Instructions are included in that file. Practice As You Would Recover with CSM Practice Volumes Issue the Flash command to back up your remote site and automatically restart replication so that you can practice while maintaining DR capabilities Protect Your Data Warning Prompts User Roles Site Awareness Dynamic Images Event and Threshold Alerts 5
Support for exporting and syncing certificates for remote connections When CSM is installed on a system, a certificate is created that can be used by external API callers. When a customer sets up a DS8000 system to use CSM for remote LDAP authentication, a customer needs the certificate created by the CSM server in order for the DS8000 to connect. To make it easy for customers, on the Advanced Tools panel in the CSM GUI, there is now an Export Truststore for Remote Connections button that will export the certificate for a customer to upload to the DS8000 To support redundant remote LDAP authentication server, a customer might want to use multiple CSM servers. Since each server creates a unique certificate at install, CSM has provided a way to sync that certificate across multiple CSM servers On the Advanced Tools panel in the CSM GUI, there is a Synchronize Truststore File with Another Server button. This will sync the certificate with another server allowing a DS8000 to use both servers for redundancy
Support to download Global Mirror statistics CSV file via remote CLI connect Some customers have requested the ability to offload the global mirror statistics CSV file remotely, so that they could schedule it on a regular basis via the CSMCLI. The CSMCLI command exportgmdata exists on previous versions of CSM, however, it would only create the CSV file on the CSM server. A customer would have to go to the CSM server and download offload the file manually. This is not an option for CSM installations on DS8000 HMCs. In CSM 6.2.0, a customer can now specify the dir parm on the exportgmdata cli command. When specified the command will not only create a csv file, but will download the file to the directory specified by the -dir parm. csmcli> exportgmdata -rpohistory -rpo_start rpo_end rolepair H1-J3 -dir /Users/myuser/CSM/ 8k-MM-GM IWNR1284I [Jul 10, :37:58 PM] The data for session 8k-MM-GM was retrieved. IWNC7782I [Jul 10, :37:58 PM] The CSV file is located at: /Users/myuser/CSM/8k-MM-GMH1- J3rpo csv
Ability to edit the port pairing CSV file via the CSM GUI To better manage replication paths on the DS8000, CSM allows customers to update a csv file that defines which port pairs to use. In previous releases, the port pairing csv file had to be edited on the operating system CSM was installed on, however, this could not be done when CSM was installed on a DS8000 HMC In CSM 6.2.0, the port pairing CSV file can now be edited directly on the CSM GUI by clicking Paths- >DS8000 Port Pairing CSV from the Navigator
Ability to edit the server properties file from within the Copy Services Manager GUI Customers can now modify the rmserver.properties file from the CSM GUI Click on Settings->Server Properties in the Navigator to view and edit the properties file This allows customer running on the HMC to easily edit and view the current settings As soon as the properties are saved, the CSM cache is updated and the property is in use
Scheduling Commands and Actions against sessions The built in scheduler has been enhanced to support ALL session types and commands The scheduler now allows the ability to specify multiple actions within the same scheduled task New action added for Wait for State to cause the task to wait until a session reaches the given state before moving to the next action
New Global Mirror Either Direction Session Type The CSM release introduces a new session type that allows for Global Mirror in both directions, without a practice volume at either site. The session type supports full failover/failback capabilities without a full copy, and allows an asynchronous, consistent copy to run from either site.
User Defined Group Name Some customers manage hundreds of sessions in their environment If a naming convention is used it could be difficult to find the session you are looking for, particularly if it belongs to a set of sessions that have something in common, such as a common set of host systems CSM now allows a user to define a group name to a session by clicking Session Actions-> Set User Defined Group Name A user defined group name can be entered into the filter of the CSM session overview panel making it easier to find the sessions you are looking for
Customizable Tables The ability to hide/unhide columns on the session overview table If there is a particular column that is not useful, a customer can now hide it so that only the key values are displayed Persistence of all table customizations in the CSM GUI The session overview table allows customers to filter, move columns, sort columns, hide/unhide columns, etc In this release, all customizations are now persisted for a given user across logins into the same browser.
