The Dell PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure offers superior capacity in a 1U form factor. The PowerVault 112T holds up to 320GB of compressed data in a 1U enclosure. The dual drive design can hold up to (2) half height DDS4 or (2) DLT VS80 or (2) DLT VS160 tape drives. As an extension to the PowerVault line of tape backup products, the PowerVault 112T allows Dell customers to configure tape drives outside of the server while still incorporating a space-optimized rack backup solution. The PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure has two SCSI ports that enable both drives to run in parallel, reducing the backup time for multiple server environments. 2 Background In the server marketplace, space is becoming more critical as servers become denser and utilize more power. Due to the increased demand for rack-optimized servers, tape drives are more commonly being configured external to the server. Not only is there forecasted growth in the rackoptimized server market, there is also an expected increase in demand for rack-optimized tape storage solutions. Designing and implementing easy to use rack solutions is now a requirement for many server customers. However, the solutions must improve manageability, be cost effective, and rapidly deployable. The PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure meets all of these requirements. Now that DDS and DLT VS technologies are available in a half-height form factor, smaller rack solutions are possible. The PowerVault 112T is an industry-leading 1U linear tape array that incorporates DLT technology and holds up to 320GB of compressed data. Product Description The PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure is a 1U tape array that can hold up to (2) DDS4 drives, (2) DLT VS80 drives, or (2) DLT VS160 drives. It was designed for ease of use, ease of configuration, and ease of field service. The top of the unit is removable and allows easy access to the drives and components. The PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure has two half-height drive bays, two SCSI cables, a power supply and fans. All components, including the drives, can be serviced without the use of tools. The PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure has two status LEDs on the front bezel. The green power LED indicates that the unit is powered on correctly. The amber fan LED illuminates when the system detects a fan failure. Compatible with the entire Dell rail kits (rapid rail, versa rail and 2-post) the PowerVault 112T allows customers to incorporate a rack-optimized backup solution with their rack servers or rack NAS servers. Performance The maximum transfer rate of the PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 drive is 8.0MB/s (or 16.0MB/s compressed). This translates into a native sustained backup rate of 28.8GB/hr. Two SCSI ports enable both drives to run in parallel, reducing the backup time for multiple server environments. Capacity Utilizing the 160GB of compressed capacity in the DLT VS160 tape drive, the PowerVault 112T tape tack enclosure holds up to 320GB compressed capacity with both drives configured. Reliability The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 tape drive boasts a demonstrated 250,000 hrs MTBF and 30,000 hrs of head life. The patented TapeSense Circuitry design is used to prevent swallowing the leader failures that can occur with other DLT technology.
