by-step instructions for building this small application, from scratch, are provided in the Knowledge Builder Tutorial help. This Expenses tutorial (Exercise 1 of the tutorial help) is designed to give you a feel for the Rapid Application Development paradigm of the Knowledge Builder development environment using a selection of core features. Knowledge Builder capabilities are by no means limited to these features nor to building this particular type of knowledge based application (an underwriting type of application). The size of the Expenses application is within the limits imposed in the Demo version for building new applications. 5

6 Beyond this demo: Other types of applications Configuration Constraints, Hierarchy esupport Natural Language Processing, Look-ahead inference elearning Concept Maps, Natural Language Processing To help paint the wider picture, this presentation will also provide a brief insight into the other types of knowledge based applications which require additional technologies not covered by this limited demo version of Knowledge Builder. Configuration Applications are about the capture of customer requirements and their use to derive a complete product description (feature and options). Products can be physical items, such as a piece of hardware or logical items such as a specialist insurance product and its documentation. This type of application requires two additional knowledge representation and inferences, namely Constraints and Hierarchy. esupport is about providing technical customer support through multiple e-channels (Web, , Chat, etc). For example, problem diagnosis and troubleshooting in a call centre or as a self service website. This type of application may require additional technologies such as Natural Language Processing and a special Look-ahead decision tree inference. elearning is about identifying people s skill-gaps and delivering training and educational content to fill this gap. This type of application requires an additional knowledge representation, namely Concept Maps and can often benefit from Natural Language Processing. 6

The various Knowledge Builder deployment options are designed to provide performance and scalability as well as coverage by the widest range of hardware/os platforms. Its components are designed to fit in within any software architecture.