View HyperSwap Status The HyperSwap column will display Blank if a session is not configured for HyperSwap No if a session is configured for HyperSwap but a configuration is not loaded Yes if a session is configured for HyperSwap and a configuration is loaded Disabled if a session is configured for HyperSwap and a configuration is loaded, but HyperSwap is disabled The Hardened Freeze column will display Blank if a session is not configured for Hardened Freeze No if a session is configured for Hardened Freeze but a configuration is not loaded Yes if a session is configured for Hardened Freeze and a configuration is loaded The Active Site Name will display the current Site Name for the Site that is considered the Production site in CSM
RPO and Progress Reporting Allows customers to view session progress and RPO for ALL sessions on the Session Overview panel Track and monitor the progress across multiple sessions at the same time Track and monitor Global Mirror RPO across more than one session at a time
Remove Copy Set Performance and GUI Enhancements Faster removal of Copy Sets from active sessions In CSM the remove copy set wizard now presents a table that allows for CNTRLclick and SHIFT-click selection, as well as the ability to filter for specific volumes In addition the wizard allows a customer to delete the copysets via a CSV file. NOTE: The CSV file can be the same CSV file used in the add copy set wizard.
Restore DS8000 and Storwize FlashCopy Sessions Added support to issue a Restore command for FlashCopy sessions The Restore option will reverse the direction of the FlashCopy so that the data on the original primary is replaced with the data on the target The Restore option is only available on Persistent Relationships
Support to create DS8000 System Diagnostics from CSM CLI or GUI There are times when managing CSM session when hardware errors occur and diagnostic information is required from the Storage System as well as CSM. With CSM 6.2.1, from the Storage Systems panel within the CSM GUI, you can now select a DS8000 Storage system and from the Action menu select Create System Diagnostics to automatically start the data collection without having to go to the DS8000 interface. Customers can issue both an On Demand Dump (default), as well as a Warmstart. The warmstart command does provide and extra prompt to warn a customer before issuing the command.
New Space Management methods for session using DS8000 Global Mirror Reflash After Recover option added to remaining GM sessions When Reflash After Recover is set, after a Recover is issued to a session, CSM will automatically reflash to the journal volume to save the consistency group If a customer, needs to minimize space usage, they can choose to uncheck the Reflash After Recover and the reflash will not be issued. NOTE: In the event of a failure during resync, a customer could lose their last consistent point if they do this New Free Journal Space command When using Space Efficient volumes on the Global Mirror journals, after restarting the session there is a risk that the number of updates to the primary while Global Mirror was suspended, could cause the backend space to fill. In a Suspended or Target Available state, a customer can now issue the Free Journal Space command and CSM will terminate the FC relationships to the journal. NOTE: Issuing this would remove the last known consistency point for the session, and should only be used if cleanup is necessary
Customizable GUI Language Settings From the Advanced Tools panel customize the GUI language Allows customers to set the GUI language to something other than the system language Language setting is persisted for each user logged into the same system from the same browser Multiple users can manage CSM with different languages from the same browser
Easy Tier Heat Map Transfer for CSM Sessions Now two different options when enabling Easy Tier Heat Map Transfer This release adds the ability to enable the transfer for all CSM session configurations When transfer is enabled for session configurations, transfer is done to all host volumes defined in the session allowing for correctly transferring the data to practice volumes in CSM practice sessions
How can CSM help you manage 200+ GM sessions? DS8000 storage systems have a limit on the number of GM Master sessions (32) per storage system CSM expands the hardware limitation allowing customers to individually managed 200+ GM sessions on a single system By sharing hardware Master sessions, CSM can simulate individual session management CSM performs the necessary dynamic consistency reconfigurations for all normal session actions like Suspend/Recover/Flash
How do you setup for 200+ sessions? All CSM sessions that support DS8000 GM have a new Consistency Group field for GM Role Pairs Specify the Hardware Master session ID to use for the GM role pairs in the session (ex. H1-J2) Specify the same Hardware Master session ID on other sessions under the same CSM server using the same DS8000 Repeat by splitting the 200+ CSM sessions across 32 different sessions ids (as to not exceed the hardware maximum)
Why do you need to HyperSwap across sessions? Customers may want all of the volumes in their environment to be highly available locally but only a subset of those volumes may need to be replicated to a remote site CSM allows sessions of different types (ex. MM and MT MM-GM) to enable HyperSwap even if the volumes in the session are used in the same sysplex. When a HyperSwap occurs by command or event, all sessions will consistently swap
How to setup multiple sessions for HyperSwap All CSM sessions that support DS8000 MM have a new Consistency Group field for MM role pairs Specify a name (12 char string) to use for the MM role pairs in the session (ex. H1-H2) Specify the same name on other sessions under the same CSM server managing volumes attached to the same sysplex When all pairs across all sessions using the same name go Prepared, a single load will be issued loading all MM pairs across all sessions to IOS enabling HyperSwap
