1 Placement Matrices for Math, English, ESL Based on the MMAP Phase II Rule Set This document summarizes the placement recommendations detailed in the Phase decision rules publication. As described in that document, there are two sets of rules for each subject area: One set of rules is based on "direct matriculants" (DM), which are students who begin matriculation processes before their complete high school transcript is available, for this reason their placement criteria were developed using data up through th grade ( th grade data not available). The other set of rules is based on "non-direct matriculants" (NDM), for whom a complete high school transcript is available (including th grade data). Following this pattern, this document contains two matrices for each subject area. However, based on feedback from pilot colleges, the choice of the DM NDM nomenclature does not convey the fact that the MMAP placement of a student is based solely on data availability not on when a student applied. For instance, if a student waited a year to enroll in college but only th grade data is available in Cal-PASS Plus, that student would be considered a DM due to data availability. Similarly, a student who directly applies to college after high school but has th grade data (e.g. self-reported or manual placement via transcripts) would be considered a NDM. To limit this confusion, we refer to the tables as follows: Direct Matriculant (Up through th grade transcript available) Non-Direct Matriculant (Up through th grade transcript available)
