The Storwize family includes technologies to complement and enhance virtual environments to deliver a simpler, more scalable and cost-efficient IT infrastructure. The Storwize family is adding an all-flash, LFF, high-density expansion enclosure, Model A9F, that is attachable to Storwize V7000F and Storwize V5030F control enclosures. This model meets the demand for higher speed storage in a smaller footprint. All-flash arrays provide higher IOPS and bandwidth with lower power and total cost of ownership than hybrid or HDD-based solutions. Key prerequisites High-density expansion enclosure Model A9F requires IBM Spectrum Virtualize Software V7.8, or later, for operation. Use of the software is entitled through the acquisition of IBM Spectrum Virtualize software licenses. Description IBM Storwize All-flash LFF High Density Expansion Enclosure Model A9F is the hardware component of the virtualized, software-defined Storwize family. It is designed to increase storage density and capacity of all-flash Storwize systems in a cost-efficient way, while maintaining its highly flexible and intuitive characteristics. It is supported on Storwize V5030F and V7000F systems. Model A9F has been designed to increase the storage density of new and existing Storwize V5030F and V7000F deployments. Expanding the set of expansion enclosures available for all-flash Storwize products, the 12 Gbps SAS Model A9F supports up to ninety-two 3.5-inch (LFF) top-loading flash drives and 1.4 PB of storage in a single 5U enclosure. Leveraging and supporting the rich set of functional capabilities delivered by IBM Spectrum Virtualize software and aligning to the Storwize design of supporting a complete range of data storage requirements, Model A9F supports a complete range of 3.5-inch flash drives to easily increase storage capacity and density in a flexible and affordable manner. The available flash drives come in the following capacities: 1.6 TB 1.92 TB 3.2 TB 3.84 TB 7.68 TB TB Only all-flash expansion enclosure models A9F and AFF can be intermixed within an all-flash Storwize system. Attachment limits of All-flash High Density Expansion Enclosure Model A9F include: Storwize V5030F control enclosure models support attachment of up to eight high-density expansion enclosures, up to 760 drives 1 per control enclosure, and up to 1,056 1 per clustered system. Storwize V7000F control enclosure models support attachment of up to eight high-density expansion enclosures, up to 760 drives 1 per control enclosure, and up to 3,040 1 drives per clustered system. 1 maximum limits are drive slots. Model A9F can be intermixed with Model AFF. Refer to the Limitations section for additional information. It is a customer responsibility to review the NEBS and ETSI test results documents to determine the testing performed on the models and features meet their requirements. Logical configuration planning and application Logical configuration planning is a customer responsibility. Application of the initial logical configuration and all subsequent modifications to the logical configuration is a customer responsibility. You are responsible for downloading or obtaining from IBM, and installing designated Machine Code (microcode, basic input/output system code (called BIOS), utility programs, device drivers, and diagnostics delivered with an IBM machine) and other software updates in a timely manner from an IBM internet website or from other electronic media, and following the instructions that IBM provides. You may request IBM to install Machine Code changes; however, you may be charged for that service. Cable orders As a convenience, a limited selection of cables can be ordered with the high-density expansion enclosure. Refer to the Product number section for feature numbers. Cables and installation services are also available from IBM Network Integration and Deployment Services, an IBM Global Services offering. Cables are required to connect an expansion enclosure to the storage engine. This requires a 12 Gbps mini-sas HD 4x cable terminated with SFF-8644 connectors. Replacement parts are shipped to your location for you to install. IBM will use commercially reasonable delivery methods to ship the replacement part for NBD delivery. Advanced Part Exchange warranty service is not available in all countries. You must be approved and registered to use this service. Non-IBM parts service IBM is now shipping machines with selected non-ibm parts that contain an IBM field replaceable unit (FRU) part number label. These parts are to be serviced during the IBM machine warranty period. International Warranty Service International Warranty Service allows you to relocate any machine that is eligible for International Warranty Service and receive continued warranty service in any country where the IBM machine is serviced. If you move your machine to a different country, you are required to report the machine information to your Business Partner or IBM representative. The warranty service type and the service level provided in the servicing country may be different from that provided in the country in which the machine was purchased.
